  • Cannot backup iPhone 3GS. Error Message: iTunes could not backup iPhone because iPhone Disconnected. What is the fix for this problem?

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me find a solution to my problem.
When a backup is attempted, it starts off as if it's working, then stops and the following error message appears: "iTunes could not backup iPhone because the iPhone disconnected". But, the iPhone doesn't really disconnect! It must be some type of internal glitch.
The iPhone is a 3GS and I have mostly pictures and contacts, two songs, a total of 33 apps. The iOS is updated (6.1.6). I do not know if this phone was ever jailbroke. I have been able to backup this phone before, but cannot now. The last backup was 9/21/13, it is now 3/2/14.
Sorry if there is too much info, or not the correct info to find a solution!
Also, I must say that although I am not a tekkie, I've seen many different types of various programs and I find that iTunes is not very intuitive...don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, just my humble opinion.
    Thank You,
    Camp917

    Hey Lawrence,
A big THANK YOU!! to you! Your suggestions worked!
Before I changed USB ports (more on that in a sec...), I employed one of your suggestions that you gave to someone else with the same problem...and that was to clean the connector on the bottom of the phone with a soft dry tooth brush. I couldn't believe the amount of lint that came out! Especially what was found in either end...had to do some very careful picking. (Almost enough lint to knit a small sweater!!)
Changing the USB port was the second and final step required for a successful backup. My computer is a laptop, and I did have a USB Bluetooth adapter (for another device) installed. I removed  the adapter, plugged the iPhone into that USB port, crossed my fingers...and it worked!!!
Now if I can figure out the rest of this darn program, I might upgrade to a new iPhone!
Again, thank you very much Lawrence!

  • HT1386 iPhone 4S and iPhone 3G Syncing Error with iTunes

I am trying to back up my iPhone 3G so that I can import the new information to my iPhone4S. Every time I try to plug it into my new computer it tells me I need iTunes 64-bit. When I uninstall and reinstall iTunes 64-bit it still doesn't work.
I am trying to use both my new and old computer and am still not able to seem to get it to work. When I plug the iPhone 3G into the old computer I also get an error.
Argh. I also just tried syncing my new iPhone and it reads the same error message about re-installing iTunes 64 bit. I have re-installed at least 5 times already.
Please let me know any advice or suggestions that you may have.
    Thanks!

    Hi Macafreak,
I'd like to see if unchecking the "Sync Music" box, applying the changes, and then re-checking the box resolves this issue:

  • IPhone update apps error on iTunes

I have had my iPhone for years and I recently had to buy a new desktop computer.  When I hook the iphone to my computer and open the itunes store and try to update all my apps I get the following error.  Can someone PLEASE help me?  I want to update my phone and can't until my apps are updated.  Thank you!

Launch iTunes on the new computer.
From the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer
    Now try updating your iPhone.
You can update your apps directly from the iPhone..
If you see a small red "badge" on the App Store icon with a number, just tap the icon to install those updates.
But you do need to "authorize" the new computer regardless.

This completly helped me from the start of it. Thank you soooooooooooooooo muuuuuuuuuuuch Jasmin!!!!!!!

The apple id/email has nothing to do with the backup.
    Start from the begining.
    What is the problem?
    Any errors?
What have you done to try to resolve the issue?

  • After restoring, iPhone 2G says "Connect to itunes"

    still rocking first gen iphone!
On syncs it would say, back ups failed. Regardless, it would still allow me to sync. So i decided to restore to see if i can fix the backup errors. ITunes restored the device to iOS 3.1.3.
ITunes sees it and looks like it is syncing but then i get 2 errors, unable to backup, unable to sync. Phone just says "Connect to iTunes".
    is it toast?

Did you try to remove the latest backup from the list in iTunes/Settings/Devices if you're on a Mac or iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices in Windows?
Make sure to copy the backup folder to a safe place before you start, it is located here:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

It's likely that your backup is corrupt. Try deleting the backup, then right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "back up". To delete go to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab. Highlight and delete the most recent backup. Note that sometimes deleting this way leaves some garbage around that can still interfere with a new backup, so you should verify that the backup folder is empty.

The folder where your backup data are stored varies depending on the computer's operating system.   Make sure the backup folder is included in your periodic data-backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac:  ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP:  \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7:  \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.

  • I am getting error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone".  I have deleted the backup and restarted my computer, but continue to get this error message.  What do I need to do now?

I have recently updated my phone and am attempting to sync it.  I got the error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone".  I deleted the backup, restarted my computer, and even restored the iPhone, but continue to get the same error message.  What do I need to do now?

iTunes places the iPhone backup in the following location. Navigate there & delete everything in the backup folder, but not the folder itself. You will have to turn on "Show All Hidden Files & Folders" to see it:
    Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • I deleted the backup on itunes, synced again and got the error message: itunes could not back up the iphone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone

I am using iphone 3GS, after syncing for few times and got the errors. I deleted the backup from Edit-> Preferences-> Devices. Then I synced again,  there was an error message: itunes could not back up the iphone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. What can I do? I have no backup anymore on ituens.

I closed iTunes & manually deleted the file which was still stored locally even though it didn't display in Preferences.  I have vista so I went to
C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync and deleted everything in the Backup folder (though I left the folder as is).  If you have a different OS search the apple website for the backup location.
I reopened iTunes & Synced with out a problem.  I also got the update to install.
    Good luck.

I have an iPhone with iOS 7.1.1 and am trying to update to 7.1.2, but get an error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone"

Assuming you are using the current version of iTunes (11,2,2), open iTunes, click "Preferences" under the leftmost entry on iTunes' menu, then choose "Devices".
Find the iPhone's backup there, highlight it, and choose "Delete Backup".
