The software is likely for the built-in webcam. The monitor/screen portion of the w244hc would NOT need drivers unless it had some funky non-standard amount of pixels. But the monitor is a standard 1920x1200 which the Mac should detect if you're using the HDMI or DVI connector.

Are you using the VGA connector? VGA, being an analog signal is more likely to cause the symptoms you describe (compared to the digital signals DVI or HDMI.) Often reseating the VGA connector can help. (IOW, push the VGA connector in harder...on BOTH ends of the cable.) But VGA would also be more susceptable to signal degradation with anything greater than 1600 pixels. So if you are using the VGA connector, get the appropriate DVI adapter for your Macbook Pro as soon as you can. -

I would guess that the HDMI port on your mac is for output only - no input, and that's what your'e attempting to do when you attach the mac to your xbox. I looked in Mactracker and it lists the HDMI port as video output for both the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the 15" Retina MacBook Pro (your post didn't say which one you have), so looks like that is the issue..

Hiya, Im thinking of buying my first ipod the Ipod Touch 32gb model. Will I be able to transfer the music I currently have stored in the form of CDs and already on my laptop onto the Ipod and if yes, how would I do this? I have heard from some friends that Apple and Itunes is notoriously limited in the types of formats that are accetable? Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. So, the article you have there, HT4895, is pretty good. Just look at the FAQ section of it.
But basically, you will want to create a backup on your computer through iTunes...Just plug your current iPad into it and make sure your iPad and iTunes are logged in with the same Apple ID. At that point, just create a backup.
When you get your new iPad, and before you plug it in or set it up, follow the directions in this link to change your Apple ID. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621?viewlocale=en_US
Once you have that done, plug your new iPad into your computer to sync up with iTunes. Follow the directions for Restore from Backup and it should bring all that info back to your new iPad.
And changing your Apple ID email info will allow you to have your own!!! This should solve all your issues and GL!!! -

I have upgraded to Lion, and want to upgrade my iPhoto 8.1.2, but when I try it says it was not purchased at a MAC Apple store, which it was. Then it asks if I want to buy 9.2.3, and I say yes. It responds with Product Distribution file can't be verified. Maybe damaged or not signed. How do I get this fixed, so I can download the new iphoto's that are available.
How did you move your iPhoto library to the new system? the recommended way is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

I have an old file with an .A4P video from 1999. I don't own any Adobe products (and don't really want to buy any). I just want to be able to convert the file to something that I can actually view. Any help?
I was a kid when I made a documentary for a school project. I've been trying to figure out how to retrieve the file. 4 years ago, I was able to get the files off the Iomega Zip drive (finally), but I now see the file is saved as a .A4P. There is also a file saved as a .PKG as well, but I don't know how to open this with my Windows 8 COmputer..a4p is an Authorware v.4 (Windows) project.
Interesting you have it as a .pkg...usually that's a published-on-a- Mac extension, if I recall.
At any rate, can you put the file up on a Box, Dropbox, FTP, etc...and send me a URL?
I should be able to published it so you can view the project (it would be an .exe).
It can't be converted to anything though - not without manual effort. -

Thanks.There is no such thing as Windows for Mac. Windows is Windows and you can install it on a Windows computer or on an Apple computer. Once installed it will work until you remove it.

I have been given the challenge to learn after effect (CS4), it appears to lag loads and take a hour to render (a 10sec composition).
Is the laptop I have been 'given' not really recommended for after effects, yes the program runs and works albeit very slowly, and appears to tick all the boxes on the minimum requirements.

Most people here think of using the software as journey, and not something that can be totally mastered. That's an important differentiation from most applications, no?
Another important differentiation: knowing the basics is the key to doing the impressive-looking stuff in AE. There is a formidable number of little details to learn at the beginning which will relieve dead ends and frustration later. If you start at the beginning, you actually progress faster later on. Here's a good starting point:

To answer your question directly, I'd say yes: it IS reasonable to ask for something better. AE is a RAM hog, and in AE-Land, 4 gigs is almost nothing. If you must have a laptop, make sure it's filled up with memory. Serious AE power users would advise forsaking laptops altogether and going with a desktop machine.
To ease your task in the interim, I would do a few things:
Got multiprocessing (aka Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously) turned on? Turn it off and keep it off.
Got Open GL turned on to accelerate rendering? Turn it off and leave it off.
Got any footage in a project from a consumer camera, XDCam, HDV cam, helmet-cam or DSLR? Use a different application than AE to convert them into LOSSLESS footage. The files will be huge; that's life in AE-Land. -
