I'm trying to uninstall itunes so I can re-install it, but Apple Mobile Device Support won't uninstall. Any help? I've tried three times already.

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. The second box is essentially the same process descibed by Apple with some extra hints...

What error message do you get when you try to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support? (Precise text, please.)

  • HT1923 I cannot install the latest version of itunes as it instructed me to uninstall the version I had, which I did, but the "Apple mobile device support" will not uninstall.  This has left me with no itunes .  Help please

I cannot install the latest version of iTunes as it instructed me to uninstall the version I had, which I did, but the "Apple mobile device support" will not uninstall.  This has left me with no iTunes and the new version will not install until I can uninstall all the old components.  Help please

You could try downloading and installing 7-Zip (free) and downloading a fresh copy of the iTunesSetup.exe installer, unpack the installer into its components using 7-Zip then try installing AppleApplicationSupport again. It may still fail to install but you may get more useful error messages as to why not.

  • "Apple Mobile Device Support" will NOT uninstall from my computer, so I am still unable to upload iTunes

"Apple Mobile Device Support" will NOT uninstall from my computer so I am still unable to upload iTunes.  I have tried it multiple times in multiple ways and after the uninstall always fails.  Solutions to this specific problem?

I don't know... A link to the official repair advice is given at the top of my user tip. There was a new build of the iTunes 11.1.4.62 setup file released yesterday which is supposed to install cleanly on any system still back on iTunes 11.1.3.8, however they are still giving the same advice for problem systems that have already been upgraded. I.e. the new installer won't repair a currently borked install.
You can download 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components, then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). AMDS might not install right now, but you may get a more useful error message as to why not, and you might be able to run iTunes even if you can't update your devices at this stage.

  • Uninstall msg - receiving msg when I attach iPhone to computer, with iTunes open. "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support

I don't know how to uninstall, then reinstall. Is this to be done on my computer or my phone? seems strange that there isn't just an update.  If I "uninstall", does this lose what I have in iTunes? (I assume not, but have to ask.) This iTunes account is shared by three people in my household. Do they have to do something too?   If you can help, please let me know. Thanks.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Apple Mobile Device Support refusing to uninstall

Updating iTunes and I got an error message telling me I had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Uninstalled iTunes and Apple Software Update but Apple Mobile Device refuses to uninstall (gets to 1 second then rolls back). Any idea what I can do?

    Hey oakman15!
Try using the information in the following article in order to restart your Apple Mobile Device Service to see if that will help you uninstall the program:

  • Mobile Device support won't uninstall on my windows computer

In trying to elimiinate an APSDaemon error on my windows 7 machine, I'm trying to uninstall Apple software to then reinstall.  However, when I try to uninstall my Apple Mobile Device support, it nearly finishes and then goes "backwards" an undoes the uninstall.  What's up with that?

First try a repair install of Apple Mobile Device Support. If that goes through successfully, see if you can now uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
If the Repair install doesn't help, try using the fixit from the following Microsoft document to remove Apple Mobile Device Support:

  • ITunes 9.2 - requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support.

So, I upgraded to the latest iTunes and when I connect my iPhone to the computer, it detects it but a message pops up saying, "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support."
I've downloaded the 64-bit installer and and followed the steps of uninstalling iTunes through this --- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, and I've done this multiple times, but the message keeps popping up. Help?
    P.S. - my computer runs on Windows 7 64-bit.

Yeah, I was looking back at some previous threads before I created this thread on how to fix my problem, and this one was of the ways. So I installed the utility and, removed the Apple Mobile Device Support entry, and restarted and reinstalled iTunes again, but AMDS still did not work when I did it.
Let's keep following up on the possibility for a while longer.
Launch your CleanUp again. *Don't remove anything at this stage.* We're having a looksee first.
In addition to any AMDS entries, are there any lines at the top of the list in CleanUp which lack a Program name, but just show (All Users) and a version number in square brackets? If so, what are the version numbers on those lines? (Best not to include the square brackets in your reply ... the forum software autoformats material inside them into links. Harmless but disoncerting if you aren't expecting it.)
Checking on this, because if an msi is damaged in the right/wrong way, it may appear in CleanUp without a program name. However, some things that ought not to be removed can appear without a program name too. Hence the doublecheck of the version numbers of any such entries.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support will no uninstall

So i finally got my iTunes installed correctly.
I went to plug in my iPod and it said Apple Mobile Service Support needs to be updated.
    iTunes uninstalled without any problems.
When i try and uninstall Mobile Device Support, When it gets to 0 seconds remaining the green loading bar backs all the way up and then the uninstalling window goes away.

You could try downloading and installing 7-Zip (free) and downloading a fresh copy of the iTunesSetup.exe installer, unpack the installer into its components using 7-Zip then try installing AppleApplicationSupport again. It may still fail to install but you may get more useful error messages as to why not.
