thank you for trying to help. I do not have apple software update on my computer. I have tried to install several programs so i could install it but every installation will not finish and rolls back and says no changes were made to my computer so i can't install the update. I even tried to force install as administrator but nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have windows 7 64 bit.

Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
Start > Control Panel > Programs n Features > highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR, -

Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm. So will have to wait

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time? -

I had itunes set up and working since i have had my iPhone and iPad. One day it asked to be updated, so i did. After it updated it stopped working because whenever i tried to open it it would say "this shortcut has either been deleted or moved would you like to delete this shortcut". This kept on happening so I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it, but then comes my second problem. I was advised to unistall the old itune, which i did and then loaded the latest itune 10.5 i think. It dowloaded fine to a point and before finishing, it came up with the same message.

Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems. It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn. Looking still for this fix. -

it's a laptop from Asus, N61J. i'm using windows 7 and can't update the itunes- apparently need to download a new version, idk why they couldn't just let me update it through itunes. and so itunes have error as following picture. please help. i got a new iphone today and because of this stupid itunes i can't sync my iphone.. -_-found a solution in a different discussion.. thank god.

I am a new user. I attemped to install I cloud on my Windows 7 home eddition. I have been in touch with Apple support in reference to my problem. We went through every solution available, and found no fix. The tech then suggested I contact Microsoft concerning this issue. I thought that suggestion was just to get me pointed somewhere but Apple. Boy was I wrong!! I contacted Microsoft, and was directed to a free download called Microsoft Fix. This program fixed something in the regisitor, and wala everything was fixed!! I now have I-Cloud and I-Tunes loaded and working well. So, if you can't install Apple Software and are running Window 7 you might give Microsoft Fix a try, it fixed my problem.....

I know there's a million threads like this, but I thought I'd record my experience. I, too, was having the original poster's error when I tried to update iTunes on Windows XP. I think I was stuck on 10.
I solved it by un-installing iTunes and every other Apple app. I discovered that Apple Software Update would not un-install as its MSI file could not be found. I used the "Windows Install Cleanup" tool from Microsoft to remove Apple Software Update from the list of installed programs. Google "kb290301" for a Microsoft page that includes a download link for it. After that, I was able to install a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5.2.
I'm not sure why this app's folder and MSI were missing from my computer. I had once used Laplink PC Mover to move everything from my old computer to this one, and perhaps it missed a bit.
