Unfortunately, not much to go on here. There are any of  twenty different reasons why backups are not occurring, and no shortcuts that I know of to find out why.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

  • Error message when trying to install mavericks. It won't let me select a disk to install Mavericks on. Message says "This disk is used to Time Machine backups."  It is NOT used for back ups. help

When trying to chose a disk on which to install mavericks I get a message that says "this disk is used for Time Machine backups" and cannot be used.  Help!

I don't know what will help at this point. You should never update a system that has problems, unless you're absolutely sure that the problems are caused by a bug that is fixed in the update. With your backups in an uncertain state, you should not update or do anything else except start a new backup.

  • How do I get the ringtones back that I paid for and had downloaded but then they disappeared?

I Bought ringtones and assigned them to contacts and as my default ringer and then they were gone, how do I get them back?

If you haven't already done so then try updating to iOS 8.1.2, that includes : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1758
This release includes bug fixes and addresses a problem where ringtones purchased through the iTunes Store may have been removed from your device. To restore these ringtones, visit itunes.com/restore-tones from your iOS device.

I tried your suggestion, and it's been giving me the message "Preparing for Backup" for the past 8 hours.  Does this mean TM is backing up my hard drive?  I'll give it a few more hours, but if nothing else happens, I'm not sure what else to do.  I'm not sure if there are any new external hard drives that are compatible with ML yet.

  • Time Machine no longer working after reinstalling OSX 10.5 w/TM backup

About a week ago Disc Utility told me I had serious problems with my HD structure and a reinstall was necessary. Fortunately, restoring everything using Time Machine was flawless, however Time Machine has not done a single backup since. The Backup.backupdb file is still there on the external drive, along with 6 other folders created at the time I did the reinstall (same names as the 6 inside the subfolder, system, library, users...). If I try to manually do a TM backup it tells me I don't have enough HD space as though it wants to start from scratch, when the folders are all still there from before the reinstall.
Any ideas why Time Machine no longer recognizes the files it created 2 weeks ago?

I had to reinstall Leopard and restore using TM. It also worked flawless for me. When I checked to see if it was backing up again, there was nothing. I also tried to manually back and that didn't work either. I went into System Preferences, Time Machine and had to choose my TM backup drive again. Once I did that it worked perfect.

  • Time Machine No Longer Finds Mounted Sparseimages after upgrade to 10.6

Wondering if anyone has a solution or workaround for the following. In Leopard I had no problem having Time Machine backup my mounted sparseimage drives and would exclude the physical hard drives these were mounted on. However, since upgrading to Snow Leopard the other day, Time Machine no longer includes the content of the sparseimage drives in the backup (it is not seeing them even when they are mounted). Presents a problem as I only want Time Machine to backup the files within the sparseimage drives that have changed, rather than backing up the whole sparseimage each time. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Since I have updated to 10.6.1 (over 10.5.8), my time machine only returns error messages. I am backing up 3 computers on 2 disks via airport extreme and it worked perfectly under 10.5.8. Since I upgraded to 10.6.1, I cant mount the disk or if it does, stops after 5 gig.
With no clue as to what error messages, all we can do is tell you to Start with the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.

  • HT201250 Can I include external drives to be backed up using Time Machine.  Not only do I want to back up my IMac, but I have several extenal drives for one iPhoto, one iTunes and one for other files & documents.

Can I include external drives to be backed up using Time Machine?  Not only do I want to back up my IMac, but I have several extenal drives for one iPhoto, one iTunes and one for other files & documents.  How do I know if they are included in the backup process?

Yes, if they are not exclude then TM backs them up.

  • Time Machine no longer showing external HD partitions

I have two LaCie external drives attached to an iMac; one is used for Time Machine and the other is a multi-partitioned drive storing photos, movies, and music.
If I bore down through the TM drive within Finder, I see folders for each backup instance and within those, additional folders representing the Mac HD and each individual partition.
Tonight I discovered this "tree" holds true from 2008 right up until Jan 2011 when only the iMac drive and the top level partition (one of five) have folders.
Alarmed that I may not have archived all my partitions during the last two-three years I first confirmed in Preferences that only the TM drive is excluded from backup by default.  I then opened Time Machine and navigated to mp3s that I knew to be ripped and deleted from one of the invisible partitions earlier this year, well after the 2011 mark.  Time Machine restored without a problem, from where I don't know.
My guess was a change happened in the way the software was writing the file, maybe labeling the partitioned drive with the first partition?  However my "Photo" drive mirrors that partition exactly, no sub folders of music and video.
Anyone have clues as how to make that data visible?  My concern is I'm wanting to insure all files are backed up, erase the external and create fewer partitions, before restoring files from TM.  Will I be able to easily navigate to those files in TM to restore on a clean install when that partition doesn't exist anymore?  Luckily I've only had to use the backup program a handful of times, dumping the occasional file in the same directory it originated from so any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I re-partitioned my HD and now Time Machine doesn't back it up/duplicate it the way it is now set up. My new info is not being backed up. The most current backup displays what my HD looked like before the new partition I made. Anyone know what's going on?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but if you mean the backup runs and completes normlly, but only backs up a few bytes, you may have the unfixed bug in pink type in #D5 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). If not, try the other things there.

  • Since I upgraded to Mavericks, Time Machine no longer finds the Time Capsule Disk on my network

    Hi,
Since I upgraded to Mavericks, Time Machine no longer finds the Time Capsule Disk on my network.
Five minutes before upgrading it however performed successfully a last backup.
I found several posts on this forum and proposed solutions:
    - restarted both the mac and capsule
    - deleted the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist (twice rebooting in between)
    Still have the issue.

  • I just backed up my 1TB (mostly full) internal hard drive to an external 1TB Time Machine drive, and it says I'm fully backed up. Why is the Time Machine drive only half full?

I have a 1TB internal drive in my MacBook Pro (15", mid-2009, running Snow Leopard). A couple days ago I decided to format my unused 1TB external drive and use it for Time Machine, so I could wipe/format my internal drive for the Mavericks upgrade I've been putting off. Time Machine backed up the entire drive, and it appears to have successfully worked! Except that Finder shows 157 gigs free on my internal drive and 463 gigs free on the external... I'm hesitant to erase everything in case some stuff didn't get backed up and might disappear. A Google search tells me that Time Machine doesn't compress files at all... so where the heck did those 300 gigs go? Is there really 300 gigs of stuff on my internal drive that Time Machine just decided didn't need to be backed up?

By default Time Machine will not back up all files, i.e. temp file, cache, and system files. Also you can set Time Machine to exclude some folders/files, take a look at this link for more information.  http://pondini.org/TM/11.html

I performed a time machine backup without plugging my labtop into a power source. My computer died and all the settings were changed, ie the clock and date were changed back to 2001. So I tried to restore my computer using a previous time machine backup. (which I now know was wrong). However, when time machine tried to restore it said there was not enough room to do a backup. It seems that it did a half backup because some essential  files such as system profiler are now missing. Can I undo this restore...? What can I do to fix this

You need to do a full system restore, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.
If that sends a message, please note the exact wording.

  • If I update from 10.6.8 to Mavericks and I have a time machine backup, can I do a full restore back to 10.6.8 and resume as if I had never updated?

If I update from 10.6.8 to Mavericks and I have a time machine backup, can I do a full restore back to 10.6.8 and resume as if I had never updated if there is a problem?  Probably an answer I should know but I don't.  Thanks in advance!  (instruction suggestions welcomed)

Upgrading the OS is a system wide thing. So all users will receive the upgrade.
It should not delete files and such. However, if you have for example files made with Pages '09. Then the new Pages that comes with Mavericks will make a copy of those files so you can continue to edit them. But those new files can not be opened in Pages '09. BUT again, some people perfer Pages '09 and they use that still. Mavericks will just hide Pages '09, it's still usable in Mavericks just hidden.
To be safe, make a back up of your system before doing any major upgrade.
