If updating to iOS 7 caused your contacts to disappear, please call your AppleCare number and tell the advisor your issue. He should have you escalated to a senior advisor in which they can further assist you as far as trying to get your contacts back to you.

Have plugged back in and resynced. The apps should be there in your i tunes on the computer. Make sure the right sync buttons are checked.

Updated to Is o5 and lost all contacts

Hi everyone,
I have updated to os 5 today. Took all the precautions beforehand pressing sync and backing up etc. After the update I have lost all my contacts and apps and how they were arranged on the home screen. Stangely, I still have all my text messages. I'm not bothered about my apps or music they can be purchased again but is there any way of getting my contacts back? I have spent 3+ hours trying many of the options that other have used after a google search but they don't work. Please help me

Yea I guess that now. It would be nice to have known this prior to doing an update. Apple's self help guides do quote that the contact information is contained within a backup:
Backed-up information includes purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books*; photos and video in the Camera Roll; device settings (for example, Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts); app data; Home screen and app organization; Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and more. Media files synced from your computer aren’t backed up, but can be restored by syncing with iTunes.""
It also seems crazy that the backup would store recent calls i.e. the numbers but not the names they are linked too. Oh well I hope Apple either edit the above clause or make an easier way of backing up contacts to itunes. I don't want the numbers on my phone to be merged on my email program!

After syncing in i Tines I lost ALL Contacts on i Phone

When last syncing i Phone, I lost all my contacts on my i Phone. I still have them in Google (Gmail). In i Tunes I have the box checked off "Sync contacts with Google contacts" but still it does not do this. Can anyone help? Thanks

I've solved it.
When you look in "Google Contacts, you'll find different categories like "Friends, Family, Coworkers...."
Now some of your contacts may be in these categories or the whole lot may just be under "All Contacts"
The secret is to have all your contacts in "My contacts"
You do that by going to where all your contacts are located (in my case under "All Contacts")
Choose Select All and then select move to My Contacts
Sync and you have your contacts on your I Phone

Not sure what happened here as your apps should have remained after the update to iOS 6.
First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
You can resync with you computers iTunes and copy the apps back to your iPad.
You can redownload the apps from the App Store. Previously purchased apps can be downloaded again at o charge.
You might have lost your data associated with the apps so you'll have to replace that from the files you backed up to your computer.

check icloud.com..it will ask you to enter your apple id password..and then into contacts in there you should find your contacts

If the iPad was synced with a computer then you will be able to restore them by syncing them across again.
If not then you will be allowed to download them all again from the App Store for free.

ICloud Drive is still upgrading many hrs after updating to IOS 8 on my 5s. Anyone else having this problem? How do I get it to finish?

How do I get the iCloud Drive upgrade to finish? is there a way to interrupt it?
It's been over 5 hrs since I updated my 5s to IOS8 and the swirly thing is still swirling next to iCloud Drive in my phone's iCloud settings.

I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not turning off. I'm not sure if you have tried this, but I recommend first trying to reset your iPhone:
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

I just updated to the IOS5 and lost ALL contacts

I just upddated to the IOS5 and it told me to transfer my purchases to my itunes, which i did. I then installed IOS5 to my iphone 3gs. And followed the on screen prompts on the phone. But upon Exploring i found ALL my contacts were gone. Any ideas? Did I just lose my contacts forever? Are they on icloud somewhere? Any ideas about recovery? I did save all my pictures and obviously my music and apps are stored on itunes.

I got them all back . Here's how.
1. plug in your phone to itunes and wait for it to show up in the devices
2. right click on your device and click restore from backup.
3. Ta Da!
Hope this works. Btw this wont erase the IOS5 software just restore your contacts,notes,and such. IOS5 will remain intact.

I accidently linked two IPhones and lost all contacts. I removed the one IPhone from the account but everytime one person corrects contacts, it effects both IPhones. How do I stop this from happening?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only restore them from a backup. This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.

Hi, i also having the same problem. On Monday, all of my contacts dissapeared, i was not able to access my calendar and my notes were wiped off as well. I read to restart phone, I did, and it helped. My contacts were restored. Too bad my notes and calendar events did not. At least i have all of my contacts back!

Lost all contacts after iOS 4.3 update [iPhone 4]

The description above pretty much tells it all. All contacts missing from iPhone 4 after update to iOS 4.3.
All music, calendar, photos, voicemails are still there. And the strange thing (to me) is that the numbers are still there under "recent" and "favorites", just not the contact names to associate them with.
Backup is useless, as it is from after the update [why is there only one backup? That is useless, and you can't seem to force backups with date stamps].

I had the same experience as RandyCPU, updated to 4.3 yesterday, all contacts disappeared but all other information still there, photos, texts, recent calls but no names etc. I too found that my phone was not backing up contacts and I only had the info from my changeover to the iphone4 in December. I asked if I could set it to back-up on syncing and was told it did it automatically but this is obviously not the case, I was then told that I would have to do it manually. Apple could only suggest restoring the December back-up but I have now lost everything loaded on the phone since then, they also advised that I was the only example of this problem. Very unhappy and still no idea why it happened.
