HT201210 CAUTION REGARDING RESTRICTIONS How to restore from iCloud?

I called support to ask if there was a way to put my "adult apps/PG-17+ apps into a folder with a passcode so that I could let my 12 year old grandson play on my IPad with out worry. I was told you can not put your apps in a folder and assign a passcode however you can go in to restrictions/app and check the box 9+ and that would restrict him to use only apps for that age group. As we spoke I followed along taking the steps directed by the technician on my iPhone and WoW it seem to work. Later on I turned on my iPhone and I nearly hit the floor....all my apps were no longer in their assigned folders....they were now scattered over all the pages...all of my hours and hours of creating folders, sorting, dragging apps accross pages and pages...all of that time consuming hard work gone! I called back the technician did the same as I testing the app restrictions and WaLa! The same thing happened to his apps on his phone. I told him that i thought it was maybe a new 5.1.1 update glitch but he said he had not yet done the update. Huh? I was then told that all I needed to do was delete my iCloud and then when I turned it back on...i would then be able to restore from my iCloud backup and all would come back ....yea...I followed the directions...deleted the iCloud and then turned it back on...It came back on but no option to restore. Well it is now 3:13 am and  I have another call in for tec support.....in the meantime ...any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You can restore iCloud data if you don't know the ID and password for the account it is stored in.  If you think she may have used yours, go to icloud.com from your computer, sign in with your ID and password and see if it's her data in the account.
She can also try to find her ID as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5625.  Then she can reset the password as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617.

    Restoring to an iCloud backup has to be done in the initial setup process.  If you have any data on your iPod now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

    You can restore from iTunes using the restore as new phone option or from the device from settings > general > reset > Erase All......
    Once you have restored and enter the set up assistant take the restore from iCloud back up option.

    I understand you recently sold your iPhone and on your existing iPhone 4 you are seeing data that isn't yours.  If you did not erase the iPhone before selling it, the resource below will provide some steps for erasing the content remotely and removing the device from your account.  I would also suggest changing your Apple ID password.

    Margie, if you go to www.icloud.com, do you see all of your contacts there?  If not, you should be able to restore your phone from your most recent iCloud backup.

    My own opinion is that you should install the later appropriate version of Silverkeeper. That said, I would in fact recommend if you can wait a few days for an answer, that you email the La Cie Silverkeeper backup team via the email link on the site at http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper/
    They are careful to say they are not officially providing a backup service, but when I emailed them with a query regarding usage about a year ago after downloading Silverkeeper for myself, I got a reply within a couple of days that cleared up my question.

    You can change this in Settings:
    1. Go to Settings > iCloud
    2. Tap on the Apple ID
    3. Tap Sign Out
    4. Sign in with the new Apple ID.
    If you need the Apple ID for the restore process and don't remember details, you can go to iforgot.apple.com, even if you don't remember the Apple ID.

    Try restoring the backup again.  Your apps and other purchased media should have been restored from your backup if they were on your old phone when you backed it up.
