I am. And the people at my local apple store spent 3 hours trying to figure it out. now I'm stuck with a brick till I can get it figured out

HT201210 I just tried to update my iphone 5 c and its now put my phone into recovery mode
when i connect it to the computer to restore it its making me download the update first which i dont want to do cos it takes hours,
is there anyway out of the downloading the update at this stage and just restoring my iphone?
ThanksDelete it? My iPhone was connected to my laptop, and I said Download and Install (or whatever) from iTunes. It downloaded it, then announced the firmware version was wrong... so I know of no intermediate file to delete. I just tried it again, hitting the Download Only button, but I see absolutely no indication of where that file would be stored, or, now that it is (supposedly) downloaded, how I would go about installing it. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

I've been hppily usingtoday until about half an hour ago!!!
It updated the O/S, then I went about connecting to I-Tunes, after a while it flashed up on I-Tunes "There is no SIM card installed in the I-Phone you are attempting to activate - please disconnect and try again..."
I've tried taking it out an dputting it back in several times!!
The phone now just says "no service"..

edit the hosts file on your computer and remove any lines that contain gs.apple.com. Disable your antivirus and firewall.

If you end up using the If the iTunes Store opens successfully section of the document, and the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox is already checked, try unchecking and rechecking it and clicking OK. -

Are you sure you have a 3GS and not a 3G? The 3G cannot be updated to iOS5. What version are you on now?... Settings > General > About > Version

Errors when updating leads to corrupt system files and this may be your problem. If you're using windows, connect your device to PC and run any third party app like Syncios. If it detects, you maybe in luck and try to back-up your data if possible. I hope that it won't and if doesn't, there is no other way to recover files. You should be restoring with iTunes and all data will be erased, or else your device may become unusable.
