I was syncing my iPod and got the message that an update was available. I downloaded the update and just as it was almost finished, I got an error message. It couldnt' update my iPod because the "firmware file is not compatible." What's up with this? I've never had any problems before with this iPod or with my iPhone 4S before this.

Update your iTunes to latest version.
Try restoring your phone in DFU Mode, if that doesn’t work then try downgrading your iTunes back to iTunes 8 and try again.

When syncing on iTunes, the syncing meter runs in iTunes in my computer but nothing appears in my device (It should have Sync In Progress). Were you updating/restrore via the Restore/update button in iTunes?
Try deleting the existing ufirware file and try again

Hi, i have the latest 3rd gen iPad 32GB and iTunes 10.6. I have the IOS 6 beta downloaded on my windows laptop. I had someone add my UDID to there apple developers acount. However when i press Shift+Restore and select the beta file a i get an error sayng 'iPad could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.' Has anybody got any idea on how to restore my iPad to the IOS 6 beta file i have downloaded?

Only developers have legal access to iOS 6 right now, if you really, really wanted it you could sign on as a developer for $99.

Error 7 came up when updating itunes, told to reinstall but 'apple mobile device' failed to start, check privileges? what does this mean?

when trying to update itunes error 7 appeared and a message to reinstall. have tried to dowload again but now 'apple mobile device' failed to start, verify you have sufficient privileges? Anyone know what this means. do I ignore?

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.
Can anyone please help?

To make things wors yesterday iphone was stoped i shutdown it and when i try to turn On the apple appears for a 30 sec then disappear... and again apple appears and for 30 sec disappear...So to fix this problem i need to do restore but i cant becouse i get the error.

The error message you are getting sounds like you have jailbroken your iPhone or have updated to iPhone OS 4.0 Beta.
Eitherway, I would follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275 for a possible solution as these steps may not work.

Appeared to download the update OK but as soon as it went to install it came up with "The iPod "xxxxx" could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible" Why and what do I do now? I'm pretty sure it was trying to install 5.1.1

You get this message because iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
Do any of these aply to you?
