HT201250 Lost events on calendar - Tried Time Machine - would not alter calendar
I was editing some events on my calendar, moving certain events to a new calendar when I noticed that some of them had been deleted when I went back to view them. I tried Time Machine, however, it said that it could not alter calendar as operating system was utilizing it. How can I get these events back?
I have tried all the other suggestions, it will not restore, eventhough I found a data file from October 14, the calendar remains the same. I also have seagate backup however I can't locate the data for calendar on it. I tried the same methods, not working/

MAC OSX 10.5.8 and 2TB Time Machine would not back up. Saw discussion that suggested you change name without apostrophes etc. Went into Time Machine and did a manula backup without a name and it appears to be backing up now. Does this remove delete the old backup's ?

Time Machine does not backup home/user directory (on separate drive)
I recently installed a SSD into my Mini. Due to size restrictions, my home/user directory has to be kept on another drive. I retained the stock 1TB drive that came with the Mini for this.
Ok, installed the SSD, restored a Time Machine backups (sans user data). Used a different admin user and configured my user to use the 1TB drive for it's home directory (/Volumes/1TB/home/<user>). Restart, log in as my user, all is good. All data, settings, etc is there. Everything looks normal.
Time Machine REFUSES to backup this directory. It will backup the 1TB drive and anyting else I create in it, but not the home directory. I tried every permission trick I could think of or found online. I even tested it further by formatting the 1TB drive fresh, adding a new user, configuring the user to use the 1TB for their home directory and it still won't back it up (this was a test of permissions the OS set, to make sure I didn't change my data perms somewhere along the way). Time Machine would not backup the new user's home directory on the 1TB drive.
Any thoughts? I can't be the first person to have their home directory on a non-OS drive.
If I were to create a folder/file in /Volumes/1TB/<test file> ... Time Machine gets it perfect. It just will NOT touch /Volumes/1TB/home/<anything here>
Thanks!Open the Time Machine preference pane and unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Options button. If there is one particular folder with items that are not being backed up reliably, add it to the list of excluded items. If there are many such folders, add your home folder to the list, or add a whole volume (i.e., what Apple calls a "disk.") Save the changes.
Start a backup, or wait for one to happen automatically. When it's done, open the preference pane again and remove the exclusion(s) you made earlier. Back up again and see whether there's a change. -
In working with icalendar, i inadvertantly lost all Friday entries after March 14th. My time machine was not hooked up. Hoped that the cloud might have this information.
You can check to see if they are still in iCloud by looking at your calendar on icloud.com. If they are, go to System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, uncheck Calendars, choose Delete from Mac (they will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in. If they aren't on icloud.com you might just give it some time to see if they reappear due to a server glitch.

Is it possible to recover a single event in iPhoto with Time Machine?
I was looking back through the events in iPhoto (300+), nd found one missing. Not sure why; probably accidentally deleted.
There is a way, but it may well be extremely tedious. If you know the filename of the photo, you can try searching for that either
1. in Spotlight (if Time Machine has not been added as an exclusion in > System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy),
or
2 manually through the finder tree:
Backups.backupsdb > ....... > Pictures > iPhoto Library
You'll need to choose a backup that you're fairly certain would have been before the time you think it might have been deleted in order to narrow down the search.
In any case follow the path to an 'iPhoto Library' file on your TM disk. Click once on iPhoto Library to select it, hold down the control key, and click again. Choose 'Show Package Contents' from the menu that appears.
This will open up the package like an ordinary folder. Look for a folder called 'Originals'. From here you can browse through your indivudal pictures for that backup date, but there'll be a lot and it'll probably take you a while.
Using either of the methods above, when you finally find the file on your Time Machine disk, click on it once, press 'Command-C' to copy it, then go back to your normal desktop and press 'Command-V' to paste it.
Open iPhoto as usual and import the photo from your desktop. -

Do a backup, preferably 2 seperate ones.
Revert to a Previous OS X
Revert Yosemite to Mavericks
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience. -

Can I include external drives to be backed up using Time Machine? Not only do I want to back up my IMac, but I have several extenal drives for one iPhoto, one iTunes and one for other files & documents. How do I know if they are included in the backup process?
Yes, if they are not exclude then TM backs them up.

Since I upgraded my iMac,my time machine is not backing up automatically to my time capsule since my upgrade to Moutain Lion.
I have a similar problem. On my iMac, I swapped out (at Genius Bar) my HD via Seagate replacement program. Ever since my time machine won't backup. I get a error msg that says:
Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "[my time machine name]"
The backup disk is not available.
Any suggestions.

I disconnected My Passport by mistake, and now Time Machine can not recognise it. It no longer appears in the My Devices section of Finder. What do I do?

My computer keeps getting a message that "Time Machine could not complete the backup. It continues, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred creating the backup folder. I have to clear the pop up from my screen to continue using the computer. It is getting very tiresome. Any thoughts?

Time machine does not recognize my external drive
I have a perfectly good IOgear externaldrive with four partitions which I have used for years to backup files from variuos macs.
Upon connecting the drive to backup my current imac (os 10.6.8), it informed me that time machine would erase one of the 4 partitions in order to do the backup. Fine .After this happened, the partition simply disappeared from the Time machine menu, so I attempted to re-mount the external drive. The computer then gave me a message- 'the diskyou have mounted is not recognized by this computer.' Not very informative.
I attempted to use disk utility to repair the disk, no luck. Although botht the System disk and my external drive are recognized as in the same format, the external drive is 'not mounted' Tried disk repair, but says it cannot repair the disk.
Very disheartening, since I have used this external drive for years and have collected a massive number of files on it. Moreso since the system one depends upn for security ends up destroying your files My fear is that the information is not retrievable, that the drive will have to be reformatted, if that's possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated..>????Yep, certainly looks that way. For 5 or 6 years I've been happily culling, backing up, and restoring files from/to my external drive, neatly arranged in 4 partitions.Ten minutes with Time Machine, and all that seems to be lost. I'm sorry I ever set eyes on that ugly little icon on my desktop.I can certainly understand an error occuring while erasing a partition, but rendering the entire drive useless and unretrievable? This should never happen, not in this day and age.
Sorry for the rant, but I'll never use Time Machine again...
