HT201250 The initial backup is taking 2 days.  Can I stop and restart without any issues?

Just got an iomega external hard disk backup and the initial backup is said to take two days.  Can I stop and restart without any issues?

On a big backup, the initial estimate is often wrong and gets better after a little while. But, yeah, there is a "Stop backing up" command in the Time Machine menu, right?  That is safe as far as I know.

Can a subVI tell when the application it is part of has been stopped and restarted?
It is easy enough for a subVI to tell when it has been run for the first time after having been loaded into memory. But is there a way for a subVI to tell when the application it is part of has been stopped and restarted? Is there some property or application-invocation-specific refnum that when queried multiple times during the same run of the application would return the same value yet when queried during different runs of the application would return different values?
I dont want to depend on anything that happens when a run is exited.
I dont want to require code to be included in the main V
    I to accomplish the solution.
(Otherwise I could, in the main VI create an un-named semaphore tied to a global; the subVI could then check the global to see if the value changed, which it would between runs of the application.)
    Any ideas?

Have you tried the First Call? function? It's on the Advanced>Synchronization palette.

my i-touch music is interrupted by voice memo. the music also fast forwards, changes tracks or stops and starts without touching the i-touch. can you help?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Rest. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defauslts/new iPod.

Firstly, if you order online from the Apple Store, I assume you will be using an "upgrade" discount, right?  If yes, there is no doubt that your service provider will accept you new iPhone 5 without question.  Secondly, I think you will see an shipped by date as you order online, and thus will know if the date is better than your local retailer.

    Hello,
I recommend you contact AT&T's dedicated BB Support staff (call their front line, request escalation to BB Support) and have them check to be sure that your account with them is correctly configured for this device. • 10.5.5 Initial backup is taking DAYS (!!) over firewire 400

I ran into an issue where I had to erase my Time Machine backups on my external FW400 OWC Neptune backup drive. Not a big deal as I also use Superduper for bootable backups.
so last week I tried doing a new initial backup and it's taking days literally to get just under half done. Did 10.5.5 fry firewire somehow? up until now I had normal firewire 400 speed.
my work machine is 10.5.5 MDD dual 867 G4, 200/80 GB drives, 2 GB RAM backing up to an OWC Neptune FW400 drive with 500 GB drive partitioned as 350 and 114 gb paritions.
I tried running Disk Utility and found no errors, I repaired permissions for good measure
    Any thoughts?

Ok I ran Diskwarrior 4.1 on the G4 and fixed a few minor errors
I then ran it on my backup partition (the 350 GB partition of the Neptune drive)
I got speed inhibited by disk malfunction error followed by the number. I've used DW enough to know that that that's not good.
Just for kicks I ran DW on the 114 GB partition of the Neptune drive and it reported no problems. Does that mean it's not a hardware failure????
I then rebooted the G4 and attached the drive via firewire 400 to my mid 2007 MacBook Pro and ran disk utility (my thoughts were it might be bad firewire ports on the G4. I have the standard 2 plus 4 more on a PCI card).
    Disk utility reported no errors.
Now I am using DW to check the files and folders on the backup drive for problems....

  • How can I stop and restart the ApplePhotoStreams.Exe process on my Windows 7 computer?

I sometimes notice my CPU utilization skyrockets and my computer fan switches to high. This happens sporadically. The process causing this is ApplePhotoStreams.Exe. It appears the process goes into some infinite loop trying to update or sync pictures. Applications on my PC slow down and the fan stays on high (which is really loud) until I cancel the ApplePhotoStreams.exe process. I can easily cancel the process using Task Manager, but then any photos I take with my iPhone do not replicate over onto my PC unless I reboot my computer.
I'm not sure if anyone can easily tell me why ApplePhotoStreams.exe is doing this in the first place, but I would more like to know how to restart the ApplePhotoStreams.exe process after I cancel it without having to reboot my PC.

you can download a new installer and serial number from Adobe at Adobe - CS2 Downloads

  • How can I stop and restart a .vi with a single front panel button?

    Hey guys, a newbie here.
I have a .vi with a stacked sequence. The first few frames are hardware initialization and settings (LIN master node) and the data the hardware should transmit (frame response table). In the next frame there's a loop in which the hardware sends and recieves data (LIN monitor). If I want to change the initialization, settings or data values, I have to stop the .vi and restart it. I was wondering if there is a simple way of doing this with a single click (a button on the front panel).
An alternative would be to put another loop outiside the whole stacked sequence and then run it a single time with a push of a button (the inner loop should let the outer one restart), is that possible?
I hope I made any sense. Thanks for any suggestions.

Ideally, redoing the code with a state machine would be the best way to go, if only so that you can add this powerful tool to your toolbox. That being said, wrapping your existing code in a while loop, with its own stop button to stop the program, will work if executing the entire sequence is ok. Where you might run into problems with this is if there is a step in the sequence that shouldn't be executed again, then it would require wrapping that sequence frame's code in a case statement that executes only the first time through. If you have the time, learning how to use a state machine would be a real benefit, really taking your LabVIEW knowledge to the next step, if you pardon the pun.

  • Can I stop and restart DU erasure of an external drive?

    Hi,
I have a long time to go before erasing my 1T external drive, can I stop the process and start it again?
    Thanks,
    Emanuel

Did you choose one of the secure erase options? If so, you can stop the process but if you want to do a secure erase, the next time you try it, it will start all over again overwriting every accessible sector on the HD & take just as long.

  • While updating the software of my iphone 4 it just stop and restart and keep doing this

While upgrading the software of my iphone 4 it just stop updating and the apple screen appear then it just turn on and off on the apple screen..i try the sleep mode and turn it off but when it turn on it goes on the apple screen and restart on and off..tell me what to do please....i try everything reseting while conecting through usb etc..

Your screen is probably broken in that area and the "ink spot" you think you see is LCD liquid on the inside of the panel that's leaked and spread out.

  • HT3910 how do i fix the mistakes i made when i erased hard disk and restart without reinstalling the hd hard disk

i accidently erased macbook pro hd disk and when i tried to reinstall marvrick, it wont let me install and then i decided to restart then apple icon never came on and it did nothing for a long time.. please help.. i think it was hacked or virus messed it up

It was not hacked, nor was this a virus. You erased the hard drive, so there's no system for it to start up from. I'm not sure what "it won't let me install" means, since you haven't given a specific error message, detailed description of the problem or information about how you were trying to install.
First, before you do anything else, was the data on that drive backed up? If not, it's currently gone. You may be able to get most of it back using a data recovery tool. If you need to do this, do not do anything else with that drive, and see Recovering deleted files.
If you already had Mavericks installed before erasing the hard drive, hold down command-R at startup. This should start you up in recovery mode. From there, you can reinstall Mavericks. If you did not have Mavericks installed, or if you did but cannot get it to start in recovery mode, then you will need to reinstall an older system. If the machine originally came with Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) or older, you will need the install disks to do this. If it came with a more recent system, try holding down command-option-R at startup to boot into internet recovery mode. You will need to be on a decently-fast network.

I used an ethernet cable between my iMac and Time Capsule for the initial backup.  Now that initial backup is concluded, can I assume I can simply unplug the Time Capsule from my computer without any glitches and Time Capsule will then run wirelessly.  Is this assumption correct?

can I assume I can simply unplug the Time Capsule from my computer without any glitches and Time Capsule will then run wirelessly.  Is this assumption correct?
Yes, if the computer will be able to receive a strong wireless signal from the Time Capsule.
I did not disable wireless.  So I assume the backups are occurring both with the ethernet and wirelessly.
It is inot possible to have both an "active" Ethernet and "active" wireless signal simultaneously. If an Ethernet connection is established, your computer will default to the Ethernet connection. If the Ethernet cable is unplugged, the computer will revert to the wireless connection.
I also show 2 wireless networks available through Airport.  Shouldn't there only be one now?
You have a simultaneous dual band Time Capsule. That means that it will always be providing both a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz network.
I named my new network the same name as the old network.  This enabled all of our devices to continue with their connection without entering the new network and/or passwords; however, I am afraid this may pose problems in the future somehow.  Any input on this issue as well?
Things should be fine. Devices will connect to the best signal.....either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz....based on their capabilties and location in relation to the Time Capsule.

  • Priming the initial backup

Will microsoft offer a service to prime the initial backup by accepting a couriered external disk containing the data? Specifically, my issue is that I have a number of branch sites with limited upload bandwidth, it would take weeks to complete an initial
backup. Alternatively, is there a way I could go about taking a copy of the vhdxs containing the data that needs to be pushed to azure backup, put them on an external disk, perform the initial upload from head office (over a much faster connection), and
then allow the branch office server to perform the subsequent incremental backups?
    Cheers

Seems yes on february 2015. Offline seeding – complete your initial seeding faster and off-the-network

Azure Backup enables customers to complete the initial backup by integrating with the
Azure Import/Export service. Rather than sending the initial backup copy over a congested network, customers can ship the disk containing the initial backup copy to the nearest Azure datacenter.

  • Is Time Machine under Snow Leopard faster only for the initial backup?

A few days ago, I upgraded to Snow Leopard -- via clean install, manual reinstallation of apps, etc. So understandably, the first Time Machine backup to a preexisting store on an original 500 GB Time Capsule is going to be huge and take a long time. Apple claims that TM is 40% faster on the initial backup, but are there speed improvements as well? I was surprised by the slowness; I started it before going to bed, and it wasn't nearly done when I woke up:

The throughput rate is quite variable, but at its best, it's only about 2.7 MB/sec. Is that to be expected, or would I have to start a new backup to see speed improvements?
