    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

This is one of the most basic of functions of the iPhone.  This is a good time for you to read the User Guide.  All the instructions on how to operate yor phone are included.  I suggest you read through it.

  • Is there a way to transfer all the music and apps from an iphone to a computer with a new hard drive

I've had a new hard drive fitted in my laptop and i wanted to know if there is a way that i could tranfer my music and app from my iphone to itunes on the computer?

Yes, the Mac can read NTFS drives, but not write to them.
If you have the drive formatted FAT or exFAt then the Mac can read and write to it. But before formatting, remove the data as it's erased, and format it on the PC as it's easier. Right click on Windows and Format.
    Drives, partitions, formatting w/Mac's + PC's
Moving your personal data via the external drive is likley the best option, there are other methods like Migration, but they are problematic and take a long time, a drive is simple, fast and direct.

  • I'm upgrading from iPad2 to iPad air.  how can I transfer all my data and apps from one to the other?

Hi, I'm upgrading from my iPad2 to the iPad Air.  What is the most painless way to transfer all my data from one device to another?
I have iannotate, which I've just found out is no longer syncing via iCloud (I thought that's what I was paying all that storage for) and a lot of catalogued PDF's on it.  Is there any other way besides plugging it in to my old Mac via iTunes to do the transfer?

Favor the route via iTunes and local storage on the computer. MUCH faster than any cloudy backup, no matter the speed of your Internet connection. No network beats the speed of a hard drive. Just make sure there's enough room on the computer before you start, must contain all that's on the iGadget.

  • How can i sync all my music and playlists from my iphone to my new computer

how can i sync all my music and playlists from my iphone to my new computer

Yes.  You can sync everything that is currently on your iPod Touch to your newer one. Just plug it in and sync it like you did with the old one.
If you want to retain your App data, see this article for information on backing up your current iPod Touch and restoring the backup onto a new one.

If you purchase the iPad, keep in mind that some Apps may not be compatible with it.

  • Is it possible to set up my iPhone 5 as a new phone and sync ONLY my contacts and apps from my iPhone 4?

Is it possible to set up my iPhone 5 as a new phone and sync ONLY my contacts and apps from my iPhone 4? Or do I have to set up my iPhone 5 by using my iPhone 4 backup (I'd rather not)?

Contacts are not stored in a backup, so a restore will not bring them in.  Contacts, along with all the other Apple databases (log into icloud.com with a browser and look at the various pages - this is what I call the Apple databases) are contained in their own locations on the servers.  You should be able to take a new device, go to Settings>iCloud, log in to the icloud account, then turn on the services (e.g. contacts) you want to sync.  They will then be synced to the device.  That has nothing to do with a restore and with the old iphone 4.  As for apps, their listing and locations on the screens are stored in a backup.  If you don't restore, then go to the itunes app store, look under Purchased Apps and download them again.

  • Here's how I successfully transferred all my Contacts and Pictures from PC!

    Hi,
By no means a detailed How-To, but I wanted to share my experience in transferring my contacts and music from a PC with Vista to a new Mac. Note that my contacts were "Windows Contacts" (not Outlook), and the events I had on my calendar where not really synced in the PC, I just had them on the iPhone.
But I had this question on another forum, and I guess some people might have similar issues:
(I also transferred all my songs)
Just in case someone has a similar issue, here's how it all went down:
    1. I backed up iTunes from the PC with built in backup function.
    2. De-authorized songs in the PC right after.
    3. After setting up the iMac, I loaded the backup DVD. I opened iTunes on the new iMac and selected "import" and pointed to the DVD. (If your library is too big, use several Dual-Layered DVD's as the backups can performed on several discs)
    4. It imported the entire music Library, shows in playlists as "Imported Library 2007-28-11"
    5. Clicked on "authorize" and done.
HERE IS WHERE THE STRESS STARTED, OR SO I THOUGHT
    6. Connected the iPhone, it immediately asked if I wanted to sync up the pictures. I clicked "yes". Sent all pictures TAKEN WITH THE iPHONE to iPhoto.
    7. Clicked on the iPhone icon on the sidebar in iTunes (where the sync and restore options are), navigated to the "info" tab, selected contacts and calendar and synced.
    8. Gave me a warning message saying info on MY iMAC would be altered by more than 5%, I said OK and TA-DAN! I had my calendar synced with iCal and my contacts synced with Address book! All the info on my iPhone actually transferred to the iMac with NO HASSLES!.
Not only that, Safari was able to import all my bookmarks from Firefox on my PC! This is most awesome and unexpected! The only thing I noticed is that my purchased songs from my old iTunes on the PC do not appear under "Purchased" in my new iTunes; so when I synced up the iPhone with the music, they also DO NOT appear in the phone under the "purchased" playlist. The songs are there, and they work fine, they just don't appear on that particular playlist, they appear on the main Library and under the "Backup" Library...
Still, that's a minor detail. Everything went smooth and I love my new Mac!
    Switch from PC = Easy!

Well, you can disable the automatic start up of iTunes. That is done in Edit>preferences>Devices and place a checkmark by "prevent iPods, iPhones, etc". Have you been syncing the iPhone in the past? If so, were you using a supported application to sync your address book to? As far as pictures are concerned, you are generally prompted to import your pictures, and if it was me and I took a series of important pictures, the FIRST thing I would have done when I got to the computer was to import the photos.
Check your Windows Address book to see if they are there. If not, you will not be able to recover them.

  • How do I put all my photos and music from my iPhone 4s 64gb to my new mac book air?

Ok, normally you would use Apple's Migration Assistant to move all your data from your old computer to your new one but if you don't have access to it, and all your data is only on your phone, you'll have to follow this guide to transfer the data to your iTunes library: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive.
You will read in this guide that iTunes will not transfer music from your phone to your iTunes library if it wasn't purchased from the iTunes store, and that you will have to use 3rd party software such as PhoneView to transfer it.  Also, you can only import photos to your computer that are in your camera roll (by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083).  If you have photos in other albums such as photo library or photo stream, you will have to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer.  You will need to transfer this data to your computer first.
After transferring your non-purchased music and non-camera roll photos to your computer, follow the steps in the linked guide above exactly as written, being careful to begin by disabling automatic syncing in iTunes, and being sure that you enter at least one contact and on calendar event on your computer, and authorizing your computer for all Apple IDs used to purchase your apps, music and other media (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this Computer) before syncing.
Your other option is to wait until you have access to the computer you last synced with, and then use Migration Assistant to copy your entire iTunes folder and other data to your new computer, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889.

  • How do you transfer all your files to an external hard drive?

I have an external hard drive and tried to move all my files and documents onto it. The guy at the apple store told me to just drag my user into the hard drive (the icon with the house next to it when you go into Macintosh HD) but it said it could not do that. So i tried to drag just one word document into it and it still had the error. I tried from a PC and it worked fine. Could it be that this external hard drive only works with a PC and Microsoft Operating Systems? Do I need to buy an external hard drive that is only for a Mac??
    Please help!!!!

    This is not unusual
Quick question, have you formatted the drive using the mac disk utilities?
If you need it to be accessed from both windows and mac, then make sure it's formatted as FAT32 or FAT Extended.
If you uses osx journaled, then the windows computer cannot read it.
When you've done this, then try and drag your files across.
    Two words of warning though.
1 when you format a drive, you erase all data on it, so make sure you have copies.
2 FAT32 has a max file size of 4GB, so if you have files larger than that, format as FAT Extended.

  • How do you put all your photos and videos and apps back on your iphone, once it has been restored and updated

    Dear Apple,
I just updated my iphone from my laptop using itunes and all my apps, music, photos etc.. were on my mobile. But when the update was finished, my phone did not have all the apps it had on before it had completely restarted and I tried to restore my iphone using my laptop but nothing had changed and all my things that were on my iphone were gone and I have tried to look on websites to get back my photos and everything but there was no answer to my question.
    Please help..thankyou
    Hannah

First, you don't have to use such a large font setting, most of us can read just fine. Did you backup your phone before doing the update? Did you reload that update after you restored your phone?  All apps can be reloaded from the App Store if needed. Have you always used this computer for all of your updates and backups? Your music can be synced from your iTunes library again also. If you did not backup your pictures or videos to your computer, you may have lost them.
