I backed up my phone and i lost my contacts and pictures. can they be recovered?
You should be syncing your contacts to your computer regularly. They should be in Outlook or whatever program you chose to sync your contacts.
You should be importing all pics taken with iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.
If you failed to do this, then it is all likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

This issue is also complicated I suspect by me changing emails prior to emigration and not great use of my additional icloud storage. I am sure I had itunes on my icloud but cannot see it for the life of me now.
Having read a few posts what has happenend is I have stuck the USB cable into my daughters laptop with her own itunes on there. I didnt realise this until after the dreaded event!
Is it possible to back up remotely? What other options are there? If you still have your files on your iPod, you can recover them from there see this post from Zevoneer:

If not, there are Windows undelete utilities which you can find with Google, but it is a chancy business and you should use your PC as little as possible if you are going to try it. Windows doesn't actually remove a deleted file, but it makes its space available for reuse.
Typing Windows XP undelete into Google finds as fair bit, but I haven't used one of these programs myself so I can't recommend one. -
I was editing my photos and adding them to a album and suddenly the app is closed marking a erros. I go back and open the application and are not photos. How can I recover them? Are not in the image folder.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I can't find my pictures from iphoto. I was downloading Iphone pictures and the library disappeared. How can I recover them?
Restoring a backup is specific to the backup program you are using to do your daily backups - consult it's manual, help file or author's support site
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library starting with the first option and trying others until you are succesful

I lost my Contacts. How can I restore them?
Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
If used as designed it is not possible to lose contacts. -

Having upgraded my IOS I have lost some downloaded programs, how can I recover them?
Either redownload them from the iTunes Store or sync the device with an iTunes library which contains them.

I gave my sister my iPhone 4 when she transferred he information from her old phone iCloud removed my contacts and put her contacts in my iPhone 5. When she send me a text incomes in from my email address
Your sister needs to create her own Apple ID and use it for iMessage and to create her own iCloud account and stop using yours.
Have her go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, then sign back in with a different ID to create a separate account. She should then turn on her iCloud syncing and when prompted choose Merge to upload her data to the new account.
Then she should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in using her new iCloud ID. If she's using your ID for FaceTime, have her do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime. (You can share the same ID for iTunes without any probems.)
After she has migrated her data to her own account, you can go to icloud.com and delete her data from your account.
You'll have to restore your contacts from a backup, if you have one. -

I synced my 3G iphone with itunes for the first time, and lost everything on my phone. how do i get it back?
You don't.
You synced your iPhone with iTunes for the first time after how long?
And this didn't happen by syncing only. This means you transferred the backup for another iPhone or you restored the iPhone with iTunes. It is not possible for everything to be lost by syncing alone. All iTunes content on your iPhone can be lost but not any photos in the Camera Roll and the same for contacts unless you synced contacts with an empty address book application on your computer. -
This morning I updated my iphone 5 to ios 6.1 and everything is fine except most of my contacts are gone. The text messages and calls are still listed, but with phone numbers and no names. I went into my icloud and they are deleted from there too. How can I restore them all? They are all still in my address book on my computer.
I had this problem post 6.1. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I'd just recently changed my password after being convinced I'd been hacked, due to being told I was entering my password wrongly, repeatedly by iCloud / iTunes. It turns out my iCloud account on my Settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars was listed as Inactive. Putting in my details, turning off Contacts over iCloud (thus deleting them) and turning them back on again, repopulated my contacts from iCloud with numbers attached to them.

My brother synced an old device to my iphone 5 from itunes and it overwrited all my contacts and photos with everything
from the old itunes device. HELP.. how can I get back all my photos, contacts and apps? Would itunes have saved this
somehow when the device synced?
I'm devastated - we just moved from Boston to Cali and loosing all my info. tonight has crushed me! Any help is so
greatly appreciatedIf you've been using your phone as recommended in the User Guide, you've synched your contacts with a cloud service like Google, MobileMe or iCloud, or with a program on your computer like Address Book or Outlook.
Your contacts should still be safe in those programs and ready for resynching.
If, on the other hand, you've relied only on the iPhone to maintain your contacts, then you have just learned a valuable lesson, and this is why is is NOT recommended by Apple.
Likewise, it's recommended that photos get uploaded from your phone to your computer for safe keeping. Did you do this? -
I just updated my ipod and realized I lost most of my contents like my address book and calender dates, also all my notes and to do's, anyway I can recover them?
I thought I'd lost my notes, too. I also have an iPad mini, and noticed the notes app icon and clicked on it. What was more obvious on the iPad was that there are different accounts; in other words, it had different sets of notes saved under different email accounts. My missing notes were saved under my icloud account, although I didn't consciously ever put the notes under any separate account. They were visible when I clicked "All Notes," too. It turns out that the phone had a different account set as the default. I changed the default on the iPhone, and there they were. I took screen shots so the notes are saved in my photos, too. This was a lot easier than checking through a lot of backups. I hope that helps. I will post this on a couple of threads I see in Apple communities. I see it's a pretty common problem. This might work on an iPod, too.

My brother and I share contacts. How can I separate them?
At the moment, we're stuck sharing contacts. Anytime I delete a contact, it gets deleted off his phone, which I learnt when I cleared out the contacts and he lost all of his. If I add one, also, it's added to his phone. How can I change this?
P.S. I own an iPod 4th Generation, and he has an iPhone.Okay. I tried resetting my iPod, as well, and that didn't do anything. Is there any chance that wiping my iPod would clear away the contact list?

HT204053 I lost my contacts. How do I recover them?
I lost my contact information. How do I recover them?
Before doing a restore of a backup (which is your only hope of getting them back), can you tell us how they were lost (accidentally erased, device broke,...)? And how recent is the backup (either to iTunes or icloud)?
