What in the world is the home button? I cannot remember the passcode from when I updated and now I can not get into my IPad. It says to hold down the home button so I can get back to the original factory settings. I can not even fet the icloud backup to work.

I have locked myself out of my iPad, I'm new to all this. I have forgotten my password, and tried all that I think it could be, but to no avail. I am following instructions on how to change it, and the instructions are as seen...I am confused. I know the on off button top right of iPad, but the Home Button, which one exactly is that? Trust me to get in a muddle...

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

The screen is completely black and won't do anything. I have tried charging it over night and nothing happened. It was never near water. It's possible that Fiona doesn't know what you mean. I don't.
However, I wonder if you mean the small circle (that isn't metal) at the top of the screen.
That's a camera.
The only thing at the bottom of the iPod is the Home button - there's nothing underneath it. You can see in the picture, a recessed circle with a printed grey square inside it - the Home button.
(I have noticed that pictures of the 2nd gen Touch - which I own - do not show the small (also not metal) circle at the top left above the screen. It's a light sensor.)
So if your iPod does not look exactly like the one in the picture, can you post a picture of yours, with this small metal circle thing too?

The home button on my ipod touch 4th generation, that i have had for a year now, is jammed. When i go to click it to go to the home screen it doesnt push in. I am not sure how it happened because one moment i pressed it and it was fine and the next it somehow got jammed. I bought this iPod mid-March, I've only had it for a little less than 5 months. I bought it at Best Buy, I don't know if that matters or anything- I have a geek squad and apple warranty. I'm only nineteen years old and this was my first real big purchase and I'm very disappointed. I've had other iPods before and never had any issues with them, my last one lasted from 2008 - 2013. I take very good care of my iPod Touch, never dropped it or anything of the sort and I keep it in a thick case. This iPod worked fine up until recently. First the home button became unresponsive, I had to activate the assistive touch because I use this iPod for school work. I was about to take my iPod into Best Buy so they could take a look at it and see if there was anything they could do before I contacted apple, but now my iPod is completely dead. It won't respond at all. I had to disconnect the charger because the iPod screen was getting hot and it wasn't charging. It's been disconnected for a few hours and the screen still feels hot. I'm really concerned, especially with recent news reports of handheld devices overheating and burning people or even exploding. Will the apple warranty cover this so I can get a new iPod? What are my options?

Has the home button worked in the past, or is this been something that hasn't worked for some time? The only way to reset the device is with the sleep/wake (power) and home buttons together. Without it, you would have to wait until the battery dies and then plug it in to try and reset it. The Home button is used for several user troubleshooting steps. Without it, you cannot perform a reset, put the device into recovery mode, or place it in DFU mode. You need to get the home button repaired.
