I have an iMac, running a 2011 OS X Lion 10.7.5, I ccnot locate Airplay to allow me to mirror to my Apple TV, can I install Airplay?

Airplay requires OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  If you have a mid-2011 iMac you can get it by buying it for $20 from the Mac App Store.

  • Installing Leopard on an iMac G5 currently running Panther!

    HI,
I heard a rumour that I might not be able to install Leopard on my iMac G5 currently running fine on 10.3.9 Panther, at least, not before I install Tiger. Is this true? I had hoped I could just buy Leopard and install that. Surely I don't have to track down a copy of Tiger and install that first?
Only reason particularly for upgrade is have bought some new iPods and they won't work with Panther :-(!!
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Just install Leopard directly. I suggest an Archive and Install and then migrate your stuff back. Many old apps and programs will not run with Leopard. Sherlock, to name one. Also be careful of your 3rd party apps. Some have been trouble.
Use SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to make a full bootable backup of Panther and then test it by booting into it. You then have the best of both worlds - a dual-boot system with Panther and Leopard.
If you partition your external drive for Panther in a small partition and leave the rest for TimeMachine backups, you are really set.
I have my external TM drive with Tiger in a small partition. It boots and once and a while I run it to keep it from getting lonely

Hi, I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) on mac pro. can i update to Os X Mavericks? thanks

We don't know a thing about your hardware, so we really cannot answer. See below.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

  • HT1152 Hi, we have just got our new replacement desktop mac with mountain lion. We had a G5 that was irreparable. Now we are looking to see where we can put in our cd's as we just popped them into the side on the G5 but no joy here !

Hi, we have just got our new replacement desktop mac mountain lion osx 10.8.2,  as the G5 was irrepairable. Now we can't find where to put our discs ?!? Have they now done away with being able to burn discs and put software discs in now and just rely on downloads ?

Have they now done away with being able to burn discs and put software discs in now and just rely on downloads ?
Yes. There is no Superdrive. You cannot play DVDs or CDs.
You will need to buy an external DVD player/burner. Almost all will do the job, just make sure you can connect it, as your iMac does not have Firewire or USB2 (USB3 is backwards compatible).
Or there is of course the expensive one from Apple.

  • Aperture crashes on Launch on iMac middle 2011 Mac OS X Lion

I recently purchased a new iMac 21,5" i7 8 GB with Mac OS X Lion. Then I installed Aperture 3.1.3 via App Store after uninstalling it on my old iMac.
Every time I try to launch A3 it crashes and a crash report pops up.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall always via App Store, but to no avail.
    No plugin installed
Note that Aperture works/worked flawlessly on a white MacBook middle 2009 with Mac OS X Lion and on my old iMac middle 2006 with same OS(Lion)

Same problem but I do not have any way of getting the files from another computer.
Is there any other way of solving the problem

  • Can I install Tiger on my iMac slot loader running OS 8.6?

I'm keen to upgrade my iMac DV bondi blue slotloader running OS 8.6 to Tiger so I can take advantage of wireless networking. Do I need, say, OS 9 first? or can I just go to Tiger directly.
Also - does anyone have experience of putting a new OS on an old machine - is it actually worth it or am I asking for trouble?

    Hi Macnabbs,
yes, you can install Tiger on your computer. However, you will have to upgrade to at least 9.1 (better 9.2.1: ) before that, then upgrade your firmware and install at least 256 MB RAM (better: 512 MB). Also make sure you have at least 5 GB of free hard disk space! MacOS X needs a minimum of 1.5 GB of free hard disk space at all times in order to run properly.
The short version goes like this:
    0. Confirm your Mac meets the minimum hardware requirements: Built-In firewire, 256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended), 5 GB free hard disk space (System Requirements)
    1. Update to 9.2.x: Mac OS 9: Available Updates
    2. Upgrade your firmware: Mac OS X: Chart of Available Firmware Updates
    3. Download the Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Combo update: Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Combo
    4. Unplug all peripherals but the original Apple keyboard and mouse.
    5. Install Tiger
    6. Repair permissions before and after an update!
    7. Apply the 10.4.5 Update
    8. Repair permissions before and after an update!
    9. Run software update from the Apple menu.
    10. Repair permissions!
    Keep the order!
If you cannot select your hard disk as a destination volume and your computer is quite old this article might help:

    Good luck!

  • I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule. Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I purchased a Mac book Pro in Aug 2012 with lion and have upgraded to mountain lion. I currently am looking to install the segate 750 gig hybrid drive. I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Sorr if this sounds redudant.. Thank you in advance

Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP.  Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear.  Select the 'restore' icon on the right.  When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility.  Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.
    Ciao.

  • No longer can mirror desktop on Apple TV 3

    Hello,
I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Apple TV 6.0. For the longest time I was able to mirror my desktop and vlc player onto my tv through ATV. Now the only way to send audio or video to the screen is through iTunes. Is this an Apple change to make you use iTunes and not be able to view my desktop and use another player? I tried searching the forum and I kept running into people with an older mac and just old posts. I have an Early 2011 but could mirror before. I have AirParrot, but I like just using the AppleTV since I didn't have to depend on another App. Thanks for any help.
    Jason

ATV3 lets me only buy/rent movies or shows. Is this really true?
Also, no volume control on the remote. What a joke!
That's correct, no option to purchase music.
How many other devices have the ability to turn the volume up/down from the DVD player, set top-box etc.
