HT203167 got a new mac pro, went to sync in 20 songs from i phone, only one got there. my phone is saying all 20 are on i cloud, any ideas?

I recently had my Dell crash, I had hundreds of songs lost, but did have roughly 30 songs that I had bought on I Tunes on my I Phone.  I bought a new Mac Book Pro, went to sync in my I Phone to the MacBook Pro to get those 30 songs.  Only one song went through.  Any idea of how to get the rest?  I know that when I had my I Phone, I repeadately forgot my I Tunes password and had to make new ones, don't know what my username was, I do now.  Also, I bought the majority of those songs with a different I Phone than the one I currently have.  Any advice would be appreciated, the last four on my credit card is 8514

How exactly was the music transferred to the new computer?
The correct way is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  If it was transferred properly there are no issues with syncing to the iOS device.

I  have a new Mac Pro computer and have migrated my files from my older computer to the new computer. In trying to open a Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive  I keep on getting the message "lightroom cannot use the catalog named " " because it is  not writable and cannot be opened. I have fixed all the "permissions" and yet it will still not open. How do I fix this?

    Hello Forum Members,
I figured it out. You have to select  the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on  "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

Why don't you just restore the to your pc from your most recent backup? You'll get the warning about erasing the media on the phone, but since you'll have all of your media and apps restored from backup, you shouldn't have much of a problem.

  • Can a genuine Apple European cord for the new Mac Pro and the Thunderbolt display be ordered from Apple?

The title says it all. When I move to Europe I know I can use adapter plugs, but I would feel more secure, considering the cost of my Apple equipment, using Apple European power cords.
So, is it possible to order these parts from Apple?

The computer-end will be a fairly standard IEC-13 plug:

  • Mail receives but can't send in new Mac Pro!

    Hi
I just received my Z0G1, MAC PRO. I bought AirPort Extreme but my Mac Pro and my old G4 are plugged in with an Ethernet cable because they don't have wireless cards yet. While my G4 can send
and receive mail with Apple Mail my new Pro can't send. Since I never had AirPort Extreme I probably messed up the settings which I found very confusing, or the Mail set-up in the new Mac Pro. I copied the Mail settings from my old G4 still no outgoing mail in the new Pro. Please help so I can send mail with my awesome Mac Pro. Thank you for all responses!
    W.W.

Strange coincidence but I just had this problem myself. I worked for hours yesterday to be able to connect to my internet providers SMTP server, to no avail. Today i called the provider and everything was exactly as they said it should be. The truly odd thing was that connecting to their server from another boot disk, with the exact same settings, it got through just fine.
Finally this morning, knowing that all settings and info in my account set up were correct, I opened Mail and the Connection Doctor window.
Someone said the definition of insanity was doing the same thing time and time again expecting a different result. I've found this is just not true concerning my computers.
In the Connection Doctor window, every time the account would show as Red again (not getting through), I kept hitting the "Check Again" button. On about the eighth attempt, of trying for at least two minutes each time, it finally got through and it's up and working again.
Why it finally succeeded then and not the many, many times I tried it this morning and yesterday, I don't have a clue. Demon possession is my best guess.
But if you're absolutely sure that your settings are correct give it a try. Keep hitting "Check again" and hopefully you'll get through a lot sooner than I did.
Update: Since the forums went down while I was writing this I have the opportunity to add more.
I just checked Mail again and noticed that yet once again I couldn't get through to that SMTP server. So once again I hit Check Again a few times, and it worked again. MobileMe seems to be balking a bit too.
Sure wish I knew what was up with this. Gmail works like a dream.

  • New Mac Pro (late 2013) crashes / freezes while rendering or editing in Premiere Pro CC

We recently purchased a new Mac Pro desktop (Late 2013, 16GB memory, D700 Graphic Card, 2.7 GHz -12 Core, OSX 10.9.3) and we are running Adobe CC on it. When using Premiere Pro CC (7.2.2) I am having major issues while rendering and editing. About 50% of the time when I try to render it starts off real fast then just freezes. This happens in Premiere and Media Encoder. Sometimes I can just Force Quit Premiere or Media Encoder and other times I have to do a hard restart on the entire computer because the entire computer freezes. The computer will also occasionally freeze whenever doing simple editing or stacking layers. The  computer will also just decide to suddenly stop and restart when editing or doing simple tasks like browsing the web. Additionally there has been several times if the render does finish, the final video will have digital glitches throughout the video. I have to redo the render once or twice and it will finally be fine. This all is happening several times a day. This never happened on our previous Mac Pro, but we were not running Mavericks. I used Migration Assistant to transfer from old computer to new computer. So I don't know if this is an a problem with the actual Mac Pro, Mavericks, graphic card or Adobe? But right now I am very frustrated as you can imaging spending all this money for a computer that has been giving us more issues than our previous computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Urgent Issue New Mac Pro (Im going CRAZY)

I recently purchased a MAC Pro with the following specifications:
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: DUAL 2.26 GHz
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
    Memory: 6 GB
    Graphic Card:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
and I seem to be getting very slow results in Motion. I have an IMAC with motion and it is able to process and playback faster than on my MAC PRO.
FCP is a thousand times faster but I am mainly working with Motion.
Also when I am on the internet and looking at some websites with Flash I notice a slower results with the MAC PRO
I am guessing my issue here is with the Graphics Card..
But How WHAT? I am using a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (I know its not super fast but faster than that on my IMAC)
Is there some type of control of allowing me to use more of the graphics card? I just am wondering if the graphics card is being maximized and if it is what does this mean? I know that I could buy another NIVIDA GeForce GT 120 but will my system be able to use them both. I am using Leopard and I know that the software like motion and even leopard are limited to how much of the graphics card may be used.
    Ahhh
    Please help!!

First, what versions of FCS/OS are you using on your i-Mac and what versions on your new Mac Pro?
Second, Motion does not like working with more than one card installed, however, I have two 2400HD cards installed and have no problems with motion (FCS 2). Some believe the two card problem is with Plugs, not Motion. I tend to agree.
Third, there is a known problem with Flash player in both Macs and PCs. I answered this question yesterday on this dissucussion board. You need to uninstall all traces of Flash player and then reinstall the latest player. The uninstaller, instructions and info about the problem is on the Adobe support page.
Post back with the info from my first comment and we'll go from there.

  • How to get Lion 10.7 on a new Mac Pro 6,1 (Early 2013)?

    Hi everyone,
I'm considering an upgrade to the new Mac Pro (6,1 -- Late 2013, i.e. trash can Mac).  It's a huge expense and pivot in terms of hardware and workflow for me.  But one thing I'm trying to exclude from the equation is having to upgrade my OS.  I have a lot of third party software that I'm afraid will bug out on 10.9 (or 10.10 depending on when I purchase this).  I've been humming on Lion 10.7.5 for some time and would like to keep it that way.
I had the thought of running my Boot Disk to a Bootable backup drive via something like Carbon Copy Cloner.  Then, upon purchase of the new system, boot from that external drive, re-partition the internal SSD on the Mac Pro, and run that boot disk back over to the SSD.  Any reason why this would not work in any one's opinion?  Has anyone actually tried this yet?
    Thanks all!

Actually just had a thought.  Prior to purchasing a new Mac Pro, what if I backed up my Lion 10.7.5 boot, then upgraded my current boot to Mavericks.  Then upon purchasing the new Mac Pro with Mavericks already on it I could just do what I previously mentioned --- run the boot over to the SSD.  Then I don't have to re-install any software.
    Thoughts?
You won't be able to boot Lion on a new Mac Pro.
If you migrate your info from the old computer, it will not take the OS stuff.

  • How well does a new Mac Pro work with Adobe Premiere CC 2014

I'm trying to spec out a new Mac Pro so I can edit 4K footage from a RED camera. I currently edit using Premiere CC 2014. I've heard all kinds of bad stories with the new Mac and Premiere and was wondering if anyone has had a good experience. These are the specs I'm looking at for the mac. Thanks in advance.

Those AMD Dxxx and drivers as well as it may take a product cycle for Adobe if they are interested in the 6,1 customer base.
Dual AMD PCIe 7xxx and above even in dual setups, or of course you can throw one or two nVidia GTX 7xx into those silver "oMP" 2009-2012s (the 2008 just lacks good decent PCIe GPU performance with good graphic cards).
Also the way the nMP will 'share' and throttle to limit itself to 450W and its thermal design so that both GPUs and the processor are not both given full reign (they do when running Windows 8.1 natively - 8.1 because that is the "oldest" version supported with drivers and booting via Apple).

  • Migrate old G4 to new Mac Pro

I'm helping a customer set up a new Mac Pro. They have an old G4 and would like to migrate Photoshop and Illustrator files to the new system.
I'm aware of the Firewire cable + Target Disk mode, and I know it could be done over ethernet as well.
I'm wondering about simply opening up the G4, taking the hard disk out and putting in an empty bay on the Mac Pro. Obviously we wouldn't try to boot from it (it has Tiger) but my question is simply one of drive compatibility. Would the new Mac Pro be able to use the HDD from the old G4?
Just looking for painless, easy and cheap. I have replaced HDD many times so that's not an issue, I just don't know if it will work.
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

"...my question is simply one of drive compatibility. Would the new Mac Pro be able to use the HDD from the old G4?..."
No. Not cleanly at all. The Mac Pro's use SATA drives while the G4 would have IDE drives. They are different interfaces. You could potentially get an adapter, something like this to get your connections worked out. However, this issue is still going to be where to physically put the G4's drive inside the Mac Pro. An SATA drive would fit into a bracket, and simply slide right into all the appropriate connections (Power & Data).
But the adapter card you'd have to install to make the IDE drive work, will also prevent it from working as well. Hope that makes sense.
An alternative may be to buy an external Firewire enclosure, ready for an IDE (or "ATA") drive and put the old G4 drive there. Simple and clean - guaranteed to work.
An internal solution does not seem possible to me.

  • New mac pro and Sony DCR-DVD301

Just talked the boss into purchasing the new Mac Pro for work. I don't see my Sony DCR- DVD301 movie camera on the list of supported movie cameras, does anyone have any experience with this camera and IDVD or Imovie 08? Thank you in advance for your help.

    I assume you've looked at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306171
There is a DCR-DVD308 on the list. Perhaps this is an update of your camera.
You probably should ask your question over in the iMovie forum.

  • Bluetooth on new Mac Pro

    Hey all,
I just bought a new Mac Pro with bluetooth installed, but I'm having some issues. The system finds the bluetooth card and all the associated software (the bluetooth pref panel, the bluetooth menu, etc) seems to be functioning the way it should but the computer can't find any bluetooth devices.
When I try to set up a new device, and I've tried a keyboard, a mouse, and two different phones, I make the device discoverable and then BT set up gives me the message "no _ found. make sure your device is on and set to discoverable" or something to that effect. Is the card defective? Normally when the cards don't work bluetooth itself would show up as unavailable. Any ideas what's going on?
Mac Pro 2x3GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   4 GB RAM, RadeonX1900, Bluetooth card

The standard first attempt at "fixing" BT problems is to do a smc and pram reset (try these first).  But for mac pro's, if you are using a magic mouse say, about 3 or more feet, from the mac pro, you are most likely in for some continued aggravation.  That's because the BT antenna is hidden in the back of the mac pro (faraday cage) and the magic mouse BT, for lack of better words, $ucks.
Here's a thread on this subject:
Poor Bluetooth reception and jerky mouse
Basically it comes down to wiring your own external antenna in place of the internal one already there or using a BT USB dongle.  I use a dongle myself on my 2010 mac pro.

  • New Mac Pro. Do I need to create a totally new time machine backup?

I Just upgraded from a Mac Pro 1,1 to the new Mac Pro. On my old machine I kept work files on one internal drive and photos on another which were backed up with time machine sparse bundle on my NAS. Now, since I have a Pegasus2, the contents of those drives are now kept in two separate folders on a single volume. Is it possible to have time machine continue backups on these from where it left off, or will I now have to create a new backup?

    Per this:
    http://pondini.org/TM/4.html
    No since it says:
Yes, if it's big enough (see question #1).  Time Machine keeps track of which computer is which (by a hardware identifier, not computer name), so it will always keep its backups for each Mac separate from each other.
But you may prefer to back them up to different places, or via a network.  See question #33 for options, details, and cautions.
It is advisable, though, to partition an external disk that will be connected to your Macs into one volume for each Mac (see question #5 or #6 for instructions). You can't partition a Time Capsule's disk, but each Mac will have a separate sparse bundle on a Time Capsule, so it's not as big an issue.  See the pink box in question #33 for details.

  • New Mac Pro not shipping until Feb 13 !!!?

I just ordered a new Mac Pro this morning with the default options plus a Nvidia 8800 graphics card. My order status says it will ship by Feb. 13 to avive by Feb. 14 (I used overnight shipping). I understand that making a change can delay an order a bit but wow that is quite a delay. Anyone think it will ship early? I've never ordered from the online apple store and I'm not sure what to expect. I'm hoping that they are just being very conservative, if not this is going to be a long 5 weeks of waiting
    Thanks.

I just cancelled my order - I don't want to wait up to 5 weeks for my new Mac Pro.
I re-ordered with the stock configuration and also ordered a separate Apple supplied Nvidia 8800 GT which is now on the US site for $350 - this will ship later when available. I called Apple and they checked with an engineer and told me the 8800 won't work concurrently with the stock ATI card but that it will run with two 8800.
SLI in Bootcamp would be nice but I doubt two 8800s will support it. Has anyone heard of anyone getting SLI in a Mac Pro (OSX or Bootcamp)? I'm going to try the Nvidia and ATI together because I want to run 2 monitors with an optional TV for the occasional Front Row use. I'll keep this thread updated and let everyone know if it works - I don't always trust the info from any technical support department.
Does anyone know if two GPUs (i.e. two 8800s) will give a performance boost over one card in OSX with apps like Final Cut Studio 2?
