Unless you backup your data, follow these instructions.

Formatting means erasing, and you normally can't recover from an erase short of redownloading, or copying back from a backup.  For more on backing up and data recovery, read this link:

  • How can i buy music/movies from us chart?

I am an Indian user, i am unable to download music/movie from US app store? why? It says ur id is not valid? How can i download from US store? Pls help

The terms of use of the stores state that in order to buy from a particular country's store that you need to have an iTunes account in that country and physically be in that country (due to things such as licensing/distribution deals) - so if you are in India then you can only buy from the Indian iTunes store.

  • How do I delete music & movies from an iPhone 5

I have an iTunes match account and I've downloaded some movies and music to my iPhone5, now I would like to delete some of the movies to free up some space; how do I do this?

One way would be to restore your iPhone.  Using iTunes, sync your iPhone and then choose "Restore" on the right.

  • Lost my mac and had to format PC. How can I access all my data?

I setup Firefox sync on a macbook some time ago (I don't remember exactly when). I then added a PC laptop about a year ago and the 2 were syncronising perfectly. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, my mac laptop was stolen so I was left with only the PC. I have just been forced to format the PC due to numerous problems but assumed that I would be able to reinstall Firefox and re-sync all my bookmarks, etc.
However, on trying to connect to Sync, it kept giving me an account error and saying that it couldn't connect. I wanted to reset the password but saw that it would have deleted all the data on the server so didn't do this. I then tried to add a new account which it appeared to let me do using the same email address I had used before but I still don't have access to my bookmarks, etc. The mac had been backed up onto an external hard drive using Time Machine but until I can replace the mac, I am unable to access the hard drive as it is not readable by the PC system.
I'm desperate not to lose many years of bookmarks, I would have backed everything up separately had I known this was going to be an issue.
If anyone is able to help, give me any advice, suggestions, etc, I would be most grateful! Many thanks in advance!

Sorry, going to create a "new" account using the same username (email address) deleted your data from the Sync servers the same as if you had requested a new Password.
My advice is to ask a Mac-owner friend for help by the friend connecting that external drive to their Mac and accessing your Time Machine backups and then copying that data to a USB Flash stick. Either all your backup data, which you can pick thru; or have the friend look specifically for your Firefox bookmark related files.
'''places.sqlite''' = file where bookmarks are stored
    '''bookmarks-''yyyy''-''mm''-''dd''-###.json''' = bookmarksbackup files
''[year-month-day-count number of bookmarks in the file]''

The company I work for has given me an iPhone, but I haven't been able to download any apps. I've created an apple ID account, it claimed that it had been verified, but everytime I go to download something, it verifies again and claims there's an error. I've tried this now with 3 different emails, and the message reads: go to the iTunes support page. I've emailed Apple, and they were extremely unhelpful. I was given the most vague responses by Bidyut from the iTunes Store Customer service team. I would just like to be able to use this phone since I'm paying for it.

It might be helpful if you told us exactly what the error was... If you don't give us specifics, the best you're going to get is vague responses.

Thanks for that, it was really helpful.
Glad to hear that worked for you. While formatting an external drive with a Mac format is best if it will be used only with a Mac, if the files on the drive have to be accessible to a PC also, it's possible to format it in an exFAT format, which both the Mac and a PC can read from and write to. However, if you do that, do the actual formatting while the external is connected to the PC.

  • How do i back up files from mac to external harddrive

how do I back up files from mac to external harddrive not using time machine?

First format the external as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    Connect via Firewire.
If it is just a few files or folders you want to back up you can just drag and drop. Or you can use SyncTwoFolders to keep the backups up to date.
If you want to back up your entire start-up disk use SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner, both of which can make a bootable clone of your entire start-up drive.
You can Google for the download sites of these applications, or search here:

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.
    Rich

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

how do i show a movie from my mac to the television?

    Hello there, kojak100.
The following Knowledge Base article goes over how to sync content to your iPad:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
    This section may prove useful:
    USB syncing
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable and click the device button in the upper right corner. (If you are viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper right corner. The device button will then be visible.) Some tabs may not appear if you do not have corresponding content in your library. For example if you do not have any podcasts in your library, the corresponding Podcasts tab will not appear.
You can configure the different content types in each tab. For example, movies under the Movies tab.
To sync, click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

I need to recover deleted data from my iPhone 4S but don't have a recent backup. I thought by pressing sync on my macbook this would back up…but I was wrong. There are no backups on my macbook and the latest backup on iCloud was Jan 2012. My mum died in May and I had lots of text messages that I wanted to keep. I really want to get them back. Is there any way at all I can get that deleted data from the phone?

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • HT1338 How to go back to lion from mountain lion????

Plese explian, How to go back to lion from mountain lion?

Time Machine does not provide bootable backups. Therefore, this is not the solution.
If you bought Lion, you should be able to re-download it from the Mac App Store. (Sadly, Apple pulled the ability to actually buy Lion off the store). You should be booted to another volume other than the one you will be installing to. You may have to disable the installation on the disk you wish to move back to Lion. I'm not certain, but suspect that trashing the ML System folder would do the job. The Installer will probably notice the missing OS and allow the Lion install. If not, then you'd have to go to the root directory of that volume, make invisible files visible and trash the 'Kernel' files and try again to install Lion.
Ideally you can use the Time Machine backup to restore just about everything else. But you may find everything works fine after the install.
I beta tested 10.8 Mountain Lion and know that it had a couple remaining bugs upon release. That's what updates are for. I expect there will be a rapid release of 10.8.1 update via the Mac App Store. It may well be worth hanging in there with 10.8. It is most definitely an IMPROVEMENT over Lion, whose Finder bugs I absolutely hate. (But that problem may soon be solved with the 10.7.5 update coming soon).
If you look around the net you'll find there are instructions for creating a bootable Lion installer DVD or USB thumb drive as long as you have the Lion Installer on a hard drive. Here are a couple with illustrations:

  • I recently brought a new HP laptop and I downloaded the newly updated iTunes on it; however I have an old Aver laptop with iTunes version 10.7 on it or the one before iTunes 11 came out. How can I transfer my movies from the old version to the new one?

I recently brought a new HP laptop and downloaded iTunes 11 on it. My old laptop which is a Acer has iTunes version 10.7, I believe. I wanted to know, How can I transfer 18 movies from the old iTunes onto my new Itunes? It only shows the most recent two movies when I look at the purchases in my account. I had a lot of moves downloaded last year from the old version and would like some assistance on how to get all those movies into my iTunes 11 library. Thank you.

you should starting with copying the iTunes folder from your old laptop to the new one.
the iTunes folder is in your user profile Music folder.
it should go to the same location on the new laptop.
Provided that you have your media, music and movies in the default location, and you sign in to your apple ID and authorize your new computer (all in iTunes)
    you should have all intact.
    Post if any problems.
