5th gen ipod does not connect to mac desktop or itunes
My ipod does not connect with my desktop or itunes (ie when I plug the ipod in using the original USB cable nothing happens--no charging no recognition that it has been connected). My nano does work with the same cable so I know it's not that. I've followed the support instructions resetting, downloading the latest software and restarting. I cannot, however, restore since the first step of the instruction is to connect the ipod and wait for it to show in the source list in itunes. It is also interesting that when I use the car charger the ipod does charge and shows the charging icon.
Any suggestions?I guess i can lend my voice to the conversation. my ipod "locks up" when i connect to my computer also. i just updated itunes and have not been able to connect. there is no ipod folder on my computer when i search through ""finder". i have to "reset" it after i disconnect to continue to play it. i have done everything short of "restoring" due to i have over 3000 songs and i'm unable to back up. the manuel refers to a disk to update. i can only play songs, and recharge. need help to.

tell me what you mean and i will tell. i ask the guy in the shop to remove any viruses and put my files in order and also put winzip on, ad-ware se peronal and windows defender. and to install a usb2.0 pci card, so that i can put music onto my ipod faster. is this enough for you

I have already reset my ipod shut it off as well. I have upgraded Itunes and the ipod does not want to show up on Itunes anymore. It used to before but now it doesn't. How do I solve my problem?

ITunes error: "The file iTunes Library.itl does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file."
Every couple of weeks I get this iTunes error after connecting iPod Nano 6th generation. Then it deletes my whole iPod content. I am running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise with latest patches, iTunes 10.2.2.14 and McAfee antivirus.
I tried to reinstall QuickTime + iTunes, clean the system and then reinstall. But this does not work. I also tried to create a brand new library. But no success...

i'm importing AIFF files into itunes, converting those to AAC and deleting the original AIFF files. i tried to import an album of AIFF's and received a message that i didn't have enough hard drive space to import so itunes would import as many of the files as it could. i knew i'd get to this point and would have to transfer some files onto my hard drive. however, when i clicked okay, the computer froze. i restarted manually and received the following message after attempting to open itunes "the file 'itunes library 2009-12-06' does not appear to be a valid itunes library file. itunes has created a new itunes library and renamed this file to 'itunes library (damaged)'." i'm not sure why this happened and i can't find 'itunes library (damaged)' anywhere. i have all my music still i just can't get itunes back to the way it was. please help! thanks so much.
I'll try and make this as concise as possible. Was following another thread that was "archived" without a solution. I randomly will get the error message 1450 "itunes library does not appear to be a valid itunes library - renamed library damaged." I've done everything and I'm at level 2 with phone support. The fixes we've tried seem to solve the problem momentarily but a few weeks will go by and the problem happens again. I loose all my podcasts and have to reload all music. My daughters have a different user account on the same computer and it happens to them as well. We have tried only loading itunes music files and that doesn't fix the problem either. We've reinstalled many times. I have an internal additional hard drive where I store the music but I've tried installing and saving everything on my original drive and the problem happens that way as well. I've read many threads and those of us with this problem aren't finding any answers. Please Apple or someone help with this. I'm ready to change phones and music players.

Everytime I open iTunes lately...I get all my music thrown out of the library and this annoying message come up...The file “iTunes Library.itl” does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to “iTunes Library (Damaged) 4”. My computer crashed when I was using Itunes. I got everything up and running and got this message "The File “itunes library.til” does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your itunes library and renamed it to “iTunes Library (Damaged itl)” Everything loads up put in takes 10 min. then my music playlists are deleted everytime I turn Itunes on. The library file appears to have been corrupted. You say you use your external drive but is the whole library on it or only your media? No matter, you will have to rebuild the library file:

My iPod does not sync with my iTunes.
All of a sudden when I try to sync my iPod classic with my MacBook Air the iPod doesn't sync. I get the do not disconnect message, but the iPod doesn't mount as a device in iTunes. The iPod icon does show up on the desktop. I have tried all the suggested solutions on the Apple support page (reset, reload iTunes, etc.). Didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have an even older iPod that started doing the same thing occasionally. It may be that you have some bad sectors on your iPod hard drive. If you can get the iPod to mount in iTunes, you should do a complete restore. If it will not mount in iTunes you should try this:
Unmount the iPod from desktop.
Close iTunes.
Reconnect iPod. If iTunes does not open, great, go to next step. If iTunes opens, but iPod does not mount in iTunes, close iTunes.
Open disk utility. Click on iPod volume, then choose erase tab.
Choose Mac Os extended.
Ignore the warning that iPod won't work. You are basically reinitializing and reformating the hard drive.
After drive is erased/reformated, unmount the iPod.
Open iTunes
Reconnect the iPod. It should now ask you if you want to install iTunes, etc, etc. and you should be able to restore all your tunes. -
