Connect your Ethernet cable from your modem to your computer, power the modem off/30 seconds/on and wait until it's powered up, then turn on your computer.
If you get kicked off again like that by your IPS at regular time frames (and WiFi is good), it usually means there is a problem on your end.
1: Malware
2: Excessive or exceeding monthly bandwidth allotment (it is Oct 26th)
3: Unpaid bills
4: Insecure network (others doing bad things, malware)
5: P2P files sharing, illegal device online
6: Important ISP email wating your attention for something important
7: Broken device (like a defective router) or another issue. Could be a lose wire blowing in the wind and disconnecting.
Process of elimination, calling your IPS resolves many of them, get a new router/modem, then you focus on if it's your computer, the router or lines from your house to the pole. If all that's clear, and others are reporting the same issue, then the ISP will come take a look at the wires in the neighborhood, send a tech to your house to check the lines/connections.

Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443(press return/enter(you might have to tick and untick SSL for 443 to stick)).

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Why does my iphone keep getting disconnected from Wifi?

My laptop has no issue staying connected to my wifi, but my iphone 4 keeps getting disconnected. I connect to wifi then a few seconds later, it disconnects for some reason. My lapop doesn't seem to have this problem, but my iphone has been having this issue for some time now. I cannot load anything on my iphone because of this. I'm unable to go online for more than 3 seconds at a time, literally. HELP! I've resetted my network settings, forgot my network, and renewed lease on my settings, but I still haven't found a fix.

You are in a bad service area. Maybe you should think about switching carriers. Having bad service is not an iphone problem.

Keep getting disconnected from Xbox 360

Evening all
I signed up to BT Infinity around 2 months ago after having Virgin for 4-5 years. I eventually chose to leave Virgin after a month period where the Broadband was horrendously slow. I decided to go with BT Infinity as they seemed good for gaming. I play my Xbox 360 quite often and (other than the last month of my contract) never had any issues on Virgin.
The first 10 days with BT Infinity were brlliant, the Internet was quick and I didn't have any problems. Unfortunately, after 10 days I started to randomly get kicked from games, lose connection to my Xbox Live party, etc. After a lot of trouble shooting:
- Port forwarding
- Giving my Xbox a static address
- Changing my Wireless channel
- Disabling UPnP
- Wired connection to my Xbox
was still no closer to finding the resolution. Usually after getting disconnected I'll do a connection test and will get a moderate NAT setting. I do these tests randomly and I'm constantly changing from Open to Moderate. I can only assume this is the reason for my problem. I should also mention that this doesn't only happen on one game but all games.
After having no luck, I decided to do a hard reset and see if that fixed the problem. After doing this, I was able to play with no problems for another 5-6 days before it all started again. I've now reset my router about 5 times and the same thing keeps reoccuring.
I can only assume the router (HH3 Type A) is the issue as I never had any problems with Virgin. I've just got off the phone with BT support where they did a few checks and eventually came to conclusion that my broadband/router are showing no errors so it must simply be my Xbox (even though I told them about the previous 4-5 years of no problems). I did ask BT to send me out another router to see if that was the issue but they simply refused.
I'm at a bit of a loss what to do next, I'm hoping someone on the forums has experienced a similar issue and has found a fix.

With regards to the DSL light bradhughes, did the light only flash when you got disconnected? Everytime I look at the Modem/Router the lights all appear to be fine. I wouldn't be able to tell if it's happening when I'm disconnected though as they're in a different room to the Xbox.

Dvds keep getting ejected from the drive.

powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.4.2) Ever since I've upgraded to OS10.4.8 my combo drive ejects some dvds, specifically dvd+r discs. What gives with that? Any help or workaround will be much appreciated. The following is my info.

My PowerBook (Machine Model: PowerBook3,5) had the same issue when I first got it, over three years ago, and Apple declared it a faulty drive and replaced under Applecare.
I had the same problem earlier this year, just before my extended Applecare ran out, and it was the same issue - faulty drive.
The symptoms were - unable to read certain types of DVD (the machine would grind for a while, then spit them back out), including the Apple Hardware Test, but would readily read some other DVDs and all CDs.

I forgot to say: this sound like something that shouldn't have an impact (I remember when it was the second step on every article regarding troubleshooting OS 7!), but resetting the PRAM would help about half the time for a temporary fix

Is it safer to disconnect from the internet (DSL) when not in use?

I just got Verizon DSL service and I was wondering for security if it's safer to disconnnect from the internet (but keeping the router/modem on so that just the DSL LED is on) when I'm not using it to protect my computer from hackers and to protect the router/modem from being used by unauthorized people. I already set the router/modem to not broadcast the SSID (maybe disconnecting the internet would be overkill after that?) and I changed the Firewall settings to medium.

Just lock your router's Wireless end down with a WPA2-AES encrypted connection as the security (change from WEP or WPA if need be) and use a strong passkey on the Wireless network. SSIDs can still be sniffed out of the air but many people are unlikely to do that. The router itself has a Backdoor which allows Verizon to access it whenever the modem shows it is online (could be at boot, could be overnight, whenever) but otherwise, if you're afriad that there may be a risk of leaving the router on, I suppose it doesn't hurt to disconnect it. But, either way I would say you don't much to worry about. There isn't much for them to get, and if your computer is off it shouldn't be accessible. Wake on LAN is the exception but the router won't pass such packets in a general stance without being set up to do so.
I've had my modem and router on and connected for years and have ran all sorts of applications on the connection. There isn't much to worry about.

Why does my Dell Computer running Windows 7, disconnect from the ITunes Store when I try to purchase music?

I downloaded the latest ITunes and I get disconnected when I try to purchase music. The ITunes player will play my music but as soon as I try to access a song to buy it, the program fails. I have spoken with several Apple Techs and no luck. Tried several things listed on Apple's site, still didn't correct the problem.Does anyone have an answer to this?

You buy one and only one download.
It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
Certainly you did not update your ipod without making sure that you had transferred anything purchased on the ipod to your computer and included it in your regular backup copy of your computer.

It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? HT201210 I updated the ipad and when finished it asked me for a passcode. I tryed my password 3 times and now cannot get into the ipad. It says it is disabled.

I updated my ipod this morning and it worked fine. I never needed a password to use my ipod before this. I tryed to get back in and it asked for a PASSCODE. I tryed my password 3 times and now it just shows "ipad disabled"

Why is there an echo from the MP3 narration when I play back a Recorded Timing slideshow in Keynote?

I have an MP3 audio file across all slides in my Keynote presentation. Then I "Record Slideshow" to record the slide timings as I want them. Upon playback, there is a slight echo as if two tracks are playing. What have I done?

I have a Keynote Presentation that I've recorded Narriation for with an MP3 file in the beginning...it worked fine. I then used Tooble to download a youtube video. The first one (virtual tour) tuned out fine. The second youtube video (client testmonial) - echo lag of about a second or two. SUPER annoying. I move on to a video my compnay (Century 21) provided me & also feedback on that one. The final audio clip is of the century 21 jingle, which is an MP3. It sounds fine also.
What gives?
When I try and pull the volume down like you've suggested, the whole voiceover narrition goes away & it wants me to "edit" my show. I'm so confused. My voiceover is never echoy...just the two videos.

For the past 3 hours or so I keep getting disconnected from the internet! I'm downloading about 15GB of stuff from steam, is this the reason that I'm getting disconnected? Under BT's new traffic management policy?

Wireless Router WRT54G version 7. Connected computer gets disconnected from internet

I have recently installed a Wireless Router WRT54G version 7 for my home office purpose.
My home PC and my laptop are connected to it. Especially on my laptop, I have observed frequently getting disconnected from the internet. I need to power OFF the router and power it ON to get the internet connection restored

Access set up pageof router .... look for MTU ....change the size from 1500 to 1300 ....click save settings ....
Click on wireless tab ....change the channel to 11 .....click save settings ....
Go to advance wireless settings subtab ....
Beacon interval 75
RTS & Fragmentation threshold 2306...... click save settings ...
Click on status check Ip address & firmware version on the same & let me know ...

Can a wire disconnected from the CRT display cause the computer to crash?

My computer keeps on freezing up and also having kernal panics when I am using it. I have tried everything to fix the problem but nothing worked. Today, I shined a flashlight through the cover of the computer and found a wire that is disconnected from the CRT display. While I am using my computer, the display is working fine. No discoloration or anything. Can someone please let me know (if you know) that a wire disconnected from the CRT display is causing my problem?

It's really hard saying what you are looking at. Here's my thoughts:
Has the computer ever been serviced / dismantled?
If not, the wire may have always been like that from the factory.
Without seeing it, it's hard saying for sure.
It could be a "Tie" or something similar that just there to hold things in-place (like a zip-tie). It's not unusual to find actual wire used as a tie.
It could be a wire that was only used in specific configurations. Perhaps your system doesn't have the option that needed that connection. They may have used a standard wire-loom, and only used wires they needed.
It could be your AirPort antenna (used or not). I can't say since I cannot see it myself.
There's just any number of things it could be.
But, if the machine has been working, and not been opened, then that wire has probably been like that for a long time.
The only reason I could see for a wire to be loose now if it wasn't previously, would be if it had stress on it, and the solder connection just let go / broke.
Can you describe what it looks like in more detail? That might help someone identify it.
How does it run through the system? Can you tell what color it is? Is is coated or bare wire? Does it run along with the other wires? Does it look like it was attached previously? Is there a bare end on the wire? Does if have a connector? Etc.
Perhaps with some additional detail, we might be able to better advise you.
