Can I use my icloud email address as an apple id?

Are you sure?

"I noticed the following :
If you attempt to create an Apple ID which is the same as your @icloud email address from the online facility, it does not allow you (can't use an Apple associated email address as your Apple ID). However - if you start a fresh device - such as a new iPhone, iPad(must be mobile it seems), and then create an iCloud account and Apple ID from the prompts when setting up the mobile device, it IS possible to have your Apple ID and @iCloud email address as the same. I know because I just did it!
Unfortunately for me, the result I got above is not for one of my own ID's but a friends, and I would VERY much like to do the same - my current Apple ID is a completely different email address from my iCloud account. Trying to get them the same in my situation is a major bother - I think that if I wipe a device (such as an iPhone5 that is mine) and try to setup as I did my friend's device, then I will get a conflict because theiCloud email I have ALREADY exists. This is my worry and I will not attempt this until I get the new iPad 4 soon to test this.
There is an inconsistency here between the two methods of creating Apple ID's andiCloud accounts.
Overall in my opinion, the Apple ID system as currently available from Apple is not designed very well, and should be addressed."

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can log into Apple's services (such as iCloud et al) with your iCloud email address if that's what you mean.

Yes. An Apple ID can be any legitimate email address.

  • HT204053 Can I use an icloud email address as the primary email address for an Apple ID?

    Hi There
Can I use an icloud email address as the primary email address for an Apple ID?

Whenever you create a new icloud email it is an Apple ID, but if you previously had an Apple ID you cannot use the new email to replace the old one. You have to abandon the old accout and you will lose all the content you had with that account. But what I did was upload all my itunes to amazon cloud, these were the only purchases I had. I already bought books from kindle and I now rent movies from amazon instant video. Everytime I log in I use my icloud email and password. I just used it to sign in to support communities.
The notification that you posted about changing your Apple ID was present when I created my icloud email and made the change.

  • Can I use my icloud email address as my Apple ID?

    Hi,
I have tried searching for an answer to this but couldn't find one.  To me, it would seem like the logical thing to do.  The reason I ask, however, is that when you go to create an Apple ID it states the two criteria are (1) it has to be a verified/established email address, and (2) it cannot be an Apple domain.  I'm assuming 'iCloud.com' is considered a domain?
Can anyone advise on this, please?

You can't use a @me.com, @mac.com or @icloud.com address as an Apple ID because they are registered to an Apple ID. However, you can set them as the main Apple ID email account, but not as the Apple ID

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can't use @me.com and @icloud.com emails as an Apple ID because Apple doesn't allow that, but you can add it as a secondary mail address

  • Why can't I use my iCloud Email Address as my Apple ID?

Why won't Apple allow us to use their own @icloud.com domain for an Apple ID. This has upset me since the inception of MobileMe; it makes perfect sense that many people would prefer to use their iCloud email address as there Apple ID. We've all had MobileMe since day one, which is now iCloud; it's been several years, and I still can't do it. Having to frequently log in with an individual Apple ID & Individual iCloud account creates so much confusion, especially with my wife and parents.
I know this is an age old complaint, but it doesn't make it any less relevant. Is there a special way to change my existing Apple ID to my existing iCloud email address? If not, then why won't Apple allow it?
Please don't refer me to this article Change your Apple ID.

submit feedback about this so hopefully it gets changed https://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

  • How can I use my iCloud email address in iPhoto

If I try to setup my iCloud email address in iPhoto it wants me to log in with the email itself when the email address is registered with my Apple ID which is not the @me.com. If I try to setup the iCloud account with my Apple ID it sets up that email account.

    Hey chris.milne,
Thanks for the question. Yes, your iCloud account is definitely an Apple ID:
    iCloud: Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2570
The email address you use to access many Apple resources, such as the Apple Online Store, the iTunes Store, the App Store, the Mac App Store, and also iCloud features. If you’ve purchased products from any online Apple locations, or if you’ve turned on iCloud on any devices with iOS 5 or later installed, then you have an Apple ID.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Can I use an iCloud email address that's been deleted from another account?

There was one house account, mine, which is an old @mac.com address from way back in the iTools days.
I made a couple email aliases for my daughter when she was younger to use for school.
Now, she has her own iPhone.  I gave her another email address (hername @ att . net) so we could register her own Apple ID, and get the confirmation/activation email.
    With me so far?
So now, in order to use the Apple bells & whistles, you need an iCloud email.  When I try to create one, it says that both the @icloud.com addresses I tried are already in use.  (Trust me, they're unique to us.)
I made sure to delete the aliases from my main account, but I still can't use them.
My question is:  How long will it take to release those deleted aliases for use again?  If at all.
Off topic:  What happened to our old Support Communities login ID?  I had to use my Apple ID and now I look like a first-timer.  Is there a way to merge the old account into this one?

I don't think that's possible.  As mentioned here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a, "Aliases are not transferable. Only the iCloud account that created the alias can use it.  Once you create an alias it cannot be made into its own account."
Not sure about your second question.  You might want to post it over in the Using Apple Support Communities forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/using_apple_support_communities?view=dis cussions.

  • HT5621 Why can't I use my iCloud email address as an Apple ID?

I am totally bewildered! I have taken the plunge to leave Gmail, my primary email address and move to iCloud. The first thing I tried to do, was change my Apple ID email address. To my astonishment, while it allows gmail.com, it does not allow its own icloud.com. This means that I either, have to keep on with gmail as my primary address or create another one eg sky.com. What is going on? I simply want to migrate from gmail to icloud and Apple trip me up at the first fence. Any idea, what I can do? Why won't Apple, accept it's own email address?

When you start from scratch you can create an @icloud.com address and use it as your ID, but though it seems illogical you can't do what you ask. I don't know whether this is a technical issue.
However, I would suggest that having your published email address as your login is poor security. This used to be the case with MobileMe and there were quite a number of complaints from people who had found themselves locked out of their account because some idiot had tried to sign into their account several times without knowing the password. They then had to change the password in the ID and all their devices, and a couple of weeks later it would happen again.
This sort of nonsense sometimes arose through mis-typing, and sometimes because some idiot would become convinced that he owned the address and would keep trying to log in with it.
Of course, someone who knew your email address and felt malicious could render your account useless by keeping on doing this. I know all this sounds a bit extreme, and it is moderately unlikely, but these things do happen.
For best security, I would suggest creating a new free address somewhere with a garbage username which can't be guessed and is unlikely to be arrived at by accident. I know it's less convenient that logging in with your @icloud.com address, but you might like to think about the security issue here.

  • Why can't you use your iCloud email address for your Apple ID?

Why can't an iCloud.com email address be used to create an Apple ID?  Is iCloud email not to be used as a primary email?

You can if you create an new Apple ID at the time you create the iCloud account, and choose to create a new @icloud.com email address as your primary email address when creating the ID.  See Imp68's post here for an example of how you would do this on a Mac: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22283348#22283348.
You could not use your existing @icloud.com email address as it is already an alias for your existing iCloud ID; you would have to create a new one.

  • How can i use my aol email address to create apple id?, how can i use my aol email address to create apple id?, how can i use my aol email address to create apple id?

I'm trying to set up icloud account and it won't accept my current apple ID which is my aol email address.  I don't want to have to use a me.com address.

You will need to remove it as your rescue email : log into your account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com, select the 'Password And Security' section on your account's screen, and answer the two security questions that show - you should then be taken to another screen where you can change or remove your rescue email address.
Then try logging out of your account and then log back in and see if you can then use it as your primary email address.

  • Can I still use my iCloud email address if I delete it from my Apple ID?

My iCloud email address is listed as an alternative email address in my Apple ID. I want to make a new Apple ID with this iCloud email address as the primary email address. I want to make sure that I can retrieve my iCloud email address once I remove it from my existing Apple ID.

I would not suggest creating a new apple id with the iCloud email address if you have already made purchases with your current apple id.  The reason why is you can't merge Apple ID's so you will have to manage 2 apple id accounts with purchases on both accounts and in the end it gets very confusing and will eventually create a problem.
My suggestion is to just keep the current apple id account if you have already made purchases with it and convert that account into an iCloud account.
If you haven't made purchases with the current Apple id then don't worry about it.  You should be able to use the iCloud email address as an apple id (it should be an apple id already) even if it is an alternative email address for another apple id.
    Hope that helps.

  • HT201342 I would like to transfer an icloud email address from one apple id to a different apple id.  Is this possible?

How can I transfer an icloud email address from one apple id to another apple id?

It isn't possible.  If you need to use a different iCloud account with a different ID as your primary iCloud account, you can still set up your other iCloud address as a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, signing in with your ID and turning Mail to on.  It will be fetch rather than push email, however, as push is only supported in the primary account.
