HT204053 Me and my daughter are sharing the same Apple ID, how do I get a separate id for face time and not be part of her group chats

How do I have a separate address but still use the same Apple ID, so I don't have to share FaceTime or be part of her group chats

Just delete her or your account from a device (iOS: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch) in 1. "Settings > iCloud" (for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Backup, etc.) + 2. in "Settings > Messages > Send & Receive" (for sms/iMessage) + 3. in "Settings > FaceTime" (for FaceTime). Then set up a new separate Apple ID/iCloud ID in "Settings > iCloud" and then sign in and use your new account for all three services.
BTW you could still use and share one ID for iTunes and App Store purchases in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores" so that you won't have to purchase any content more than once.

Me and my daughter are using the same Apple id and we share the same iCloud account. I want to change her Apple id so that she will have her own icloud account and I will have mine.
    1. how do I do it?
    2. how do I  transfer her stuff which is in my icloud storage to her new icloud account once this one is created?
    thanks,
    Ari

To migrate her device to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos she wants to keep to her amera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow, then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If she is syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of the notes and email them to her so she can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in her new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create her new account and choose Merge to upload the data.
Once you are on separate accounts you can each go to icloud.com from a computer and delete the other person's data from your account.

That is not a good suggestion...

Everything that you have checked in your icloud settings will be shared between devices using the same Apple ID.  If you don't want icloud to share that information, then simply turn off that process under settings > icloud

I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me  from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I have this question too (0) Reply

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

  • We just got 2 iPad air today and Set up both with the same Apple ID, now I'm getting messages and FaceTime for my 13 yr old daughter.  Do I have to create a different Apple ID for her?

We just got 2 iPad air today and Set up both with the same Apple ID, now I'm getting FaceTime and messages for my 12 yr. old.  Do I have to set up a separate Apple ID  for her to avoid this?

It's a trust issue. You can set them up so you don't receive each other's messages as long as you each have your own email address.
The trust issue is the fact that either of you can change the separation at any time via Settings by checking the appropriate (inappropriate?) email address.
To be absolutely sure you can never receive each other's messages will require two Apple IDs.

  • How do I set up an email for face time and Game Center for my child's ipod

How do I set up an email account for my sons iPod so he can do face time and Game Center with friends?

I would create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. You have to do it in your mane if he is not yet 13.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then use that account for Settings>FaceTime and Gamecent
If yo want it can also be used for:
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive to allow him to Message
    - Settings>iCloud to allow him to have his own calendar and contacts
Continue to use the common ID for Setting>iTunes and App Stores

  • TS1474 Two iPhones sharing the same iTunes account - how do we create a new account for one of them now that both phones have been registered with the same account?

We have recently upgraded 2 iPhones to the 4S and are having difficulties registering with the same log in and passwords in iTunes.
How can we re-register one of them with it's own identity and avoid the same apps being copied o both devices?
We would like each iPhone to have it's own identity but use the same computer for backing up.

Hi, you will need to set up a new user account on the computer. The iTunes on this new user will be empty but you can download past iTunes purchases from the iTunes store

  • I would like to access both my iTunes and my husbands iTunes on the same computer.  However, we still want our separate logins for our devices (iPad, 2 iPhones) for purchases.  Is this possible?

Is there a way to have one computer hold both my iTunes account and my husbands iTunes account at the same time.  We do not want to log in and out, but want to be able to access both purchases on the same computer (songs, movies, etc).  However, we want to keep our accounts seperate for purchases on our devices.  Is this possible?

  • I transferred my iTunes library from one external hard drive to another and added more music on the same day. How do I get rid of my duplicate files without going through them one by one which would take forever?

Please help. I have transferred my iTunes library from one external hard drive to another plus added additional music now I have duplicates of the same music in many albums. How do I delete the duplicates without going through them one by one which would take forever? I understand how to get the "show exact duplicate" feature up on iTunes but, because they were added to the library on the exact day I can't seperate them I'm that manner. So each duplicate is right next to eachother in the exact duplicate screen.

  • Since updating iCloud my husband and my phone are sharing the same contacts. I was getting his messages and and him mine which we managed to change through settings but how do we delete the  contacts without deleting each other's.

There are 2 phones in my name. One my husbands the other mine. We have the i5 phone which worked very well before we updated iCloud a few days ago. Firstly both our messages and emails appeared on each other's phones and now I've noticed that we both have each other's contacts making a very long list on each phone and us both getting each other calls. I turned off the messages and emails in settings but can't remove the contacts. I tried deleting my husbands contacts from my phone but then they got deleted from his phone too. Any ideas anyone?

All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.

  • If two people are using the same apple account how do they show different names on airdrop

I'm trying to set up to user names for air drop on one Apple ID. It works for Messages and FaceTime but I can't find a setting for airdrop. It only shows the user name of the person with the Apple ID email

Not sure if you can. Look at these links.

  • HT203167 the only items showing up in my "Purchased" section are the songs i've purchased since i got a new phone but none of the songs i purchased on my old phone (which used the same apple ID). how do i get this stuff back?

these songs were bought using my old iPhone/on an old computer so it isn't possible for me to copy the files to another device. how do i find them?

    Hello jaggerseyes
I would check the purchase history to see the purchases. If you have any further questions about it, there is another article that will assist with getting back those purchases resolved.
On a computer with iTunes installed, click purchase history to have iTunes open and display your purchase history. You will be prompted for your Apple ID and password.

  • I have a Mac Book (2006) All my saved emails for two and a half years have the same date. How do I get the original dates back?

From the "date and time" I tried to drag the month and year to my menu bar. It did not stay, so I did it several times, but to no avail. I closed the window and went back to my Thunderbird email only to find that the date I tried to use became the date in the "date received" column of all of my emails from back to 2011. I changed the date a few days later, and then the date changed on all of my emails. I would like to undo whatever I did to the dates so that the emails show when they were originally received. I did manage to get "the order received" which helps a little, but I cannot see the original dates.
I have checked "Set date and time automatically" but it doesn't change the dates on my saved emails.

I at first thought it might be a Mac thing, but I couldn't find a solution. I realized that the date only affected my email, so then I thought it must be a Mozilla problem.
