HT2674 Boot failure Mac Book Pro 17 "

Hi,
my Mac Book Pro suddenly don´t start.
When pressing the power button the light in front light up for about two seconds, both fans inside start up and the system shuts down after a second - DEAD!
Forcing PW button down, same procedure but the fans are running and the stable light change into blinking after 5 sec, aprox 12 fast repeated blinks and the system is down.
Some guy at iFixit mention it could ba mal function in RAM, but in accordance to infor found here, the light has to blink steady about every second for that malfunction to be reported so I doubht thats the prob.
There is a boo failure, but how to cope with this?  I have tried to reset SMC and RAM (cmd - alt P + R)
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Kasper

If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

After Security updation of Windows 7 in Boot Camp (Mac Book Pro with Retina Display) on 13-Nov-2013, Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets are not working properly.
This is boot camp problem, because in other normal notebooks (e.g. SONY VAIO, Lenovo with Windows 7) the gadgets are working normally.
I am attaching the screen shot of Desktop Gadgets and Security updates of Windows 7.
    Kindly solve this issue ASAP.

Have you reinstalled the latest Boot Camp Windows 7 drivers, just in case Microsoft overwrote some of them during the Windows 7 security update?

  • Bootrom failure mac book pro 17

    Hi,
during a normal reboot my Mac Book Pro suddenly doesn´t boot.
Only short run on each fans, light in front light up for aprox. 4 seconds and it shuts down.
If I hold down the power button the light starts fast blinking for aprox 16 times and it shuts down.
Taking out all RAM it goes into a loop and a system sound - sounds really like a failure sounds every 6 second until I press the power button again for 8 - 10 seconds / same as hardware reboot or shut off the machine.
It seems like the machine has problem booting from ROM - yes, but what do I do with that?
    Thanks,
    Kasper

  • Boot Camp Mac Book Pro Can Boot to Win 8.1 but not Mavericks

My Mac Book Pro Mavericks partition is damaged and I cannot boot to it, I can boot to Windows 8.1 without any issues.    Disk repair did not fix the problem, any suggestions?   I also tried using Migration Assistant to from my iMac to the Mac Book pro, had no luck there either, since Migration assistant being run on the iMac could not find another Mac.

You can upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free. Just open the Windows Store in Windows 8 and you will see an option to download Windows 8.1 update. The update may take several hours.

  • Wake sleep failure mac book pro retina mid 2012

I have updated to OS X 10.10.1 and still experience wake sleep failures. The only time my mac book pro has recovered from sleep 100% was the period between purchase date and the first software update. I am somewhat annoyed that Apple has managed to break something that worked and has not managed to fix it over the last 18 months! Has anyone managed to hack around this problem?

i do experience the same. i use my mid 2011 macbook air in clamshell mode and when i put it to sleep with the display port cable still connected to my external monitor it reboots about 10 minutes later presenting me the sleep wake failure error. do you use an external monitor too?

  • 17-inch Mac Book Pro does not boot. No startup chime and no video.

    Hey guys,
My Mac Book Pro refuses to boot. Whether it's running off the power supply or on the battery, it does the same thing: I hit the power button, I hear the disc drive make it's usual sound, but no apple boot chime, and no video. It just sits there, blank screen and all. Last night in my frustration, I held the power button down for about 5 seconds and the light in front started blinking as if it was expecting a firmware update. I immieditely shut it off. I hope that didn't make the problem worse, but regadless it still has the same problem. I have a feeling my logic board took a dive. What's weird is, I was using it, it was plugged in, I left it for a bit, it went into sleep mode, and that was the last time it was on. It's as if I can't get it out of sleep mode. I've turned it on and off a dozen times, taken the battery out, etc.. And nothing. Any suggestions?

  • My Mac Book Pro (2010 - Snow Leopard) won't boot, or boot from safe mode.

Hi, a bit of back ground knowledge bout the situation first, I was visiting home to see my family for two weeks in the UK, as i am currently on an internship in Dubai.
A few days ago (one day before i flew back to Dubai from the UK - Thursday 10/07/2014) I noticed out of the blue that my Mac book Pro (i believe early/mid 2010 model) suddenly started running extremely slow. (prior to this I had be using it fine, using an array of programs like Safari & Photoshop that i know usually slows down the Mac, but unlike what I would usually experience, this was pretty much a complete freeze for 5 minutes at a time every time i tried moving my mouse/closing a program or even clicking on something. I decided I would close everything and give the computer a rest. This took a long long time, I had to force quit many of the programs open, then once going to the drop down menu to shut down the laptop it wouldn't shut down. So after a long time of waiting to shut down I decided to force it to shut down by holding down the power button.
I left it for the evening, and then decided to turn on the laptop so it was 'on and working' for my flight back to Dubai as there had been 'stricter airport measures introduced in the UK for flights abroad' and there was a rumor that you had to prove that all electrical devices can be turned on when and if asked by airport security. after a long time it finally turned on and loaded the home screen, it had a long period on the grey apple screen with the turning gear. However still when turned on the problem of being extremely slow - freezing for 5 minutes every time i would click a program or something on the mac, like the drop down menu with the shut down option for example - still persisted. As I had to fly home the next morning (Friday 11/07/2014) I just closed the laptop lid like i had down thousands of times before over the past 3-4 years, packed it in my hand luggage and and went to bed. I flew back to Dubai.
Over the next few days (Saturday 11/07/2014 - Monday 14/07/2014) I used the laptop sparingly a it was super slow, but i did manage to watch the second half of the world cup runners up match between Holland & Brasil. I then went on to attempt to use the safari the on the Monday night, but it was too slow to really do anything, e.g. i couldn't even really look at the BBC website as it was too painfully slow!
This is when I decided to look up why it may be working so slow via my iphone.
    So I shut it down,
I looked on forums and support ages and first thing they recommended was a 'safe mode boot up', so I decided to boot up in safe mode. This is where the problem seems to worsen. The Mac book pro would turn on to the grey apple screen and the progress bar appears, it begins to fill up but then reaches perhaps 20-30% then suddenly the laptops fan seems to go into over drive, making lots of noise when before this moment as it tried to boot up it was silent, then it just turns off.
I decided to retry booting up without holding down shift (safe boot mode), but it returns to the grey apple screen with the progress bar again, as if it was in safe mode even though I had held down shift. The same problem happens, its silent as the bar fills until abut 20-30% then it seems to 'overheat' and then turn off again.
I tried to boot it up again and again, both 'normally' without holding down shift, and 'safe mode', but the same issue arises.
So i turned to the forums and help pages again, and there was a mention of a PRAM reset. So i tried booting it up this time but holding down 'CMD + ALT + P + R' on the moment of the first chime, then as normal with a PRAM reset it chimed twice more before I let go of the keyboard. The progress bar again appeared on the grey start up apple page, and this time reached roughly the same 20-30% mark, but without overheating or making a fan noise, it then seemed to restart the progress bar a second time. This time as it reached the 20-30% it would again over heat and then instantly turn off.
I then decided to do a Hardware test. So i turned on the power and held down 'D', this successfully brought up the Hardware testing window, I did a regular test and within a few minutes it said there was no hard ware issue. Not convinced i decided to do an detailed/advanced hardware test which took alot longer. This time after a few minutes it started to make fan noises and 'overheating noises' however completed the hardware test and again said there was no hardware problems. I opted for the 'shut down' option on the screen instead of 'restart'.
I then decided to try and boot it up normally again, and the progress bar appears on the grey apple start up screen, it again reaches 20-30% then turns off.
I've exhausted my knowledge of what to do, and all the forums seem not to give the answer i'm looking for. It sees like no one has had the EXACT same problem i'm experiencing. Also being in Dubai for a further 7 weeks, I can't take the Mac book pro to an apple store, and I do not have any of the install DVD discs ect with me to try booting from DVD disc install.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me on what I could try next? I'd be hugely grateful! Please reply below or email me.

Give your previous partition layout, you cannot install Windows via Bootcamp, unless you are willing to give up all your extra partitions and go back to EFI, OS X and RecoveryHD only configuration.

    1. Windows installer will not work and you will end up with driver issues.
    2. No.
    3. You cannot, but if you could, the Apple Bootmanager would be your Boot Manager/Loader.

When will Windows 8.1 be supported on Boot camp 5? I have a new Mac book Pro 2013 and cannot install. Do I return the Windows version and try to download 8.0, or wait it out until it is supported? New to Mac's.

  • Mac Book Pro locks up after initial boot-up

I have a late 2011 Mac Book Pro, 2.4 GHz running OS X 10.9.2.  During normal operations I am typically using  4-5 GB of RAM.  I have a 750 GB hard drive with 671 GB of free drive space.  After a normal boot-up the computer completely locks-up/freezes and I get the pin wheel indefinately.  I have tried the following items so far in an attempt to rectify the issue:
    1) Reset NVRAM
    2) Verfied that the issue remains with and without external keyboard, mouse, network cable and thunderbolt display attached.
    3) Verfied that there is no disk in the optical drive.
    4) Started up via the Recovery drvie and ran all disk utilities (repair disk, verify disk, and repair permisisons).  Both repair disk and verfiy disk came back without any issues noted.  Repair premissions came back with some iBooks errors that it said it fixed.  This has not corrected my problem.
    5) Resinstalled the entire OS from the disk utility in Recovery Mode.  This seemed to correct my problem for almost a week but the same issue started happening again.
It should be noted that this issue started within a day or two of loading the 10.9.2 update.  The machine appears to run fine from Safe Mode, which I am using now to write this message.  I was also able to use Safe Mode to run a web conference at work this morning with out any additional issues so I can't believe it is a hardware issue.
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
