as above really...
i have itunes on my pc at home. can i use my ipad when on holiday to listen to my tunes from my pc without having to have them downloaded or synced onto the ipad using up memory? i know i can do it at home over my wfi network but what about if using another wifi network on holiday for example in a rented cottage...

You cannot. Your library is on that computer. If you do not have that computer, then you do not have the library.
Have you failed to maintain a backup copy?
If so, not good, you can redownload some iTunes purchases in some countries. Click Purchases under Quick Links in the iTunes store. -
Home Sharing Failed to xfer iTunes Library - how do I start over?
Trying to "copy" iTunes Library from 1 Windows 7 (64bit) to another Windows 7 (64bit) computer. Followed instructions to use "Home Sharing" but the result was a complete disaster. Target Library wound up with every Playlist duplicated - and most Playlists were "empty" (ie: no songs at all).
I deleted all the Playlists - and went to delete the actual songs (only in the Target Library), but then it said something about "hiding" the selected songs from iCloud (which I don't want or use).
Is there a way to delete the Target Library - and start from scratch? The Source Library is fine/intact.Stop attempting to use Home Sharing, I've yet to see anyone use it successfully to transfer their library.
Delete all the "crap" off the new computer (the ENTIRE iTunes folder on the new computer).
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer. Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer. -

Happy to help you :) go to seeing and than general or settings than iTunes store it's for sure in settings but you may want to set it up on your computer in which case it's (windows) edit > preferences (Mac) iTunes preferences

2 atv's both have home sharing enabled but one asks to turn on home sharing on my pc, but it is enabled on pc so I can only use one at a time to watch movies from my computer
Both atv,s are on the same network, they are wirless and the computer can see them and they are named different.
what ever one i switch on first gets to stream from my computer and the other one asks for home sharing to be switched on, then if i switch both off and start the other one first it gets to stream and the other one which worked asks for home sharing to be turned on. i have hidden all functionality, netflix etc as these are for my 7yr old kids. -
I've done all of the above but I'm still displaying the message: to access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on home sharing in iTunes on your computer using ....... My home sharing is on ???? Confused, I've restarted and reset Apple TV with no change
You mention doing all of the above, what would that be exactly?

I just bought my apple tv yesterday and SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, I CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time! -

Sorry, not sure if I understand what you are asking.
Are you thinking of moving your iTunes / Media Folder from your Mac to the Time Capsule?
If you do this...when...not if...the Time Capsule drive has a problem....you lose everything because you have no backup for the iTunes library.
A much safer plan would be to add an external hard drive to your computer and move the iTunes library there.
Then, if you are using Time Machine for backups, it will back up both your Mac and the hard drive. Now you have "originals" on one drive and backups on another.
In order to stream music from the iTunes library, iTunes must always be open on your computer.

I have 2 apple tv's but my playlists only show up on one; can I get them to show up on both? I have home sharing turned on and itunes match.
If you are attempting to share to both at the same time, you can't.
Are you selecting the second AppleTV in home sharing options on the MBP. Are all devices signed in for Home Sharing with the same AppleID?

Mac mini 2014Problem solved – While looking elsewhere on the Internet, I ran across an article where a guy in Russia found that his security code for the credit card entered on his iTunes account was missing.
After checking, I found my security code was missing as well. After I reentered my credit card security code, I was able to log on to the iTunes Store and also able to turn on Home Sharing.
I HOPE The Apple iTunes accounts were not hacked into. That could be a reason for the security codes beinging erased by Apple. -

I have to keep restarting AppleTV to see Home Sharing on Windows 7 iTunes
I used to have all my media on a NAS drive with modified ATV2 so I can access my movies on there. This worked absolutely perfect, except I was annoyed I could not store and play iTunes purchased movies from the NAS. So I decided to factory reset ATV back to normal with latest update (6.0.2) and invest in a Windows 7 computer (Acer Revo) so I can leave it on permanently with iTunes running so I can access all my movies, TV shows and pics on all my devices anytime in the house without having my Macbook always on. Now I have problems.
Multiple times a day, I go to Computers on Apple TV and it either says "there was a problem connecting to the computer" or to "turn home sharing on on the computer". The computer is running fine. I can see and access it on the network using my computers and other devices. iTunes is running. Home Sharing is On.
To fix it I have to restart Apple TV and then Apple TV can connect OK.
The AppleTV is connected via network cable to the router, and so is the server (no wifi). The router is a Technicolour Gateway.
I have disabled the Firewall on Windows 7, still same problem.
The server, and AppleTV both have static IP addresses assigned.
iTunes on Windows 7 is version 11.1.3.8
ATV2 software is 6.0.2
I do hope I can fix this, because I want to do it Apple's way, and have spent all this time moving my library to iTunes. But if I cant I have to modify ATV2 again and not use Home Sharing. I also wanted to purchase an ATV3 for my bedroom, and for the kids rooms, but I am not going to if this problem persists.
P.S. I do not believe I should have an Apple computer with iTunes on, this should work seamlessly with iTunes on Windows 7. So dont know what else I can do.
P.P.S. I can see this is a common problem, but I started a new thread because everyone else says they have to restart iTunes or the router to fix it. I do not have to do this. I have to restart AppleTV. So I wonder if its an AppleTV issue and not a router/iTunes/server issue.
ThanksI also get this problem on my iPad, so probably not related to the AppleTV. On the iPad I restarted Airport Extreme this time, and then the iPad saw my Home Sharing.
So to recap, restarting the router or Airport Express allowed the iPad and AppleTV to see Home Sharing. Restarting AppleTV also allows AppleTV to see Home Sharing.
So does anyone have any idea?
