HT3910 I need a recovery disk for my Mac Book Pro for IOs 10.6 Snow lepoard

I have lost my revocry disk for my MAC Book Pro laptop.  How can I obtain a new one

You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You may also purchase replacements for the two discs that came with the computer.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Mac Book Pro for school. What do I need?

Hi, i want to buy a mac book pro for school(grade 10 academic) and for general amusement. I will be doing graphics(got adobe cs5.5) video editing, word processing and surfing the web. I am leaning towards the 17" MBP but for portablility i may get the 15". Since i will be taking it to school i dont know if i should pick the solid state vs. the regular 500GB. My main questions are: What hard drive? What should i put in my bag along with some books and writing utensils? Does anti glare make a big diference? 2.2GHz or 2.3 GHz? What programs are a must have?
P.S. this is my first mac and i do not mind price so much i just want what makes sence. For example if there is no NEED for a solid state then i will not get it.

Why bring the discs with me? I agree on the chord but is it worth $80? Definately the Manual!
You need spare bootable copies for troubleshooting.  It's rare, but what are you going to do if at some point while away from home (where your original discs are) you start having problems?  You will have no DVDs to run AHT or even to run the repair disk option.
If you accidently delete an "Apple" app.  You need the Install DVD to custom install.
The above are just small examples of why you need to carry bootable copies.  The original DVDs should be kept in a safe place at home.
The System DVDs are machine specific.  Therefore, you cannot borrow someone elses system DVDs to troubleshoot your MBP.
I purchased an extra Magsafe to keep inside my computer carrying case.  I felt why should I use the "home" one?  I would be SOL if something happened to it while using it away from home.  My MBP is older than yours.  The Magsafe was no where near $80.

  • Hard Disk Recovery from a Dead Mac Book Pro 13inch

What is the best way to recover information on your hard disk from a mac book pro that will not start from water damage?

When my daughter's MBP died due to drop-related damage, I removed the hard drive and placed it in this enclosurehttp://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ES2.5BPU2S/ and she now connects it to her new MBP by the USB port when she wants material from the old drive.
For less than $20 it is pretty hard to go wrong.

  • I have recently purchased a hybred 750GbHDD as an upgrade for my MAC Book Pro (Intell Version) I have a boot camp partition to the original 500GB HDD. How can I expand both partitions to fit the new drive?

I have recently purchased a hybred 750GbHDD as an upgrade for my MAC Book Pro (Intell Version) I have a boot camp partition to the original 500GB HDD. How can I expand both partitions to fit the new drive?
I have tried bootcamp and have had no luck due to the fact that boot camp doesn't see the additional HDD space of 250Gb. What am I not doing?

Ouch, well there is a problem.
This is the stack of partitions on your old drive
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (50GB say)
    Bootcamp (50GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
This is the same stack on your new drive imaged from the old one.
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (50GB say)
    Bootcamp (50GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
    Emtpy Space (100GB say)
    This is what you want
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (100GB say)
    Bootcamp (100GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
EFI has to be at the top of the drive and Lion Recovery has to be at the bottom of the drive.
And you only have four partitions.
You can't move the Lion Recovery Partition or Bootcamp partiton, however you can expand the Lion Partition into empty space below it. (but can't delete or move the Lion Recovery partition)
Your Duplicator duplicated perfectly, too perfectly Likely would work with same sized drives/partitions.
This is what your going to need to do.
You need to move the Bootcamp partition to a blank external drive using WinClone and disconnect. This is so you have two backups of it. (one on your old 500GB drive)
You will need a drive enclousre or IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable for the older 500GB drive and option key boot from it. (some enclosures can't be booted from so check first Other World Computing is good place to ask)
Download the free Carbon Copy Cloner, grab any new files off the new 750GB internal drive to the old 500GB your booted from.
Open Apple's Disk Utility and Erase with Zero option the entire internal 750GB drive and let it rip, this will map off as many bad sectors and improve reliability.
Now use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the 500GB Lion + Lion Recovery Partitions to the internal 750GB, it will "fix" things and place Lion Recovery at the bottom of the drive where it belongs, give all the extra space to OS X Lion.
Next your going to have to follow WinClones instructions to restore your Bootcamp, likely you will have to recreate the Bootcamp partition first (in Bootcamp) to the size you want and then clone. Likely Winclone may "fix" Windows to recognize it's in a new larger partition now. I don't know you'll have to check as I haven't used it.
When Bootcamp creates the partition it will place it near the bottom next to the Lion Recovery Partition.
As you know you will have to re-validate Windows with Lord Redmond or it expires as you changed the hardware.

  • Clean mac book pro for sale

how to clean a mac book pro for sale

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps listed in this support article, take these steps:
    1. Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
    2. Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
    3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
    4. If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
    5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
    6. If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
    7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the one remaining data partition with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer to the buyer.) The buyer should understand that if he doesn't get the original discs from you, he won't get the bundled iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test. Replacements for the original discs can be ordered from Apple.
The new owner will have to redownload any software that came from the App Store, including OS X upgrades, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer those either. The buyer will have to purchase them.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • What is the other category on my mac book pro for hard drive space on how do I improve on it

What is the "other" category on my mac book pro for hard drive space? I found out that it is taking a whole lot of my computer's space...how do I find what it is and optimize it?

If you need to remove files for space see The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing space on your hard drive. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
Under no circumstances should you try deleting files outside of your Home folder.

    • Only if your video camera supports it.  Depending on how your camera works, you may need to add preview software to your Mac to use this feature.
    • Alternatively, your camera may also be able to record directly into your Mac while you are monitoring the Mac's display.
    • If you are using a consumer camcorder that supports HDMI monitoring, a small HDTV might be an simpler solution than your Mac.  For an example of how this is done, see http://youtu.be/GVpSkZD6qE4.
    • The retailer who sold you your video camera may have other suggestions.
    • If you need more professional results, an external preview monitor will offer more capability on compatible cameras.

  • I would like to download iMessage for my mac book pro.

I would like to download iMessage for my mac book pro OS X, 10.8.1. When I try to install imessage it says that I need 10.7. What do I have to do to get imessage installed?

It sounds like you already have iMessages setup. Did you sign into iCloud from system preferences and did you also add your iCloud account to Mail?
They should, just sign you into iMessages when you load Messages.app.
If you are only being asked to put in your AIM id (which it is really asking for your APPLE ID) then it means that you are already signed into iMessages (hopefully)
To check this, go to Messages>Preferences>accounts and choose iMessages. Make sure that it says it is enabled.
Now close out of the preferences, and then hit cmd 0, to bring up the Chat Box.
The Chat box lets you use iMessages begin a conversation with a friend in your contacts.
simply type their name into the TO field at the top of the chat box and find a contact with "IMessages" next to their name. Hover over that contact, and if a blue Talk Bubble comes up next to the name, that account is ready to receive iMessages.
Click the account and begin a conversation.
If you have setup everything correctly with your Apple ID on your iDevices as well as in Messages on OSX, you should be able to have a synced conversation with all of them.
Please note, if you were using your Apple ID with iChat before ML, then you most certainly have an AIM account and you were using it in the past. If you want a buddy list, then you should follow the prompt to sign in with your AIM account, but treat it like it is asking you for an Apple ID. Sign in with your apple id to the aim account it asks you to sign into and then you'll have your old iChat buddy list back.
iMessages does not have a buddy list associated with it. you need to organize your Contacts with their user information and then you need to use the To field in the chat box to communicate and find people with iMessages. Only gtalk, jabber, aim, bonjour, yahoo have the ability to show you a buddy list. iMessages buddy list is Contacts.app
if iMessages is not enabled, you can enable it by clicking on the iMessages account in Messages>preferences>accounts and then signing in with the same apple id you have tied to your iOS devices.
    I hope this helps.

Like any other insurance, it's only worth it if you have a problem.  I've purchased it on my "high risk" Macs and not purchased on the others.  So far I've never needed it.
