HT3986 Can I install Windows 7 on Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion?

I have Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain lion and i need to install windows 7 in my mac...
Please help me!

Yes, you can install Windows 7 on Mountain Lion.
You have two options:
1- Run Windows 7 through a virtual machine such as Parallels or VMWare.
2- Dual boot your Mac through bootcamp.
In any case, you will need a valid and original Windows 7 installer DVD (or image).
Since you asked under bootcamp, I will give some details about is below.
First, as suggested in bootcamp, I would suggest you to take a backup just in case. To install Windows, you have to change the partioning of your harddrive from GUID (default apple) to Master Boot Record and though it should be seamless, there can be problems occasionally.
Bootcamp is located under /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app. Make ready your Windows 7 installation disk (either insert the disc to your DVD drive or mount the image) and run Boot Camp Assistant. Follow the instructions, they should be pretty easy to follow. At some point you will have to change the partitioning of your hard drive and create another partition for Windows. Notice that if your hard drive has too much fragmentation, you might not be able to create a new partition without either running a defragmenter first or reformatting the hard drive. However, I do not want to overkill you with information, so first try to follow Boot Camp assistant and let me know if you are stuck at a particular stage.
Good luck!

  • Can I install Windows 8.1 as Bootcamp partition from OSX Mountain Lion using a USB stick?

    I have the following:
Bootable USB stick with Windows 8.1 - 64 bit
MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 - it's probably 3-4 years old.
The Bootcamp partition currently has Windows 7 installed.
I want to know whether I can install Windows 8.1 from a USB stick into a Bootcamp partition. Apple's article on the topic refers to Bootcamp 5.1, but my OSX install has Bootcamp 5.0 - I am assuming 5.1 comes with the Mavericks version.  I don't want to upgrade to Mavericks because I am running out of space as it is on the OSX partition.
Thus my question. So can I?

Your laptop has a DVD drive, right? If so you need to burn your ISO to a disc, will not work off USB

  • Can I install windows 7 on my portable HDD from my Mountain lion? and how i need to do it?

Can I Install Windows 7 on my portable HDD from Mountain lion ? And how i need to do it?

Because of a Microsoft restriction, Windows can't be installed on an external drive (there are workarounds, but you need Windows). Apart from that, Boot Camp only works with the hard drive where you have installed OS X, so you can't use it to install Windows on an external drive

  • I was wondering can i install windows on my mac when i have downloaded windows form the internet and do not have a C.D.??

I was wondering can i install windows on my mac when i have downloaded windows form the internet and do not have a C.D.??
Because when i get to the part in Boot Camp Assistant that says Start Windows Installation it says u need a disc... is there no other way??

Get the physical copy (disk) this will enable you to reinstall when (not if ) it messes up.
Make sure to purchase acopy that is compatible with your OSX

  • HT3986 can i install window 7 for 13" macbook pro

can i install windows 7 for 13" macbook pro ? I got that in august 2012.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows 7 on your computer without any problem. First, determine if you need Boot Camp or a virtual machine > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321
If you need Boot Camp, get a Windows 7 retail DVD, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to install Windows. If you want all the steps to install it, you can print this PDF file > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf. Windows 8 support will come with a OS X update.
If you need a virtual machine, you can use Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox. All of them are paid except VirtualBox, and they work well with Windows

  • HT3986 I have installed windows 7 into my macbook pro 15 inch with lions.  This computer is the current 2.2 GH i7 chip with 500 GB HD.  Now, how do I install the drivers.  When I started boot camp, the system prompted me to create a CD.  What do I do with

I have installed Windows 7 into my Macbook Pro 15 inch with Lions as operating system.  (current model with 2.2 GHz i7 processor, 500 GB HD ad 5400 rpm).  When I started with boot camp, the system promped me to create a disc, which I presume is for the drivers for windows 7.  Now windows is intalled.  What do I do with the CD that the system created for me?  Also, why does the system automatically start in Win7 instead of Lion.  I need to pression the option key to have it start in OS X.  I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

Insert it while you are in Windows, if it does not autostart run setup.exe.
Choose your startup disk using Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk (in OSX) or Control Panel>Boot Camp>Startup Disk (in Windows)

  • Can I install Windows on my Mac without Boot Camp Assistant?

I was wondering if this was possible, or does Boot Camp Assistant format the hard drive in such a way that makes it possible for Windows to be installed, or can I just create a new partition myself and format it and install Windows without having to touch Boot Camp Assistant?

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Can I install Windows XP on Mac mini 2011?

I managed to install Windows XP by other means, but......
    Where are the drivers??

Would almost just run the intel chipset identifier from the site if XP is needed.  Apparently there are a few chipsets for the Sandy Bridge configuration in this processor.  If you ambitious and google alot you can probably break the hardware down to specific drivers. For example:
    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelhdgraphics3000_2000/sb/CS-032057.htm
    Has the GPU driver and:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=861&DwnldID=18498& ProductFamily=Chipsets&ProductLine=Chipset+Software&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+C hipset+Identification+Utility&lang=eng
Should assist in identifying and applying the chipset drivers.  Although this is all user beware, as I have not done it with this particular mini.  So expect alot of time to be put in and alot of trial and error (and possibly won't work).  May try this on the weekend and will post results if I get the time.

  • HT3986 can i install windows 7 professional

Hi  my  name is janak patel . iam using a macbook pro and i want to install windows 7 professional . can i do it ? plz replay ASAP

Burning an ISO image or .exe if this will be an electronic version is when you can have trouble.
No one needs 32-bit OS anymore, but most don't need Pro, Home Premium is fine.
Schools often offer Windows 7 Pro to students.
ASAP? we're end users and really.

  • Can I install Adobe CS4 on  Mac OS X v10.9?

    Hi,
Does anyone know whether you can install Adobe CS4 on MAC OS X v.9?
    Thanks!

For the most part this should work, but you will need to make sure to e.g. fix the permissions on the Library folder because 10.9 handles this differently from previous versions of OSX. And of course there may be any number of other compatibility issues that may require manual fiddling.

Not all computers can use the "Mirroring" feature found in Mountain Lion.
You can still mirror using iTunes and use "Airplay".

  • Can i install windows on a mac book air?, if i can, do you recomend it?

I want to buy a new macbook air but i need to use windows, but i dont know if i can install it on a macbook air and if i can install it, is it fast? Do you recomend it?

You can but if it's on a disc you would need a way to get it to your MacBook Air such as a USB Superdrive.
For the recomendation I can't really say but if you use programs that only work/work better on Windows then sure. All the Macs I put Windows on worked fine but you should consider the 8GB of RAM upgrade for the MacBook if you plan to run both at once.

Can I make a disk copy of the Dell HDD and install on the Mac as though I am installing onto a new Windows HD?
Any help will be much appreciated as though I have a Mac Book I'm not a Mac expert by any means

I doubt it. How did you plan to install it?
    Using bootcamp?
    A virtual machine like VirtualBox?
