I am using system 10.7.3 and my I photo 9.2.3 keeps crashing upon start up. Does anyone know how to correct this without losing my photos?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.

Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
How do I sign out of my apple i.d. Using my iPad then sign back n using my other apple I.d? I can't find the option anywhere on my iPad to do this. Anyone know how?
What ID do you want to change? To change your iTunes ID, go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID. To change the ID for iMessage, do the same thing in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive. To change the ID for FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime. To change the ID for iCloud, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the ID you want to use.

My nano ipod only reads 4 albums from the entire library since the newest version of iTunes. What can I do to fix this?
Apparently it's related to the Firefox plug in.
This isn't exactly a solution but more of a way to avoid opening PDFs with Firefox's plug in.
1. Highlight "Tools" from the Menu Bar in the top left of the screen (or click "Options" if using the Firefox Compact Menu)
2. Select to "Options
3. Select "Applications"
4. Look for "Adobe Acrobat Document" under Content Type and to the right under Action select "Use Adobe Reader (default)" instead of the using Adobe Acrobat in Firefox
5. Open a test PDF. It should open in it's own window now.
Again, not a complete solution but something that'll at least let you scroll with PDFs open.

I have an original iPad and downloaded the new operating system. Now, I cannot add to my contacts or calendar apps, and Pages ( which I purchased) is not allowing me to use the bold, underline, and italics functions. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
No, it stays with the current OS (iOS5 in this case) - Apple doesn't allow downgrading iOS
If you are syncing to a desktop, you shoudln't lose anything. If you aren't syncing, then that's the first thing you should do, to protect contacts etc.
the other thing is, when the iPad is connected to iTunes, right-click its name in the Devices list and choose Back Up.
That way, when yoiu do the restore, everything should come back as was. -
Does anyone know how to exclude footnotes from the word count in the Pages for iPad app?
If I create a doc on pages for ipad, then view it on the iMac, the word count is lower. I figured out that this is because Pages counts all the words in the footnotes. Does anyone know how to make it exclude footnotes from the word count?
I see the exact same behavior on my IPAD(s) and IPHONE(s). This isn't the loss of titles already identified in other posts. Every movie that wasn't purchased from iTunes, meaning all my movies of my kids, shows it sync in iTunes, but doesn't show up anywhere on the devices.

nows it says complete action using (here i only have 2 icon options 1= DB Text Editor 2 = HTML Viewer)
I have installed Adobe Reader.Can you confirm if the downloaded file is a pdf file, that is it ends with .pdf?

I have lost sound on my iPad in apps unless I use headphones ,does anyone know how to get sound back without them .I have used the mute volume on the bar at bottom of screen and the slider volume control there only shows when headphones are plugged in !

The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x? -
Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.

Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.

When I use AirPlay to mirror a video through my iPad there is a lag at times. Does anyone know how to improve this?
Since I updated my apple TV firmware the other day to 4.4.2 (3160) My video streamed from my iphone 4s loads inconsistently, and more troubling, much more slowly that with the previous version of the software.
Since I'm not technically, 'mirroring' as you are, on it's face, doesn't seem related. I'm just throwing this out since after looking for comments about radical changes in airplay after this update, I couldn't find much on this.
Did you install this latest Apple TV update? For me it's an obvious difference. Previously I could start the airplay from my phone and not really have delays for loadiing or buffering. I don't have any other 'load' on my wifi or anything new that could be delaying the link from phone to airpay.

By default, the AirPort Express will broadcast an unsecure wireless network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Your iPad should "see" this network and be able to connect to it. Have you tried going through the iPad's Settings > Wi-Fi > Choose a Network... option. If so, does the AirPort's wireless network appear in the list of available networks?
Can other wireless devices connect to the AirPort's network? -

Unfortunately, no. There is a workaround however.
You can go to the Mail Settings, and enter an incorrect password for the account (or no password). This way, everytime it tries to check for mail, it will prompt for password.
However, this won't stop people from opening the Mail App and reading the e-mails that are already saved to the device -
My iMac is connected to a Brother printer. I have Snow Leopard 10.7.3 As of yesterday, when I try to print a PDF it prints as a blank black page. Does anyone know how to correct this so that the PDF will print as I see it on screen?
If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash. -

I just switched from Excel (lol) and found an error in a key calculation i use. Does anyone know how to automatically add hours to a time? i.e. i have to convert Pacific Time to other U.S. Time Zones so in the past I used this formula in Excel (=B6+TIME(3,0,0)) which is now not working in Numbers. Is there an equivalent?
