  • How do I get iTunes to see my music on a server

    Hi,
I have alot of music on a seperate server, how do I get iTunes to see this. I have tried adding it as a folder however when I shut the computer down and come back to it again it can't locate the music. Any ideas?

Apple provides repeat downloads as a convenience, not a substitute for your computers being the primary source of file transfers.  All your iTunes information such as playlists, ratings, etc. are in a file on your computer, not in the Apple Store.  Typically when you move computers you copy the whole iTunes folder and everything it contains to the new computer.  Moving media files can be done with a drive, or by Home Sharing.  You can also redownload media but let's say somebody desiced Apple may no longer sell a certain album; it cannot be downloaded again but if you already have it on a computer you can move your copy of the file.
5 authorizations:  Some households have multiple computers.  If you want ot use one with an account it has to be authroized.  It means you can use any computer in the house to make purchaes, etc.
Okay, my 5 minute typing limit for any one response is up.

  • How do I get iTunes and iPhoto to recognize my iPhone 4?

I have a MacBook Pro (version 10.5.8). I recently installed a new hard drive, battery, and had the Genius Bar reinstall my OS X. Now, iTunes and iPhoto don't recognize my iPhone 4 (version 5.1) when it's attached through the USB port. It simply doesn't show up in the left column of either program. Before the hard drive, battery and reinstall of OS X, I never had this problem.
I have tried restarting my phone and my computer, and looking for my iPhone in Image Capture, and none of these actions have worked.
    Help!

Update: I did this and it now recognizes my phone. But iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2) still does not recognize my phone. Any advice?

  • How can I get iTunes to locate my music?

Alright, a couple days ago I found myself with a problem. iTunes could not locate my music. I went on the internet looking up solutions and loe and behold... they didn't work. Then, just today, I found one that put myself in another mess. It had me go get my iTunes Music Library and post it on my desktop, then delete my iTunes Library itself. Then I was to import the iTunes Music Library back into iTunes. Makes sense right? Didn't work either. When I tried to upload it back on, it just said "Unable to upload because some files cannot be found." Now not only do I not have the files themselves in iTunes (I still have this iTunes Music Library to keep record of what they were), but my computer cannot find where they are.
Keep in mind my raw music files are not the same as my library, I had edited, deleted, etc several songs to my liking.
I even tried pasting all of the raw music into iTunes (hopefully it would remember where they were) and deleting them, but then when I tried importing the iTunes Music Library again, it STILL could not find them.
Can anyone think of any solutions to my dilemma? Any help will be appreciated!

Typical reasons for missing files are, you've deleted the files, they are on a disconnected external drive, or the drive has a changed drive letter, you've moved the folder where the files live in some other fashion, a third party app has rearranged the files, or iTunes has got confused about the layout they are supposed to be in.
Generally you need to work out what has happend, reverse the action and everything will be alright again. If it is something you can't/don't want to undo, e.g. a drive letter change, then as long as you can track down the current location of the folder containing the media then my script FindTracks should be able to reconnect it to iTunes.

  • How do I get iTunes to look for music on my computer

Here's the problem: So on my old HP laptop I had around 5500 song files saved/stored in various locations all compiled for easy access through iTunes, as in I could access all of them there; standard, no problems, what everyone expects.
On it's last limb I completely backed the computer's C drive contents to an external harddrive. What I didn't expect was that there would be no organizational structure of the backup: merely 3 folders each containing a series of ~50-300 subfolders of backed up content (zipped, at that time, mind you). Around 88 GB in all, which is interesting because it was 140GB in size on the hp before being backed up.
Towards the process of unzipping all of them, I unzipped only the very first sub folder which contained around 50 song files (this isn't to say each folder just has songs; there's tons of other random files ranging from documents to programs to random coding) before opening iTunes for the first time.
This part is critical to understanding my issue. When I opened iTunes for the very first time and it was initializing its components, doing a startup etc., I had only unzipped that one folder; none of the hundreds of others had yet been unloaded onto my mac's harddrive and viewable as downloads.
During the guided installation process iTunes prompted me at one point and asked if it wanted to "search for music already on this computer" or something like that. I said yes and it seamlessly uploaded the 50 or so songs.
The problem is I wish I had waited until I unziped everything because I don't know how to access that feature again, in that I do not want to manually dig through each download folder and upload songs individually when I know there's a feature that can look through my computer's hard drive for me and upload mp3 and similar files in a fraction on an instant. For example, when I downloaded and opened Spotify, it did this on it's own (although it included a bunch of duplicate files so there's around 7700). Some may question why I don't just use Spotify for my library then and I'd respond by saying I don't like it, I'm not used to it, and iTunes is more compatible/easier to customize, create playlists, sync with iPhone, iPod, etc.
I've even tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes (using this method: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4045) to no avail; once I opened it again for the first time after reinstallation it already has included only those ~50 songs and doesn't prompt that "search for music on this computer" feature or whatever. I actually think that feature accompanied my mac as a startup, when I started the computer for the first time from factory settings.
I'm hesitant to completely wipe my computer because one, I've already been using it for a couple weeks and don't want to do another back up (I'm not very mac savvy if you can't already tell) and two I don't even know if that will work.
I want all my songs from my computer all accessible to one area: iTunes. Please help!

In itunes preferences, Advanced make sure the two following options are checked
    Keep Itunes Media Folder organised
Copy files to itunes Media folder when adding to library
The box above that should have your iTunes Media folder path
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/itunes Media.
If you still have the original 50 songs on your harddrive delete them form itunes. Then drag your external Hard Drive icon into itunes  and it should identify and copy all your music files to your new machines.
Check that everything is there then you can do a freah backup to the external drive with everything in its correct folder

  • How can i get Itunes to route my music to an external hard drive once my Internal drive is full?

My Internal hard drive is getting full and im starting to worry about how i will store tracks in the future. I have my itunes set to auto organize the files into the Music folder when dragged into Itunes. I am a DJ, so i do get music quiet frequently that i need to add to Itunes for My DJ Software, Serato, To read. Is there anyway i can have Itunes begin rerouting the new songs onto an external HD? and can i play songs from two different hard drives with itunes open? Example, Song A is on internal.. once i finish listening to it or having serato acess it, If i then want to play Song B, which is on an external HD, will Itunes need to "Relocate the file" or will it remember its stored on the connected External HD?
    Thank you

If that doesn't work for you then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • How do i get itunes to organise my music properly

I must admit that i am not very good at these things and need help.
I have mostly used windows media player to load music onto my d drive in either mp3 or wma format.
I sometimes have downloaded [purchased] music via itunes into my itunes folder on my c drive.
Sometimes i have used itunes to copy cd's into my c:itunes folder.
in all of this there have been duplicates because i also used nokia media manager to convert my mp3's etc.. to a smaller size in order to put on my phone [was a nokia and now a blackberry].
thus it is a bit of a mess in there.
the problem is that itunes is showing all sorts of music on there and for some albums there are 3 or more copies of the songs showing in itunes.
rather than delete all the music and then reinstall to the hard drive using itunes i would appreciate it if anyone could suggest a method of tidying this lot up.

I'm not sure about those music selections , but just to make sure, you're clicking the Shuffle button at the top, not the one in the expanded Album view, right?

  • How do I get ITunes to pull my music from TimeCapsule instead of local HDD

I have been trying without success to have copy all of my music from my new "Time Capsule" instead of my local HDD. I contact apple and they were not able to assist as they said it was not support.
This is what I have done.
I copied my entire music folder, placed it onto my time capsule. I can see the folder.
In iTunes preferences I pointed to the TC Music folder I copied
I select add to library and it starts to read all of my music.
When it's done, there's nothing in my iTunes library.
What's the problem? Can someone help? This was one of the main reasons I bought this time capsule. I am sure there are many people that have either done this or want to.
    I appreciate any assistance.
    Thanks,
    BB

I don't use itunes to point at music from my TC but for you I just tried it.
I copied one mp3 song to the TC. Before I launched itunes I mount the TC hard drive to the desktop first. Launch itunes. Select add to library from the file menu. No need to go to preferences.

  • How do I get iTunes to play my music?

My computer was recently repaired under AppleCare which required the replacement of the mother board. Now iTunes thinks I have a new computer, a computer that is not authorized to play the music I downloaded before the mother board was changed. How do I correct this problem?

Well...no one's going to take advantage of the authorization, and you're allowed a max of five authorizations. Once you reach five, you can deauthorize all and then authorize only those you need. Unless you've reached your max, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • How can I get iTunes to put my music in a certain file?

Ok, I didn't really know how to word the title. lol.
So my problem is, before when I added songs to iTunes, weither it be from importing songs from a CD, buying from iTunes, or just downloading a song from the net. It would automatically make a new folder in "My Music" folder.
    For example.
Say I download Avril Lavignes "Complicated" and save it to my desktop, when I play it in iTunes and under album I put "Complicated - Single" iTunes would make a folder in My Music called Avril Lavigne>Complicated - Single>Complicated.mp3
but I recently got my old hard drive put into my new computer. and when I restarted my computer ..iTunes was gone so I had to redownload it ...and now when I add a new song to my playlist, it doesn't add it to My Music folder, it just keeps it to where I downloaded it.
So how can I make it go back to putting any song I put in itunes go to my folder?

Check your settings in iTunes preferences. Make sure iTunes is set to copy files to iTunes library location and to manage library automatically.

  • How can I get itunes and the music placed on itunes on an external hard drive?

It's an Iomega 1TB external hard drive.
Is this possible? Or do I just have to keep installing itunes to a computer and just have my music saved there?

Drag the iTunes library to an external drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it to that instance of the library.
The iTunes application shouldn't be moved.
