You use Restore to get the latest firmware build, not the Update button. You can only use the Update button, if there is an iOS update, say iOS 5.1.

If your iPhone is truly unlocked - purchased as unlocked through Apple
or through wireless provider that sells unlocked iPhones or unlocked
by a wireless provider, then the update should not mess up your iPhone.
If your iPhone was jailbroken or hacked to change wireless providers,
then the update will relock it to the original wireless provider if you are lucky
or turn it into a useless brick if unlucky.
Back up first to protect against glitches or other problems. -
I'm trying to send a text message from my new MacBook Air, I can type the message but when I hit enter the message does not go.
Have you addressed the message to someone? Is that address capable of receiving text messages?

I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs using the new computer, there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out" during play back, similar to a small scratch on a vinyl record. Although when I play the same song over again, the "miss" occurs in a different location during the song. No probs with old computer, just the new one. I'm onto my third new computer - same problem. Any suggestions please?
You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent. The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer. The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8). It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.

When i go on my phone it says i have 3 new messages but when i click on it i really dont. I turned off and turned my phone on 3 times and it still says i have 3 new messages how do i stop that. Without actually turning on the bager icon thing that pops up on the app.

It sounds like your notification for messages is showing that you have a few mesages but when you go into the app, there are no new messages. I would start by signing out of your Apple ID in Settings > Messages. Then close the running apps on the phone:

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone, sign back in, and try again:

Unfortunately you cannot unmerge your data, you will have to separate it manually once you have created and logged into your own iCloud accounts for each user. It is using the same iCloud account that has caused your data to become merged. -
My daughter and granddaughter have the same model iPhone. I can go messages and text my granddaughters phone from my ipad2, but when I try to text my daughter I get the message that she is not registered with I message, but she is registered and gets texts all the time. What do we need to do?

What blue bubble are you trying to turn on? If you mean that the Send button will not work, go to Settings>Messages>Show Subject Field>Off. Make sure that is set to off.
If you send an iMessage, the texts between the devices appear in a blue bubble.
iMessages only work between iOS devices and they are different than the standard text messages that any cell phone can send to another cell phone. -
My Subaru XV reads out messages received on my iphone without a problem, but when I hit reply, it comes up as "error, cannot send message". We have checked everything in the car set up and everything appears correct. We are wondering if we have missed changing something in the phone. Can someone please help?

This I have seen before...
It can be that the SMTP relay server is configured to only allow certain IP ranges or addresses.
It can be that the firewall on the SP server does not allow for SMTP traffic (normally 25, for example for Exchange).
It can be that there is an Antivirus on the SP server(Client AV) that prohobits the Timer service to send email from this server. I have seen MacAfee do this. Needed an policy change.
If, its the builtin SMTP service you are using, check this link:

I use the brush tool a lot... When I use to use it I would select the brush then select the brush tool I wanted to use like Iris Enhance. I then would go to the picture and click on the eye. A dot would appear to show me I was using the tool. Then I could edit... No dot appears now and nothing changes on the picture.. My assumption is something changed that needs to be changed back,,,,, PLEASE HELP!!
ok now When I select a tool to use the brush with the dot shows up... When I highlight the area I want to adjust it shows pink... then when i hit done the pink goes away and no changes have been made....

I have an Iphone 4, IOS version 6.1.3.
My app store badge is showing 2 updates, but when I go into my app store, it tells me all apps are up to date. I've tried several of the fixes that others have who have had simular issues, but so far, I havn't seen anyone who is having the issue of the app store saying the apps are up to date. (Most others are unable to load the app store or its just blank.)
Sometimes when I go into the app store the notification will go away, but its only temporary as it will come back again later. I've gone through my purchased list, and there are none that have update beside them. There are some that have a cloud, but all of those are ones I have deleted and do not wan
Unlike most users, I do not have a ton of apps. Probably less then 30, some of those are ones it came with. If this was a computer, I would think that there is something in the registry that is left over from one of the apps I deleted and its triggering the app store. IDK if it works like that on Iphones as I'm not really an expect. This is the only apple device I've ever owned and I got it used from a friend about 6 months ago. (It was cleared and restored before I bought it from her)
Everthing else seems to be working fine for the most part, except that it has been acting kinda slow and sometimes the browser and stuff doesn't load right the first try. (I only use wifi on it, as I don't use a cellular service with this Iphone)ATtempt to power off your device and power it back on, if that doesn't work reset all settings should resolve it for you

I can get thumbnail photos but when I tap them the screen goes blank
Brand new iphone4 - photos taken appear as thumbnails and when tapped to enlarge are shown OK. But after the phone is powered down and restarted the thumbnails appear but when tapped do not appear. Help please.

WHen I open my iBooks all of my books are there I can open them and read, but when I try to go to the store nothing will come up, I can't do any searches it appears that there is no connection. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing works!

I have iphoe 3g and seem to need update 4.3 but cant seem to get it as after downloading update it is at 4.2.1 and says it is up to date but whatsapp says I need 4.3 any ideas
4.2.1 is the end of the line for the 3G. It was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You will need to buy a new phone if you want to use that app (and many others) if you don't already have an older version saved in your iTunes library.
