HT4623 I lost my apps and iTunes after a restore, but it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone 4. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos, but I'm still getting the same message.

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. When I open iTunes, "Welcome to your new iphone" and it says I can re-do the "restore" and choose my lastest update. I assume this will give me back my apps and iTunes. When i choose to do this, it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos from the phone, but I'm still getting the same message every time I re-try. I don't want to delete everything, but I don't know what to do...? Thanks!

Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

Look at the capacity bar of the iPad in iTunes - at the bottom of the screen in the iTunes window while the iPad is connected to sync - and make sure that you do have enough space left on the device. If you do have nought space left - quit iTunes, restart the computer and restart the iPad and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also try a reset and see if that helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Here's something else to consider:
Since Snow Leopard, OS X uses a Decimal count for file size. iTunes however still uses a Binary count. What that means is: your iTunes library shows one size, while the folder shows another. Depending on the size of your library, this can be a pretty big difference.
Yours won't be that much, but it may be enough to prevent it from moving to the MBA from the TM.

My iTunes Library is on my computer, I have done a backup manually, and all of my music is on an external hard drive (as well as my iTunes library).

Thanks a lot Recycle bin is empty, I will move some files from the C drive to an external hard drive, then do the update, and then move the files back. Any files you recommend not moving to the external hard drive at all?

I tried to copy Itune library from my previous MacBook pro to the new one (Itunes 10 to Itunes11). I used an external hard-drive. I just ran into this issue moving around large VHD images. I found the cause to be local time machines backups. Time machine seems to keep backups on your local (i.e boot) drive by default, in addition to your nominated Time Machine drive. This is meant to be transparent and only consume free space, but clearly it's not smart enough to free the space when you actually need it.
If you launch the "System Information" utility, on the "Storage" tab you should see a large portion of your primary hard-disk consumed by "Backups".
To disable local time machine backups, run the folllowing at the terminal:
sudo tmutil disablelocal
This should immediately free up the space. If not, try running a Time Machine backup manually to kick it into gear. You may re-enable local Time Machine backups with the following:
sudo tmutil enablelocal

Before I did this I backed up the ipad to my laptop so I wouldnt lose precious pics and videos of my baby boy. Now that the latest version is on the ipad it is now asking me if I want to start as a new ipad or restore my backup from itunes. So i select restore my backup from itunes and connect to itunes but it now says there is not enough space to do so. I have a feeling it is because there are alot of pics on our ipad which i presume are all in this backup, many of which we do not need on the ipad anymore but I have no idea on how I go about deleting these pics?? And how do I find where on my laptop this backup is and most importantly the video and pics of my baby boy.

Restoring an iPad from an iTunes-generated backup should not require an Apple ID password.
Did you encrypt the iPad backup? If so, then trying to restore will require entering the encryption password.

If you no longer need the backups, you can delete them by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of device you want to delete the backup for (under Backups at the top), then tap Delete Backup. This will permanently delete it from your account, freeing up the storage it occupies.

You gotta remember that iCloud is backing up the entire phone. So if you delete stuff it still might not be enough. You have to options. Buy more storage or back it up to a computer because apple won't be able to back it up for you.

Everything from my old computer is still in the music portion of my phone, I don't know how but it hasn't synced that part. I went through and edited the new library and there are fewer songs, it's telling my I don't have enough room on my phone. This is impossible when it is less music than I am currently holding. How exactly was the music transferred to the new computer?
The correct way is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer. If it was transferred properly there are no issues with syncing to the iOS device.

It means you do not have enough Space on your Device and need to create More Space on Your Device by Deleting some items off your device.

I just upgraded to 4.0, but every time I try to log on, I get an error message that says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox." I restarted three times and I still get that same message.

When I got the error message, I logged off and then signed back in to this same desktop computer. When that didn't change anything I shut it down and restarted it. No change, so I rebooted again without actually shutting the computer down, and again, no change. I can only access Firefox via Explorer when I log in as "Tech Support" on my computer instead of my own user name.

After iOS 5 installed, I can't sync my phone because it says there isn't enough room. There was plenty before.

In the Summary on iTunes it says I now have 8 GB of Other, that I didn't have previously. That's half my memory and I have no idea what it is. Also, I don't need Newsstand, YouTube, or Videos and can't seem to delete them. Could they be taking up that much space? Please help.

As a note, you won't be able to delete Newsstand, YouTube, or Video because they're native apps. BUT they also shouldn't take up much room at all. Video and Newsstand will if you have content stored in them, but you likely don't if you don't need them.
