If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

HT4623 IOS 7 Install

I updated my iPhone 4 to IOS 7 and now it keeps shutting down. I can not synch my phone because I get the error message "can not find XXXX phone to synch" Have anyone had this problem?
Also, I got a CH4 server untrusted server error

You install iOS 7.0.2. Do so by following the directions in the HT4623 article you attached above.

I followed all these steps when upgrading to iOS7 but the upgrade failed. My iPad then prompted me to restore the device. The problem is the iPad is now stalled at the point where it is installing firmware (Error message 1) Apple says it's a hardware problem and they can't fix it but there was no apparent hardware problem when I had iOS 6?

Suggest you both try the steps in "Update your device using iTunes" near the bottom of the HT4623 article pcrutt attached above. Make sure you are using the current iTunes on your comptuer (version 11.1.1).

HT4623 iOS 6 update on iphone 5 failed now itunes does not find my phone

I have been seeing some distubing things about this update and this is of course after i have had the current problem. long and the short of it using my MAC i was able to update my ipad no issues but when doing my phone it got most of the way through and then failed to complete. the phone is stuck on the usb/itunes screen and itunes on the mac no longer finds the phone. FYI enven on my PC as a longshot to at least get the phone working it is not recognized there either................

HT4623 IOS 6.1.3 update and maps

I have updated my Iphone 5 to IOS 6 latest version (6.1.3) last week. Since then, Apple Maps doesn't display maps anymore on screen. GPS position and directions appear but on a blank screen. 3G and LTE aren't teh problem, iut works well with other apps and Google Maps. Is there anyone having the same issue ?

You need to backup all and then restore your contents after you have reinstalled IOS6.

No, you will not have 3D maps nor Siri nor Panorama.
You will lose Google Maps and YouTube, but there is a YouTube app in the App Store. Supposedly Google is readying a Google Maps app.
Downgrading can be problematic and is not supported by Apple. Do not upgrade if you have a problem with any of the items I listed.

HT4623 iOS 8 version 8.1.2 issues with the calendar displaying wrong TIME ZONE!

I just updated to iOS 8 using version 8.1.2 and am having issues with the calendar. I use my GMAIL calendar and sync to my iPhone and now any calendar entries that I add from my phone display the current time zone AND GMT time. Entries that were already there display correctly. New entries entered from the GMAIL calendar also display correctly. The issue is with NEW entries entered on my PHONE into the calendar. This is very annoying and causes problems for new entries that need EDITED. Once opened to edit it defaults to GMT time! WRONG!! I have turned off the automatic time zone feature and Time Zone Override in Settings but it's still WRONG! There are multiple reports of this online so I would like to know when/if it will be corrected or if there is a fix! Please help!!

You will have to connect ot iTunes in order to reinstall iOS 6.1. Or you can try using the iPhone settings. Tab Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings which should force the phone into recovery mode and begin a download of iOS. You will need a solid WiFi connection, and I suggest you keep the phone connected to the AC charger.
