HT4623 Purchased 3gs which was locked to Tmobile germany by previous owner - has been restored to factory settings but wont let me activate and says to try later

Please help, bought 3gs off ebay which stated was locked to tmobile germany. has been restored to factory settings but wil not let me activate

The phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. The hack did damage that is now preventing it from being able to activate at all.
It may or may not be fixable, but we can't help you with it here.
If it was misrepresented by the seller, file a claim with ebay and get your money back.

hi can anyone help i bought iphone 3gs off a freind today i restored back to factory settings and it wont let me activate iphone

What error do you receive when trying to activate?
Are you using the same Carrier as your friend, or a different one?
If different Carrier, are you certain the iPhone is unlocked? A locked device will of course prevent you from using SIM cards not from the Original Carrier that the device was locked too.

Hello there, i have an i Phone 3GS which was locked on the network Orange from U.K i finished the contract last year, but some how i cant unlock it to be able to use on a different network. tried to restore it on itunes but it says unable to process at this time.

under UK legislation, if your are out of contract (and not owing the carrier any debts!) they are LEGALLY obliged to unlock you, and within a certain number of (few) days.. search OFCOM for the regulations.
That said, they are also entittled to charge you for this (usually about £20!)
I believe, that this can also be done via an APPLE STORE, but the first option is always the Origional Network carrier.
Orange has a terrible repuation now for customer service (which is just one reason they changed their name to EE!, and yes, this is fact which is why they came Bottom in several recent customer satisfaction surveys.. so they are not going to rush to help you leave them are they..)

From this Apple support document: iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the headingBlocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • I upgraded my iPhone 4 from iTunes to 5.0.1. Now everything is gone; photos, contacts, all gone.  It has been restored to factory defaults.  All I did was push the button to download and install.  How can a programmed upgrade to this?  Is there any way to

Is there anyway to restore back to where I started?  I just downloaded and upgraded, hands off.  But it looks like the phone has been set to factory defaluts.  I saw a message to that effect but then the process continued and I thought it was restoring my data.  Am I in the tank?

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

Will the iPad power up by holding down on the power button until the Apple logo appears on the screen? If it does, try restoring using recovery mode.

  • I have an ipod 4th gen. and it locked itself for 23 million minutes. I know how to clear everything off of it, and return it to factory settings, but I want to check and make sure I'm backed up by itunes or icloud first. How would I check?

I need to find a way to make sure I'm backed up by icloud or itunes before it's reset.

For iTunes backup go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and look at the date of the late backup.
For iCloud backup you have to have another iOS device signed int iCloud and then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and look.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:
    Disabled Recovery-must use syncing computer.

  • I am selling my Mac Mini. I recently purchased OS X Lion. When I restore to factory settings, how can I ensure that the operating system will still be Lion, and not the original operating system, which I believe was Snow Leopard?

If you bought Lion from the App Store, you can't legally or practically transfer it, because it's tied to your Apple ID. Reinstall the original software from the discs that came with the machine.

Do I need to deauthorize the ipod or perhaps erase all the downloaded ipieta stuff and start over?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch.

  • I bought an app which was free. To get the full version I then paid for it. I used it for months and now it's saying I have not got the full version and I no longer have access to the full app like I used to.

Try contacting the app support of the particular app your using.
Most apps have an app support button on their app page within itunes.
If they wont reply within a reasonable amount of time and you feel like the particular app developer has cheated you, bring the issue forward to apple care.
Note that app developer have their own customer support.

  • I want to reset my Macbook Pro back to factory condition because I want to completely eradicate Mackeeper which the previous owner (it is preloved) had downloaded. But I don't want to lose the Microsoft Office that she had installed previously. Help?

I recently bought a pre-loved Macbook which has been sparsely used but I only realised Mackeeper was installed after I got back home. I did a thorough check previously before I bought it but I didnt know what Mackeeper was until I checked it out online. I want to get rid of it completely and the only way to do that is to reset my Macbk to factory mode but by doing so, I will delete Microsoft Office too and the previous owner had lost the key product no and the neccessities to reinstall the software. I have seen others say something about moving it to an external hard drive but I don't have one and I think it would be costly? Please, any experts on this matter come forward and give your best opinions. Thanks!
    Additional info -
    Software type: OS X 10.9.2

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1a. If you don't own another Mac
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
1b. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    2. Partition and install OS X
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In thePartition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.
