Can I update my iPod touch (1st generation) to the current IOS?
Or at least to 4.3 so I can run Minecraft on it?

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

I have been trying to update my iPod touch 1st generation to iOS 3.0, but whenever I try to update through iTunes, it tells me "2.2.1 is the current software version." from what I understand updating to iOS 3.0 is fairly possible. I was just wondering how I go about doing this.

- I would start with the following unless you revoed and reinstall all Apple software, not just iTunes:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

iPod touch 3rd or 4th gen can go up to 5.0.1 (and future updates).

Chances are, no. iOS 4 requires more power than the iPod Touch 1G was made with.

TS1702 I restored my iPod touch 1st generation and the App Store won't let me download apps I previously had.

I got an iPod touch 1st generation and downloaded loads of apps, some paid some free. A few weeks ago I restored the iPod touch and when I went to download apps that I had already owned it said I needed a newer iOS. It says I need iOS 4.3 and I have iOS 4.2.1 and when i tried to update it says I have no software updates.

It is true that your 1st generation iPad is already now running the highest version of iOS it can. It cannot be updated further. If the developer has pulled the older versions of their apps and now only offers versions requiring iOS 5 or 6 then you will not be able to run those apps any longer (unless you kept backup copies of the older versions in iTunes on your computer).
Developers determine what version(s) of their apps are in the App Store. As many have updated their apps to take advantage of the enhancements in iOS 6 , they've pulled their older versions and no longer support them.

Any way to update an ipod touch 1st generation?

I have an ipod touch, first generation 16 GB. I have used it very little since getting it a few years back, just for music really. From what I can tell I have version 1.1.5 (4B1). I was wondering if I can update the system to be able to run apps and such, like the newer ipod touches? Or am I stuck with just being able to use the internet, itunes, and listen to music on it? If I can update, how do I do it?

No more software updates for iPod touch 1st generation?

I have been attempting desperately to update the software on my first generation iPod touch, but iTunes continues to tell me that the 2.2.1 software is the most up to date version. I know this cannot be true considering the iPhone 4 software is currently be offered as a free update.
Without any further updates, I can no longer use many of my favorite apps. Is there some fix I can try to get my iTunes to update my software?

IOS 3.1.1 Software Update for iPod touch 1st generation failed.

The downloading process was stucked in the Thank You screen ("Your update is downloading... ") for more than 2 hours and not going anywhere, nothing was downloaded at the end. Anybody has the same issue before?
Reported to the help desk for more than a month, got a reply saying it is an ongoing issue and is still under investigation!
I use the same PC to sync my iPad and had no problem to update it with the latest iOS software.
What could be wrong?

If, under "Requirements" it say ipod touch, then yes it will work.
If, under "Requirements" it say iphone, then no.
Look at the requirements. This is why they are posted in the product description in itunes.
