HT4623 when you restore games from your iPod touch that are backed up to the cloud, does it restore your game play history as it was at the last backup?

grandson loaded up the iPad touch we gifted him. iTunes (he uses a PC at home) says to restore factory settings.  we understand that will wipe data from iPod touch - but we did confirm his "Minecraft" app and a half-dozen others were backed up as recently as 1 pm today.  If we restore to factory settings, then "restore" his iPod from the iCloud back up, can anyone confirm his "gameplay" will also be restored as of the last backup?  Not a gamer, never had this concern...  I know his Purchased Apps are still on iTunes, but he's panicked about losing his minecraft "score."

Yes it you restore from iCloud backup game status will also be restore provided that the app is still avaialbe form the App store.

  • Is there a way to differentiate from two iPod touches that are on the same iTunes acct when using iMessage? When one child sends a message the other gets it and it says it's from our email address.

Both of my sons have iPod touches. I set them both up on my iTunes account. The problem we are having is when they are using iMessage. When one sends a message the other also receives it. The message is labeled as from my email address. Is there a way to differentiate the 2 iPods?

  • When I iMessage people from my iPod touch that don't have my email in my contacts, who does it say it comes from on the other persons iOS device? Is it my email or the name associated with my apple id?

If its my email, how can I change it to be my name?
Thanks in advance for great answers!!!

    Hi,
In iMessages both from an iOS device or from the Mac Messages beta the name your "send" is the Apple ID
iPhones obviously do have to option of "sending" from the phone number (and in fact do if no Apple ID is used)
The person at the other end sees is whatever they have for you set up in their Contact list.
In this sense it works the same way iChat does.
If you have your Buddies Screen name in the Address Card then ichat will display their Full Name  (If you have iChat set up to do so as it can be the Short Name (nickname) or even Handle (Screen Names) )
What is sent between Buddies is the Handle or Screen Name it is the iChat or Message Software reading the Address Book that changes it to the "Names" of your Buddy.
The same is true of the Contacts List (Address Book entries) for anyone you are iMessaging.

  • HT1420 How do I get the songs transfered from my IPOD touch that are on the player but the sync won't transfer?

How do I transfer songs that are on my IPOD touch to my new PC? It only recognizes songs I purchased on itunes?

    That is correct.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only excetion is itunes purchases.
The music came from your computer in the first place and should still be there and in your regular backup copy of your computer.

  • How do you transfer content from an iPod touch to iTunes?

How do you transfer content from an ipod touch to itunes without buying another software?

You can't.  Mobile devices are not set up to transfer most items to a computer and if that's what you want to do (with the noted exception) then you have to pay for it.
Some of the information below has subsequently been summarized and duplicated by turingtest2 in the document: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Can I get the library from my Ipod touch next generation back to my PC?

Can I get the library from my Ipod touch next generation back to my PC?
My PC got a virus and I had to reinstall windows from scratch so I lost most of my music. I had a backup program that died in the middle of it so only half came back. the only place that I have all the songs is on the ipod. if I let it sinc it will loose the half that I do not have.
Any ideas on which direction I should go?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.

  • HT4859 My phone was stolen.  I synced with my computer and lost some pictures that are backed up on the cloud.  How do I get pics from the cloud that are not in my photostream?

My phone was stolen.  I first backe up from the icloud but then synced with my computer and lost some pictures that are backed up on the cloud.  How do I get pics from my old phone which are backed up on the cloud but are not in my photostream?

If you have an iCloud backup, restore it to your phone as explained here: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.  If you have a backup on your computer instead, restore it to your phone by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup.

  • HT4623 when you restore your iphone do you loose all data

When you restore your iphone do you loose all data????

When you restore all new - you will lose text message, pictures.. however you can sync back contacts/apps/music via itunes.  IF you imported your pics to your computer you can sync it back with itunes.
If you restore from backup - then no data loss.

  • How can you transfer data from an ipod touch to the itunes library without having all your data deleted?

I have a laptop and the hard drive had to be replaced because it WILL NOT work (This broken hard drive will be refered to as "HD1" from now on). So I had no choice but to have HD1 replaced with a better hard drive (the new one will be refered to as "HD2" from now on). I had HD1 for about 5 years, but what is stuck on HD1 is my itunes library will all of my music, like I said before HD1 will not work so I cannot retrieve any of my itunes data, or any data to be exact. But also, my data that was synced in HD1's itunes library is also on my ipod touch, which is still functional for the time being. HD2 has been installed and working perfectly and I installed itunes on it as well. If I synced my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library, all of my music on the ipod touch will get deleted. What I'm trying to do is have all of my music on my ipod touch transfered to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted.
    Key things to remember:
-"HD1" is my broken hard drive
-"HD2" is my new and awesome hard drive
-I can't access HD1 at all because it doesn't work
-I have an ipod touch with all of HD1's music on it
-HD2 has an empty itunes library on it
-I need a way to transfer all the data on my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted
Is there someone, anyone who can help me out with this?

I think so when you sign in your itunes library with your apple id which you were using on HD1 the data will be transfered or simply use icloud.

  • HT1727 If you buy something from an Ipod touch how can you get it on your computer?

I bought a song on my ipod touch because It obviously has internet and I thought it wouldn't be a problem. I was able to download the song and listen to it on that ipod touch without any issues, however, I would like to be able to burn it to a cd, listen to it on my computer or otherwise be able to use it besides just on that ipod and I am unable to. Is there any way to do this? I thought there was since I have 2 other computers registered under this Apple ID...
I have even tried using outside software (Pod Revolution) which has worked in the past to back up music but it doesn't work this time because the song does not even show up on the device when I plug it in and open pod Revolution. I do not know why this one particular song is being so difficult, if anyone can help me please let me know.
Also this is an older ipod (3rd gen) that is actually one that was my boyfriends and he gave it to me. I am not able to do the latest update IOS 6 because it is an older ipod, I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it

You should be able to copy it over to your computer's iTunes by connecting the iPod to it and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.
Or, and depending upon what country that you are in, you might be able to redownload it directly on your computer's iTunes via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage

  • How do you transfer songs from my iPod Classic to my new computer? The only songs that transfer are those that I purchased on iTunes. Is there a 3rd party website or something?

I am trying to transfer 3000 songs from my iPod Classic to my new computer. The only songs that transfer are those that I have purchased on iTunes (242 songs). All of the music from my CD collection that I have on my iPod Classic will not transfer. What (if any) is the best 3rd party website that will assist?

  • How do I remove songs from an ipod touch (that we never put on there)?

My daughter has a 5th gen ipod touch. When she opened it tonight, there are songs on there that we never put on it. I plugged her ipod in and opened itunes and the songs showing on the ipod are not showing up as being on the ipod when we are looking at itunes. In other words, when I am in itunes on my pc, when I click on music under her ipod's name it only shows a few songs (the ones we manually added) but not the ones showing up in the music app on the device. I have it set to manually manage music and always have. How do we get them off the ipod? I have home sharing turned off in the ipod and cloud is not enabled. How did they get on there and how do I get them off? These songs were not all bought through itunes but they are in itunes on the pc.
Also, "show all music" in the ipod settings is not on. Also, these songs were not on it yesterday. She listens to music every day using the shuffle feature and up until tonight, only the few songs she manually added would play. Now they all want to play (and it's not all of the songs from itunes either, so I'm not sure what made just these songs show up).

automatic downloads is turned off and already was. Nothing happens when I swipe left and right on songs that are not supposed to be on it (and they are also not showing as being on the ipod when it's plugged in). I don't think the songs are actually on the device but they do play when she shuffles her songs and she doesn't want that. And there's no rhyme or reason about which songs are showing in the songs list.
As for syncing, the ipod had not even been synced since we first bought it and put songs on it. The correct songs were on it the entire time until yesterday. It had not been synced at all (only plugged in to charge and itunes was never turned on while it was plugged in). What is involved in "syncing correctly"? Don't you just hit the sync button in itunes? We have 5 ipod touches in our household and have since 2009 or so, so we aren't complete beginners when it comes to them. We've synced before.
eta: for now I've created a playlist of the songs she originally wanted on there, so that she can at least shuffle through just those songs. We'd still like to solve this though.

  • How do I remove a podcast episode from my iPod touch that has been deleted from iTunes?

I have a podcast episode that I would like to delete from my ipod touch. I have removed the episode from itunes, but it remains on my touch when I sync. I have even deleted the podcast from itunes, sync, and it still remains. I am able to download and delete new episodes, but no luck on removing this episode. Has anyone had this happened to them and how did you resolve the problem.
