How can I store files on iCloud?

Actually, I have found that this is very possible, combining several other tips from around the web, though perhaps not easy.  I am using Moutain Lion.  I am assuming that you have already activated and signed into iCloud previously.  Here are the steps for creating a cloud storage location that you can drage any file into, and access from any of your Macs:
    1) Create a new folder in the directory that is synced with iCloud.  Start by opening a Finder window, and going to the ~/Library/ directory.  Do this by typing Shift-Command-G while the Finder is open, and typing ~/Library in the goto window.  Next, open the directory "Mobile Documents".  Finally, Control-Click inside the Finder and select the "New Folder" option, naming it whatever you like -- I chose "iCloud".
    2) Step two is about creating a shortcut to this iCloud folder in the Finder.  You cannot directly drag the iCloud folder into the Favorites section of the Finder, but you can do this:  Control-Click on your new folder, and select "Make Alias".  Now, drag this alias over to your Favories panel in the finder.  You will be prompted whether you really want to move the Alias out of iCloud: Say "Yes".  Now, delete the Alias -- you don't need the original instance of it any more. (Alternatively, you can skip to the end of step 3 and drag the symbolic link into the Finder Favorites)
    3) Step three is about being able to access this iCloud folder from the Unix command line, and from the Desktop GUI.  Open a Terminal window (Launchpad => Other => Terminal).  By the way, I recommend putting the Terminal into your Taskbar, if it isn't already.  You should be in your home directory ... to verify, type "cd" and press Enter.  Now, create a Unix symbolic link (an Alias won't work for this) to the actual location of the iCloud folder:
Type "ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud/ iCloud" and press enter.  The command should be entered precisely, I recommend cut and paste.  The first character is a lower case "L" and there is a space after the backslash between "Mobile" and "Documents".  You should now have a symbolic link to the iCloud folder created.  To view it in the Finder, go to your home directory: Shift-Command-G, and then enter "~/" into the window.  You should see a folder called "iCloud" there, with a little arrow animation in the corner.  You can drag this into the Taskbar to have a permanent clickable shortcut.  You can also access the contents of this folder through the terminal.  From your home directory, just type "cd iCloud" and press Enter.  You are now in the iCloud folder (or more properly, your local version of it), and can use the usual Unix tricks ... "ls" to list contents, "mkdir ABCD" to make a new directory called "ABCD", "mv a.txt b.txt" to rename a file "a.txt" into "b.txt", etc.
    4) Step four is about accessing this folder on other machines.  On a second Mac, repeat all of the steps above *EXCEPT* for creating the New Folder in step 1 ... it already exists, but you can get it into your finder bar, and create sym-links in the same way from there.
The great thing about this is that when you work, you are editing a *local* copy of the file, so you can work offline if you like.  Then, whenever you have internet access, the *actual remote* cloud copy of any new or modified files is uploaded.  Likewise, updated files are downloaded from the cloud to get your local files into sync.  You have the benefit/safety of a local hard copy, AND the portability (and extra safety) of cloud storage.  It's exactly what I wanted, and it works like a dream.  Plus, time machine can back up your *local* copies, to maintain version history.  I'm not quite sure what happens if you try to simultaneously edit a file from two places, but don't do that.
    Hope that helps you!

  • HT4847 how can i store ms office files in iCloud?

how can i store ms office files in iCloud?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To store Office files on iCloud, you need Numbers, Keynote or Pages, depending of the files you want to upload (Word, PowerPoint or Excel).
First, if you haven't done it, open App Store and purchase Keynote, Numbers and/or Pages. Then, if you have OS X Mountain Lion, when you open the app, you will see an iCloud window where you can drag your Office documents to be uploaded to iCloud.
If you don't have OS X Mountain Lion, open http://www.icloud.com, login with your Apple ID, select iWork and drag your Office documents

  • How can I retreive my photos now that photoalbum starter has been discontinued?

I tried to register but was told that adobe no longer supported this product. I tried unlocking with the code 79f38d43 but the unlock screen only gives me the option to exit without unlocking. When I downloaded the photos off my camera the program deleted them from the camera so now these locked images are the only copies. Can anyone help?

    Hi,
It is likely that your photos are somewhere on your hard drive.  This was a really good product that I wish they still supported. I'm guessing you are on Windows so I'll give you the way to find them for Windows.  If it's Mac, it's slightly different but the same idea it's just different selections to do the search. I also don't know how sophisticated of a user you are, but I'm judging you aren't really technical, so if I'm too detailed in my instructions here, please forgive me I just want to be sure you find them.  It's a very anxious situation when you think you've lost your pictures. Experienced and technical users have their own ways to do these things that are quicker and easier and I know that.  But I'm absolutely sure this way will work so you may know of another way to do any part of this.  But I'm writing these instructions in such a way that there is no ambiguity or uncertainty for different Windows configurations, personalizations, or setups.  I'm almost certain these steps will ALWAYS work.  I'm also assuming that Photoshop album isn't working for you anymore and that windows is the only way you can see them.
The Basic idea is that you need to search your hard drive for the photos using the time they were created.  First, I'll tell you how to get to the place where you can search, then I'll give you some ideas of what criteria you should search with from very specific to more general. Luckily Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition imports them to the hard drive and stores them just like any other Windows file.  The tags, collections, and timeline and all that stuff is within the program, but unless you tell the program to delete the file specifically, it's probably still there.
To Search the whole computer in Windows:
    Left-click the Start button
Right-click My Computer to get a little menu
Left-click the Search option from the menu
This will give you a dialog box or window that says Search Results at the top.  The choices you make here will determine how many results you will have to sort through to find what you want.
The Simple way (if they are typical picture files) LOTS OF RESULTS
    Left-click Pictures, music, or video
Left-click the box next to Pictures and Photos
Left-click the grey box that says Search
This will then search your entire computer and all the hard drives, memory cards, cameras attached to it for anything that looks like a picture and put the results on right hand side of the Search Results box.  It will look in My Pictures first then go on to the rest of the hard drive then everything else and it will skip the obvious places like the "system" and "hidden" areas for your pictures.  So, the good thing is that if it is in My Pictures, which is likely, your pictures will be at the top of the list.  You don't have to wait till its' done, you can look while it's searching and if you find the pictures, click the grey button that says Stop (same button that used to say Search).  Then you can do what you want with the pictures
On my computer, it gives me thumbnails of each picture it finds, but yours may give you a list.  If it is a list, and you want thumbnails, click the View choice at the top of the Search Results, Thumbnails window to get thumbnail pictures.  You can scroll through the list and look at all the thumbnails for your picture.  WARNING: IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF PICTURES THIS CAN TAKE A VERY LONG TIME (HOURS IS POSSIBLE) TO MAKE ALL THE THUMBNAILS
If it's a list, you might be able to tell by the Date Modified or Date Created if one of these things is what you are looking for.  If you see one you  then you should open it up and look at it to see if it's what you want.  If you have always used Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition to do that and need help with that you can write another message here asking for help.
If you don't find it this way, it may be identified as something other than what Windows calls a picture.  If that's the case, close the Search Results window, repeat the To Search the whole computer in Windows, steps above, but then
    A TIME-SPECIFIC WAY
    Left-click All files and folders
Left-click When was it modified and specify when the pictures were taken and/or when you put them on the computer.  Don't choose I don't remember. Make a guess to narrow down the list you will get. Try the date you think you put them on the computer first.  If you don't find something you recognize, try the date you took the picture.
Left-click the grey box that says Search
If you still can't find it, repost and I or someone else will try and help you, but you should find them this way.
    Good Luck
PS I ask anyone who reads this and thinks that this is the "long" way to do it to just refrain from criticizing my instructions.  This isn't the way I would do it either, but I don't think leilah is all that technical so I'm trying to make it foolproof versus quick

It just does't sync. I connect it to itunes, but nothing happens. Where it says how much space I have, it's just on ebig bar that says other. I can play my music on itunes, but not when i unplug it.
All of my photos were gone, i took and saved them with my ipod.
The photo app is saying restoring.
    What should i do?

What a crappy design. This is where Android is so much better. It seems to me like you have no control over your iPhone. It does whatever Apple has designed it to do without asking you first. On Android you can actually go in see all folders, document files, photo files etc and you have so much more control of everything. Apple s..cks!

IOS 7.1.1 doesn't show a "days to sync" parameter anywhere in SETTINGS/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/ACCOUNTS/GMAIL Account/ GMAIL Acccount Info.  There is nothing in iTunes relating to such an option either.  So, it seems I'm back to square one.
If you have a decent mail provider like Microsoft Hotmail or Outlook.com mail it does.
If you have Gmail it does not.  Quite right. Gmail is rubbish.

  • From a PC, how do I store a photo into Photo Stream so that I can access it on iPad?

From a PC, how do I store a photo into Photo Stream so that I can access it on iPad? Like, a Word document can be dropped into iCloud from my PC and it will appear when I open iCloud from my iPad.

    From your Windows desktop
From your Windows desktop, drag any photo to the Photo Stream Uploads folder you chose in the iCloud Control Panel.
Note:   Photos in Photo Stream appear in the order they were originally taken, not in the order they were added to Photo Stream. If you manually add photos, they appear throughout Photo Stream in the appropriate date order.
For a list of file types that can be added to Photo Stream, go to the Apple Support article Photo Stream FAQ and see “What photo formats does Photo Stream support.”

My phone was stolen.  How can I get my photos off the iCloud with Snow Leopard.

    Welcome to the Apple Community
You can't, if the photos are in photostream you need a compatible device, if they are in a backup, you can only use the backup to restore to a new device.
