HT4908 how do I enable back to my mac

I'm not sure how to enable bac to my mac laptop. I'm not sure Icloud set up correctly.  I have a mac desktop and a mac laptop and would like to share information.  Having trouble with the icloud back to my mac set up.

I am able to use Back to My Mac (BTMM) after obtaining an iCloud account.  To get both File Sharing and Screen Sharing to work between my Mac Mini and my Mac Pro (both running Lion 10.7.2), here is what I did:
On both machines (or however many Macs you have), click on System Preferences --> Users & Groups
Make sure that the email address listed next to "Apple ID" is your iCloud ID (i.e. [email protected])
Also go to System Preferences --> Sharing and make sure that File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both checked.
After you have changed these settings on each Mac, start Finder.  Your shared Mac icon should be visible in the sidebar under Shared.  If not, go into the Finder Preferences and under the Sidebar tab, make sure Back to My Mac is checked under the Shared heading.
If you still have problems, try restarting both Macs.
To use File Sharing, start Finder and click the icon for your shared Mac under Shared.  In the top right corner of the window, there is a button labeled, "Connect As..."  Click this and enter your iCloud ID and password.  To use Screen Sharing, click "Share Screen..." and enter the same information.
I hope this helps,
jjw

  • How can you enable back the Android native Menu button in AIR 2.7?

I've noticed in AIR 2.7 for Android, that now the bottom icons in Android 3.0 Honeycomb are hidden (replaced by small dots) in AIR 2.7, whereas in AIR 2.6 they were always visible. That's cool. Since the bottom bar can never be hidden in Android 3, at least now those icons are less visible (unless you intentionally touch the bottom bar, then the icons show up for a few seconds).
BUT I also noticed in AIR 2.7 compiled apps, the native "Menu" icon is not visible anymore, even after touching the bottom bar. In AIR 2.6 you could see and press that button (which can be captured from AIR so you can show a custom settings menu or whatever).
So, quoting the subject --> How can you enable back the Android native Menu button in AIR 2.7?

There is a work around and a reason for the menu issue.  Honeycomb doesn't natively support a menu softkey, it is only to support old apps comiled in phone API levels.  If you compile a Honeycomb app in 2.7 or 3.0, it is expected you manage the settings within the larger tablet UI framework.  See below link for more info and work around.

  • HT4907 Password Issue when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in iCloud Preferences - HELP?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have a problem enabling Back to My Mac. When I try and enable B2MM in the iCloud preferences window, I am asked to enter my Apple ID password. It says the password is incorrect, even though it IS 100% correct. I've even tried resetting my password (so that the password lives up to the latest security requirements for passwords, etc). So, it's definitely correct, and I'm able to login to my Apple account here (on this Apple laptop as well as on my iPad and iPhone)... it's not an issue when I log in anywhere else... I am only told my password is incorrect when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in the iCloud preferences pane.
    Help?
    Many thanks!

Do these make installation of memeo superfluous? Would I need memeo for daily back up?
From what I gather, you couldn't pay me to use Memeo, nor actually a Seagate enclosure, nor many USB only drives, (USB is not bootable on PPC Macs).
I've used maybe a few dozen backup Apps on the Mac, and I'd personally judge only Apple's Time Machine worse than that one.
If you had it to do all over again, you'd get a case with Firewire, one with an Oxford chipset, not containing a Green Drive, not a Seagate Drive, not less than 7200 RPM drive, & a 32MB Cache, not with a One-Button touch feature, ( not a Bus powered drive like...

So where are we now on the Drive?
Does it show up in Disk Utility? Can you repair it there?

  • How do I make Back to My Mac Work on 10.4 Server

How do I set up Server 10.4 to work with Back to my Mac. I am using my mac as a router to the internet. Internal to the Internet and an apple Ethernet card serving the other dozen or so devices. Looking at mobile me it says that I do not support NAT-PMP or UNP. NAT is on. ANy ideas anyone?

You don't say what machine(s) you want to connect to from where.
You could perhaps setup a port forward UDP port 4500 using NATural to a specifik machine on the server LAN.
Or use the VPN server so you can connect from Internet to any machine on the server LAN using remote access instead of screen sharing.
If you don't have Remote Desktop Admin you could use a VNC client like JollysVNC (I haven't really tried Back to my Mac).

  • I run windows on my mac for school. went into windows and cant get back to mac. how would i get back to the mac i love

i run windows on my mac for school. went into windows and now cant get back to the mac i love please help

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • How can l get back on my mac iphoto application ?

l've been cleaning my computer and erase everything , redownload everything online with update , and after this with surprise , iphoto application is gone, anyone knows please how to get it back?
    Thank you in Advance.
    Laurent.

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • Aperture library corrupted - have photos on iPad; how to get them back on my Mac?

My Aperture library became corrupted after a Time Machine restore. For some reason, half the photos are missing and videos are all scrambled.
I still have my complete Aperture library on my new iPad (in iPhoto for iOS). Does anyone know if there is a way to get the photos off my iPad and back onto my Mac so I can restore my complete library? I will never rely on a Time Capsule for Aperture backups again, learned my lesson!

    deepey,
have you tried the usual trouble shooting after restoring your Aperture Library from Time Machine? If you invested a lot of work into your Aperture library I would try first to fix this, before giving up on it.
If your Aperture Library is referenced you probably need to reconnect the missing masters (select the images with missing masters and select File->locate referenced file).
If your Library is managed, the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools "(repairing permissions and repairing/rebuilding the library) may help, see Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Transfer from the iPad (sorry, I do not have an iPad available right now to try it, only an iPod): Do you have Photo Stream enabled? You can transfer via PhotoStream or use the sync cable - Aperture can see the iPad as a camera and import like from a camera, see: Re: Importing photos on iPad to Aperture

  • How do I use Back to My Mac with other iCloud users?

Under MobileMe, I had a family account. I had the main account, and my mother and father, had email only accounts. Also, as I am the unofficial tech support to some friends, I had their Airport base stations registered under my MobileMe account so I could configure and update them remotely.
I've upgraded myself and my parents to free iCloud accounts. I have an admin account on each of their Macs, but both are set to log into their own accounts on startup.
Now I can't see them in my list of Shared resources in the Finder's sidebar. I have no way of connecting with them, except via iChat, which is (in my experience) less reliable and requires more effort on my parents' part.
Is there a way I can configure iCloud on my Mac or theirs, so that we all appear in each other's Shared list as before?

Unfortunately, Back to My Mac only works across computers using the same iCloud account.

  • How can I use Back to my Mac when my ISP blocks port 1900?

I was just forced to switch ISPs (don't ask...) and it turns out that my new ISP (Astound) lied to me and actually does block port 1900, which means that Back to my Mac (on which I rely) does not work.
Has anyone seen this and found a viable workaround? Preferably one that is easy for my non-technical family to use also, but all suggestions are welcome.
    Thank you!

So, I convinced my ISP to open port 1900 and they did, but it's still not working.
I get two messages that make no sense to me, but I hope indicated something that someone here can help me undertstand...
When I open the iCloud preference pane in System Preferences, It says just below the Back to my Mac setting "Configure Router for better performance" - My Airport Extreme is configured with  Back to my Mac and it looks like my account shows a green indicator.
Second, next to the Back to my Mac setting in the iCloud preference pane, there is a button labeled "Details..." When I click that it tells me that "Back to my Mac is not working properly because the DNS server isnt' responding" and suggests I contact my ISP for a different DNS server.
All other internet services - including iCloud services - are working fine. I even tried changing my DNS servers to Google's public DNS servers and nothing changed.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated! Thank you!

  • How do I Block Back to My Mac on my router?

I would like to block Back To My Mac (BTMM) on my network without impacting other network traffic.
Would simply blocking UDP port 4500 work?

You don't say what machine(s) you want to connect to from where.
You could perhaps setup a port forward UDP port 4500 using NATural to a specifik machine on the server LAN.

  • How can I use Back to My Mac using my Apple ID

I'm having problems accessing my other computers using Back to My Mac. I've gone into System Prefference>iCloud and turn on Back to My Mac on all mey devices. I've have also gone into my router settings and opened the appropriate ports. I can see my other divices in Finder. When I go to connect I am given a choice of "As a registered user" which works sometimes and not others and also "Using an Apple ID" when I choose this option my Apple ID appears in the drop down box (and is the only option in the drop down box). Howevere, when I click "Connect" it comes up with Authentication failed to JQ MacBook Air.
    Any Ideas
