How do I restore my backup from ICloud onto my new iPhone?

When setting it up you will be given the option to Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Select this, be sure you're connected to wifi and your external charger as restoring from an iCloud backup can sometimes take quite a while to complete.
If you already set up your new phone, go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings and start over.

The only way to restore an iCloud backup is to start by erasing the phone.   Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Conent and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.

You mean an iCloud backup?  If so, first make sure your phone is running the same or higher version of iOS as the device that backed up was running.  If it isn't, you'll have to update it first in order to restore the backup.
Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.

How do i restore iphone 5 data from an icloud backup??

If you have a computer with iTunes, plug it in and view it in iTunes. Go to Summary and click Restore iPhone. Later, you will have the option to set up your iPhone from the backup you have in iCloud.
If you do not have a computer with iTunes, go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Content and Settings. When you re-set up your iPhone, you will have the option to set it up from your iCloud backup.

I just got a new iphone 4. The dealer started it up. When I got home I wanted to restore it from iCloud? Can't figure out how.

To restore a iCloud backup, first you have to erase your phone. To do it, open Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then, your phone will be erased and you will have to set it up again. During the setup, it will ask you to restore a backup, so select the option to restore a iCloud backup and follow the steps

  • How can I restore data from iCloud

My iPad locked up last night and I had to restore to factory settings to make it operable.  During the process it asked me if I wanted to restore my data and it told me that the latest and only backup was from a few minutes before that time which was AFTER all my stuff got wiped out.  I was able to resync some apps and all my music from iTunes, but I lost a ton of pictures and other files that I thought were SUPPOSED to be safe on iCloud.
So I start reading about restoring data from iCloud and apparently Apple only does this on a NEW device.  What a load of crap!
Does anyone have any idea how I can get my data from the stupid iCloud to my stupid iPad?

The "Apple data" such as contacts, calendars, notes, etc. are not backed up to an iCloud backup, since they reside in the special databases on iCloud.  If you delete some data from a device (e.g. one contact), it is deleted from that device, from iCloud's database and thus from all other devices connected to that iCloud account.
Hence performing a restore from an iCloud backup will not help.
However, if that data was ever on a computer (assuming the computer also synced data from iCloud) and if you consistently perform backups using something like Time Machine on a mac or any number of backup programs on Windows, then you should be able to restore the data from that backup.  For example, on a mac, invoke the contacts app then choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine icon on the main toolbar.  That will allow you to go back in time and choose an older backup to restore.
If you have an iTunes backup on the computer, I'm not really sure that also includes the Apple data stored on iCloud.  It should have the local data.  For example, Contacts can be under "iCloud" or "On My Mac" (or whatever computer you use).  An iTunes restore should restore the data on your computer.
The whole idea regarding an iCloud backup is that if your device ever fails and must be replaced or reset, the backup will restore all the data as it was at the time of the last backup.   The restore will return all the device's settings such as iCloud login, on/off states of data to connect to (like contacts).  Once that's done, the device will connect to iCloud and download the current data.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • Issues restoring iphone from icloud

    Hi,
Every time I try to restore my iphone from icloud it says, "unable to back up from icloude because wireless connection interrupted".  My phone is plugged in and connected to wi-fi...I also tried having my iphone plugged into my computer while backing up.  Neither worked.  What do I do?
    Thanks.

Is your iPhone have a strong Wi-Fi connection? Have you tried testing on another Wi-Fi network?
Take a look at this Apple document -> iCloud: Troubleshooting restore issues with iCloud Backup
    Troubleshooting issues during a restore
If you receive an alert during the restore, be sure to note the text of the message, and cross reference it in the Alert Message matrix in the fifth major section of this article.
Keep in mind that restoring is dependent on being connected to the Internet, so the faster your connection, the faster your restore will be. However, even with a fast broadband connection, it can often take around 1-4 hours per gigabyte to complete a foreground and background restore. If you are traveling between countries, you may need to allocate even more time. iCloud is tuned to provide you with the best service in the geographical location you most frequently connect from, and in regards to iCloud Backup, the geographical region you created the original backups from.
If you receive connection errors, or timeouts, while restoring, you should verify your device has a valid connection to a fast Wi-Fi network and that it's plugged into a power source. Then, let it work. A good way to do this is to start the restore an hour or two before you go to sleep. That way, you can input any needed information after the iOS device restarts and the background restore starts, but you will be less likely to use the phone during the background restore. This will allow it to proceed without interruption. Background restore is designed to allow you to use your phone normally, but if you are getting errors, or having trouble completing the restore, it's best to avoid any possible network interruptions and maximize the resources the iOS device can allocate to the restore process, by allowing it to work uninterrupted. Of course, you can check the status of the recovery by unlocking the screen or by reviewing the progress of downloaded applications or Camera Roll content, but in an error-prone situation, it's best to avoid doing work and launching apps unrelated to the restore process.
As noted earlier, you will receive prompts for your Apple ID and other passwords. This is normal. When you are restoring to a device that you have already backed up from, you should receive fewer prompts to re-enter passwords, but if you are restoring to a new device, it is expected that you will have to re-enter your passwords again. This is done to preserve the integrity of your accounts.

Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings. When you start to set up, then restore to the iCloud backup.
Also, this is a user to user support forum, no Apple here. You have to wait for someone to read your post and then provide an answer, it is not a chat.

  • How do I restore notes from icloud backup to imac?

Somehow my "notes" folder and all contents disappeared from my Mail app on my imac, but the current version is on my iphone and icloud (notes on iphone set to sync to cloud). An older version (15 days old) is also in TimeMachine, but I'd much rather restore from the current notes in icloud.
How do I restore my current notes folder from icloud (or iphone) to my imac?
I don't seem to find the instructions in any other post. BTW, searching for words from the notes in spotlight showed no results on my imac, and it is not in the trash.
Thank you for any suggestions that could work.

I believe in Notes it has an indication what will be shown, in the upper left corner of the app see if there is a spot where you can indicate on Mac, iCloud, etc...I apologize, I'm not on my Mac at the moment and I'm writing from memory. Most of the iCloud based apps (Calendar, Contacts, etc...) have this setting in the upper left of the app.

  • How can I remove iPhone from iCloud when I no longer have the phone?

I switched to a Samsung S4 from my old iPhone 4S, but now I can not get text messages from any of my contacts who have iPhones.  One thing I read to do/try was to remove my iPhone from my iCloud, but I no longer have the phone...how can I do this from my iPad?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iOS has got Messages app, which uses iMessage to send and receive messages. iMessage can only be used in iPhones, iPads, iPods touch and Macs, not on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
You need an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac to remove your iPhone's phone number from Messages. After getting one, open Settings > Messages > Send and Receive, and remove your phone number. After doing this, when one of your contacts choose your phone number in Messages app, it will send a SMS instead of an iMessage
