HT4972 Is there any way to update an iPod Touch with the iOS 4.2.1 version

I bought an iPod Touch from a friend that is the iOS 4.2.1 version. I am not able to download practically any apps and I was wondering if there was any way to update to a higher iOS that way I can get the most out of my iPod Touch. Any suggestions??

Alright, thanks. Hopefully I'll be able to get a new iPod or iPhone soon. Thanks again for the help!

    No.

  • Is there a way to update an iPod touch with an iPad?

I no longer have a laptop all I have in an iPad and I need to update my iPod touch so it has IOS, but I do not know I can do it with that or if I will have to use a computer. If I can is there a special cable that I need to get?

To update an iOS device with less then iOS 5 requires a computer with iTunes and an internet connection.  It sounds like you need to restore your iPod and that requires the same.  Use a friend's computer or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Is there any way to track my ipod touch with just its serial number?

I recently lost my ipod touch at a friends house, and we have been looking for almost a week now to find it. It may have been stolen, as there were other people at his house, but I can't be sure. It does not have i cloud installed. So according to all sources ive checked, there is no way to track it. If there is no way to track the device with the serial number, is there a way to remotely install i cloud on to my ipod? it has been gone for almost a week like i said, so it is unllikely that it has any power left. I know that most likely the answer to both these questions is no, but I dont want to give up yet.

    - The SN will only identify the iPod as your if it is recovered.
    - Since you can't contact the iPod you can't install anything one.
    - Report to police
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod.
    - Look for it the old fashioned way, like if you lost your wallet.
    - Apple will not do anything.

  • Is there any way to find an ipod touch with out the "Find my Ipod" App?

Could I have some one else track it down like some one from a apple store?

No. It must be active on your device, and you must have registered it with Find My Phone service from Apple.

Periodically delete all apps from the recently-used bar (double clickHome button) and power off and then back on the iPod. With iOS 5, the iPod uses more memory (do not confuse with storage) and periodically you have to reclaim memory for use.

  • Why can't I update my ipod touch to the iOS 4.3?

Why can't I update my ipod touch to the iOS 4.3?
I try to update my ipod touch 4th gen. to the new iOS 4.3 software and the thing loads and after the 7-8 minutes or so, when it says "processing file" a pop up says that the network connection has timed out, and to check my network settings. I've tried several different times and get the same result. My wi-fi is working with all three bars and my computer is also connected to the internet. I've tried restoring it but it says I have to get the new software and then I get the same result( this time ipod not restored).... What's going on with my ipod? Anyone help?

    Hi,
Have you tried to see if you have the newest version of iTunes? Also, it may help if you try the following steps.
Download iOS from a third-party website (i reccomend http://whited00r.com/) (as this is a full operating system, it is a big download and may take time on a slow internet connection)
    Unzip the file.
After unzipping, you should now have a .ipsw file.
    Open iTunes
Connect your device and make sure you take a back-up of it first (if you don't all your data will be erased)
Now, while pressing the Restore button, hold down the Alt key (for Mac) or the Shift key (for Windows).
You should now have a window open asking you to choose a file.
Choose the file you just downloaded from whited00r.com
    Press OK
It should start replacing your current OS to the new one.
When this finishes, your device will restart
Click restore from (whatever your old device was called)
It will put back all your apps and information

  • Is there any way to empty my Ipod Touch's email inbox?

Seems that with the update to iPhone OS 3.0 I can no longer empty my email inbox on my iPod Touch. As soon as I delete one message, the email program grabs an older message from the gmail server and I once again have a full inbox of 'unread' messages. As the mail program now always displays 25 new messages on my home screen, no matter how old they might be, the usefulness of the email app is greatly diminished: reminds me of the boy who cried 'wolf,' actually. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Even when I sync my email account via iTunes, the iPod Touch displays read messages as new. Is there any hope?

Are the messages marked as 'new' in gmail when you visit the site? Is your online gmail inbox empty?
The email app on the ipod touch isn't like the mail app on your mac, it doesn't download messages and treat them separately, it just shows you how your gmail inbox looks as if you were looking at it online. If your gmail inbox is full, your ipod inbox will be full. And a 'new' message will appear as new, no matter how old it is, until is read.
And syncing your ipod's mail app with itunes just syncs your account settings, the actual inbox and folders sync with gmail via wifi.
Hope that helps, please clarify if you're having a different problem (i.e. messages you delete from your ipod are returning, or messages you read on your ipod are not being marked as read.)

  • I lost my iPhone 5 and iCloud or find my iPhone isn't on is there any way I can track my iPhone with the serial number or is there any other way ? iCloud or Find My iPhone wasn't installed or on please help

I lost my Black iPhone 5, 2 days ago. Someone stole it. Find my iPhone app wasn't installed, it's not on. Is there any way I can turn on "Find my IPhone" on my phone from my computer or can I track it with the serial number ? Please help.

I guess no but they can't use it because most likely they restored it and the name of your find my iphone will disappear on your computer even if it is on because it does not have your name anymore.

  • Is there any way to charge an iPod Touch while connected to another device?

I'm using an iPod Touch connected to a pico projector (which is plugged into the wall), which of course limits the time I can run a presentation to the battery life of the iPod. Is there *any way* to charge the iPod while the connection port is in use (or otherwise connect it to A/C power)? I'm looking for any and all workarounds, though connecting it to a computer as a go-between is not an option. I'm using the Microvision SHOWWX pico projector, if it makes a difference. Thanks!

Aha - this Composite video a/v cable solved my problem. Not sure why I had such difficulty finding this solution. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A
