HT4972 Upgrade iPod touch 2nd gen with ios5

I am trying to upgrade an older iPod touch with iOS5.1.
When i connect to iTunes it says current version of software (4.2.1) is currently installed.
Can I upgrade my iPod touch 2nd gen with ios5?

No, that model cannot run iOS 5 normally without resorting to hacks.

  • After iOS5 upgrade, iPod touch 2nd gen won't let me edit calendar events

I have an iPod touch 2nd gen with the old processor, so I'm stuck using iOS 4.2.1 on the touch.
Meanwhile, I have a MacBook and new iPad running Lion/iOS 5.
Before I upgraded to iOS 5, I could edit calendar events from either my macbook or from my Touch.  Now, I can't edit calendar events on the Touch, and when I add new ones from the Touch, the options are restricted (e.g., I can't designate which calendar the item belongs to).
Please help!  This functionality is very important to me because I take the Touch to work, but not my other mac devices, so I need to be able to edit on the go.
    Thanks,
    Carl

  • Ipod touch 2nd gen, with os 2.1.1.

I just opened an brand new iPod touch 2nd gen, with os 2.1.1. It had been siiting in a box for a couple of years without being used.
The iTune tried to updated it to os 4.2, but failed.
I guess I need to upgrade to some odler os first like 2.2, then 3, and etc.
    Where can I find them?
Since this 2nd gen iPod, I kindof expect it should be able to be upgraded for free to 4.2 or later.
Where can I find those versions of OS?
    Thanks,
    James

You can only go directly to iOS 4.2.1. Just how did the update to iOS 4.2.1 "fail"?

  • I just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with another how can i get my itunes back

i just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with the same model and cant seem to get my iyunes back

Don't understand question, Changing iPod shouldn't affect iTunes on the computer you sync with.  Plug in new iPod, it should take you through some screens of options asking how you want to setup the new iPod.
Just did this when going from 7+ year old iPod video to iPod Touch 5th gen.

  • Video out on iPod touch 2nd Gen - with dock?

    Hi,
So apparently you can watch videos on your tv if you buy the universal dock for iPod touch 2nd Gen?
How does it work and do you get RCA cables with the dock or do you need to purchase them separately?
Does the dock come with the USB cable or is that a separate purchase as well?
    Sami

    Hi,
    You only need the cable(s)-
    [Apple Composite AV Cable|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB129LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjE0NTAz OA]
    OR
    [Apple Component AV Cable|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB128LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjU4Njcw Mw]
You can then put one of these inbetween in you wish but it is not required.
    [Apple Universal Dock|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB125G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjU4NzcxOA ]
Comes with a remote but of limited functionality with Touch.

  • Microphone apps compatible w/ ipod touch 2nd gen. with mic earphones

will the apps that utilize the iphone's microphone, such as Shazam, be compatible with the ipod touch 2nd gen. once the new ipod earbuds, that includes the microphone, are released?

I think this page has the answer. Apparently, yes, you can with an application called note2self.

  • After upgrading iPod Touch 2nd gen some apps sync over and others do not

After upgrading my iPod Touch 2nd Gen to OS 3, skype and TextFree Unlimited sync over, but 9-Toolbox, Gas Cubby Lite, fring and TooDoo do not. They show up as installed in iTunes, but do not sync onto my iPod Touch. Is this because the apps themselves have not been updated to work on OS 3, or could there be a syncing problem?

OK..last post on this item. I found this post by ipodtouchuder1517 that explains how to move your icons around, ie page 2 to 3, etc
All is well again and I shall now resume checking out the new features my $10 purchased!
    Page 18 of the manual:
    "Customizing the Home Screen
You can customize the layout of icons on the Home screen—including the Dock
icons along the bottom of the screen. If you want, arrange them over multiple Home
    screens.
    Rearrange icons:
1 Touch and hold any Home screen icon until the icons begin to wiggle.
2 Arrange the icons by dragging them.
3 Press the Home button to save your arrangement. "

  • Restoring IPod Touch 2nd Gen with no internet in Iraq

I am a proud new owner of an IPod Touch 16GB in Iraq. At my home base, I have internet on my personal laptop. I am TDY to another base with no internet for my personal laptop and my touch now needs to be restored. Since I do not have internet, iTunes will not let me restore it. My corporate laptop is blocked from ITunes and that is not an option. I will not be heading back to my home station for over two weeks. How do I restore this thing with no internet? Two weeks is a long time to go with no tunes here in Iraq. It upsetting to have paid good money for an item and I can't use the thing because of no internet. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Scott

    Hi, Scott;
First, thanks for being over there. Your service and that of your fellow servicepeople is greatly appreciated.
Anyway, it is true that you cannot restore an iPod touch without an Internet connection. I don't know the technical reasons behind that decision by Apple, but I've not found any workaround.
If I may ask, why do you feel you need to restore the iPod? If you can provide information about the problem you're experiencing, someone here may be able to come up with a solution or workaround short of a full install. Worth the attempt, anyway.
BTW, the opinion of one tech support rep that an iPod touch should not be used in Iraq, or any other country, is absurd. I can just about guarantee that it's not an Apple policy by any means. All I can think of to explain such a statement is that perhaps he was thinking about the difficult of finding an Internet connection in Iraq and that's to what he was referring.
Anyway, if you can post the reason you think you need to restore, perhaps someone can find a solution for you that doesn't require the restore.
    Regards.

  • How does one delete specific photos from ipod touch 2nd gen (with ios 4.2.1)?

I would like to delete some photos from my ipod touch 2g, ios 4.2.1, but I can't just sync it to my (new) computer because then all of them would get deleted because I don't have the photos that I have on my ipod on my new computer. Help!?
    Thanks

    - You can email the ones you want to retain and the restore the the iPod on the the new computer
    - You can use a third-party like PhoneView or TouchCopy (both paid) and maybe the free
iFunBox for Mac | File Manager, Browser, Explorer, Transferer for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
tio copy them to the computer.

  • I literally cannot figure out how to remove songs from my ipod touch 2nd gen. with itunes 11.  Please help.

I can't figure out how to remove songs from my ipod with itunes 11.  And dragging songs to the ipod is rejected as well.  Please help.

I want Steve Jobs Back!!! I'm seriously thinking of converting back to the older iTunes. We have a saying in my country,it goes,"If it's not broke, don't fix it!" Sometimes I think they do updates just to keep busy at their jobs or just to **** us off.I don't have time to learn new software everytime someone at apple gets a bright idea.At least they should think it through and test it well before giving it to us.Apple is not a small company, how come we got to work out all their bugs and problems? I may send them a bill! LOL

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • How do I delete ebooks in Archives on iPod Touch 2nd Gen

The ebooks I've downloaded are listed in my iPod Touch 2nd Gen Archives.  Since they are mostly Library books they cannot be read again.
    1.  How do I delete these books?
I do not have Wi-Fi, but use the Library to download books.
I sync my iPod Touch 2nd Gen with my iMac Snow leopard OSX 10.6.8
My current downloads are through Kindle software (Amazon), others with Eucalyptus...
Bringing up my acct through iTunes and clicking Kindle... NONE of the many books in ARCHIVE on iPod Touch are listed in the iTunes Kindle icon, nor is the Eucalyptus icon shown in this box.  However, Eucalyptus is shown in the list of software icons.
It's no big deal if this Archived Listing on iPod Touch Gen 2 is not taking up any memory, but if it is, I'd like these books to be deleted.
Thank you for your advice.  Frances

That answer is where the problem comes in....
They are NOT AUDIO books, they are just plain normal e-books, for reading.
They do not show up on any lists on iTunes.
I would suppose that only someone who downloads ebooks from the Library would know
how to delete books from the Archives on iPod 2nd Gen.  Audio books are handled differently.
    Thank you for trying.  Frances

  • IOS5 on iPod Touch 2nd Gen

Will it ever happen, or is my iPod Touch 2nd Gen now just a useless hunk of junk that won't work with modern apps, which all seem to need iOS5?

Guys like you crack me up, really....
I mean c'mon...  Do you really expect Apple or any other company to spend money to support obsolete technology?  Do you think that Ford, GM, or any car makers still have parts for cars made in the 1920's?  Its the same thing with personal electronics with one HUGE exception:  Personal electronics become obsolete much, much faster than cars do.
And what's really sad is that it is obvious to the most casual observer than guys like you don't have the time or the inclination to actually do any research before you whip out the plastic, and its also obvious that because you don't have the tiniest inkling as to how quickly technology changes, you get all bent out of shape when you finally realize that you are behind everyone else.
Oh, and while we are talking about obsolete stuff, I have a 30gig 5th gen iPod Video, a  2nd gen Touch and a 30 gig Zune, all of which I resurrected from the dead.  They all  work fine and not one is currently supported by their manufacturers.
I also have a 32 gig 4th Gen Touch and an iPhone 4.   The 30 gig iPod gets used in my truck, I use the Zune when I ride my Harley Sportster so I can listen to FM radio when I want to, the 32 gig Touch goes with my touring trike 'cause I use a Griffin FM transmitter to stream through the bike's FM stereo, and I use the iPhone for making phone calls..
Now really, isn't technology, even if it is obsolete, just freakin' wonderful?

  • I have an iPod touch 2nd gen. Can I upgrade to a higher gen w/o buying a new iPod touch?

I have an IPod touch 2nd gen. Can I upgrade to a higher gen w/o buying another IPod touch? I have an iPhone4 which I love but don't want to get rid of the IPod touch.

No but they usually have one every year. If I had know Id get a free ipod 2 years ago when I bought mine if I got a macbook I wouldve ditched the PC and purchased a macbook and got an ipod as well, it was more of a sarcastic remark and heads up for future possible promotions that seem to be routine, than an actual statement.
PS: if your looking to upgrade and dont know what to do with your old one Id recommend recycle program apple has- 10%off purchase of a new one when you recycle old ipod touch with apple.
