HT5188 Installing apps with VPP codes through Configurator

How does one add an VPP App to a new iPad within Configurator? I have followed the included help files that come with Configurator and they are useless. It states that I should hit the plus sign in Configurator to add an App- once done, then I can go add the VPP xls file. Big problem there. Let's take Pages for example. The school I work for purchased 20 VPP codes for Pages. Initially I simply emailed the codes to the teachers who were giving a few iPads a test-drive. Codes worked great... except now, when I try to use this Configurator utility to setup new iPads with Apps already on there, it will only allow me to add Apps that were actually purchased with my own personal iTunes account (none of the VPP purchased apps show up in the folder of apps). iTunes shows me that I have Pages installed on my iPad, but using the "Transfer Purchases" command did not make Pages (or any of the other VPP code purchased apps) available to sync over to new machines. It acts rather like a catch 22 to my mind. If you bought the app with your personal account, why would you have VPP codes for it? Any clues out there? Thanks so much!

Note this comment in the configurator help. Seems like an issue to me! I'm going to have to do a test and determine if I'll have an issue with free apps.
Important: Apps installed using Apple Configurator are tied to the device they were
installed on, not to a specific Apple ID. To update apps deployed using Apple Configurator,
you must reconnect to the same Mac from which the apps were installed. Additionally,
you can’t redownload these apps via iTunes in the Cloud. Therefore, it’s recommended
that Apple Configurator be used to install App Store apps on supervised or assigned
devices only.

The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

You don't lose them. You can always redownload them from the app store after you log back in with your Apple ID.

Can I export unused VPP codes from Configurator?

We have "unsupervised" many iPads that had previously had Pages and Keynote loaded (we imported the VPP codes to Configurator)
Can I "remove" the codes from Configurator to distribute them differently? When I sign in to VPP the codes are all "redeemed".

To the best of my knowledge, once you import an Excel spreadsheet of VPP codes into Configurator those codes can only be used on that computer. You can install or remove apps from iPads and reallocate apps on that computer but can't take the codes out of Configurator to use them in another instance of Configurator or in an MDM for redistribution.
The exception would be if you wanted to migrate from redemption codes to managed distribution in which case unredeemed codes or codes redeemed through Apple Configurator could be changed to managed distribution licenses. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6015 for details on this process.

Problem installing apps with iTunes!

I have a big problem.I can't install apps using iTunes,because it shows me a message saying that the computer isn't authorized.But it is.Even after authorizing again,it shows the message again.If i install apps with appstore on my iphone,they work but as soon as i sync it with itunes the aplications stop working,i'm guessing because they aren't authorized.I tried everything,restoring my iphone,reseting it,uninstalling all my apple software and nothing.What should I do?

Try these steps:
The following steps will recreate the SC Info folder if it is unusable.
Windows Vista or Windows 7:
1. Open Computer from the Start menu.
2. From the Organize menu, choose Folder and Search Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders," make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
5. Click OK.
6. Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes
7. Right-click the SC Info folder shown and on the shortcut menu, choose Delete.
8. Restart the computer.

Flash Player Install Manager[681:16322] Install failed with error code: 30

OS 10.10, MBP 2011 i7, latest updates. I ran the installer by opening up the app package and invoking the install via terminal. at the 75% mark ( download finishes ) the installer fails. in the terminal I got this maybe helpful error message. any idea on getting flash to install ? its worse because I've run the uninstaller so parts of various websites don't work now

ok, its a permissions error because the installer isn't at the right run level, even asking for my admin password. if I do
sudo Install Adobe Flash Player.app
[enter password]
Installer now runs. it generates a bunch of error messages in the terminal

the install actually finishes though and flash is working… YAH ! but only a semi uber geek would ever figure this out or think to try it. please fix the installer as its got a problem under 10.10

Install failed with exit code 11?

Hi,
I am trying to deploy a language pack and set the override language to English-US which I have created 2 programs for in my package. When the first program runs I am getting an error in the execmgr.log that "Install failed with exit code 11" Any
ideas what this means? When I run this command manually on the machine it works fine:
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\Dism.exe" /online /add-package /packagepath:"en-us\lp.cab"
I checked the dism.log as well but I don't see any errors. Both logs are below, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated TIA

Thanks, it seems as though it is not doing anything now. I just see that the policy has arrived in the log below but it is not installing it? The dism.log hasn't changed at all so it seems that it isn't even executing the command now? Am I missing something
else? I even tried re-advertising it though client center.

Flash Player Install failed with error code: 30

Hi, I want to report a problem with the Adobe Flash Player 13.0.0.182 (Mac OS X, English) installer on OS X 10.9.2. Mavericks. I'm posting this so the engineers will know what to fix in the next update version.
I have a 2013 iMac so according to Adobe blog posts it shouldn't be affected by the invalid cpu instruction issue.
Symptom is the first installer downloads the 2nd, starts to launch it, then quits it with "Error: Unable to proceed with the installation" and a green (success?) checkmark. The GUI provides no other assistance except to "FINISH", which leads to the generic "Adobe Flash Player could not be installed." page.
The system log says: Adobe Flash Player Install Manager[22567]: Install failed with error code: 30.

Regardless... I still recommend "falling back" to 12 until they get this release right for everyone. I've read plenty of posts in the Apple forums from new iMac, Mini and MacBook users who've had nothing but trouble. Even the "gurus" there are linking to Chris Campbell's post here:

Apple configurator and paid apps without VPP codes?

Is it possible to use the Apple Configurator to install paid apps by using Gifted apps?
We cant use VPP as it is not available outside the US and iTunes support suggested the following:
"Create separate accounts for each Apple ID, and there should be one designated "Purchasing account", which can purchase all of the necessary apps as gifts, and then the redemption codes can be sent to the correct Apple IDs"
Does anyone have other workarounds for this situation in case this is not possible?

You could use an MDM solution like Meraki Systems Manager (free) http://www.meraki.com/products/systems-manager/ . Purchase VPP codes for your 1:1 teachers. Add the VPP codes to Meraki and distribute to teachers. That way the teachers wouldn't have to tie back to the AC computer. Meraki (and other MDMs) can do things wirelessly.
You could also email VPP codes to the teachers and have them redeem the codes with their own Apple IDs.
But to answer your question, yes you should create a separate VPP order for carts vs your 1:1 teachers.

"Installation of apps with redemption codes requires a supervised device"...since version 1.2

I have been happily using the Prepare panel in Apple Configurator to install apps for months, but now I can no longer do that. This change came with configurator 1.2:

Now there's no way to install apps on my Prepared devices, and no way to retrieve the redeem codes so that I can Supervise them. Anyone find a solution to this?

I have the same problem but it totaly crash my Ipod I have try to restore but that did not help at all. My display is all mess up and the ipod keep locking up. now apple is telling me to send my ipod back to them

Why doesn't Lightroom appear in my list of installed apps, with the option to update it.

All the other apps appear available to update, but with Lightroom I have to download it and do a fresh install each time.

Sorry, re-reading the info, the path is correct - but it isn't perhaps as clear as it should be; might I suggest changing the wording to something like 'look for the opm.db file located at
/AppData/Local/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db
however - that doesn't solve the issue of Lightroom 5 not being listed in my installed apps!

TS1702 Unable to install apps with iOS 6

After i update my iPhone 4s with iOS 6, I am unable to install apps. Is there any other way other than what's mentioned on this article?

Just to clarify previous message.
1. The article I mentioned was the link above, iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
2. All items mentioned on the said article has been done but issue still exist.

Just lost most user-installed apps with iPhone 4 sync

I just plugged in my wife's iPhone 4 (iOS 6, Mac OS 10.7.4, iTunes 10 -- not 11 yet!), received a message I've seen before about finding items on the iPhone that weren't on iTunes and did I want to transfer them, and thinking that they were tunes I had deleted on iTunes recently, said no I didn't want to transfer them back to iTunes. (This has happened before and I had to re-delete the stuff I'd deleted from iTunes previously.)
Then the phone synced, and lo and behold, I think every single user-installed app on her phone has disappeared. I can't find any record of them on the Apps tab in iTunes, they're just gone!
After some research that yielded no help, I decided to restore her phone from an earlier backup, but the only backup that was available was not dated, and when I restored the phone to that backup, it was in the same state as before -- no user-installed apps!
Doesn't iTunes store multiple backups from which you can restore your iPhone? Shouldn't I be able to restore her iPhone from say, yesterday's backup and get back all those apps?
She wants my head, mates, and I don't even know *** happened?
Please advise, if you have any...

You should be able to go to the App Store on her iPhone, click "Updates" in the lower right, then "Purchased" on top, and see all her purchased apps there. You can restore them from there.

Can you install apps with profile set to disallow installation of apps

If I have a config profile set to not allow installation of apps on the iPad, is there any other way to install apps? Here's the reason I'm asking. I have about 25 users spread geographically throughout the southern United States whose profile has been set to not allow installation of apps (presumably via the App Store as that icoe is removed). But, i want to purchase an app for them to use via the Volume Purchasing Program or even a free app (Dropbox). How do I allow them to install these apps without the App Store on the device?

Get an MDM. Have the MDM send the app to the devices. They will be asked for a password to install.
Or.
Get an MDM. Set the profile to allow app install. Send the app via an MDM. Set the profile not to allow app install.
