Nope. You need an .ipsw file to restore your phone & since your friend didn't have iTunes, obviously there is no current .ipsw file to use. You can go to an Apple store, use your own computer, find another computer, but you can't restore without a current signed .ipsw file.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

I downloaded iTunes onto my CPU and deleted it. Now I can't install it again.

Tried back way to download itunes 8 on a 10.3.9 and now it won't work!
I didn't realize when I bought my new iPod nano that it wouldn't work on my 10.3.9 iBook G4. I stupidly decided to try to download iTunes 8 without having to upgrade my computer. Someone on a blog said that you could download it if you went to /System/Library/CoreServices/ and changed the SystemVersion.plist. So I changed it to a 10.5.5 and it worked to download iTunes 8. However, now when I click on the iTunes icon it won't open. This is the error info I can find:
dyld: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes can't open library: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreVideo.framework/Versions/A/CoreVideo (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Help, please!Not likely. It may be that iT8 got far enough into opening to have altered the structure of your library and made it unopenable using your old version, but I doubt it. If you reinstall the old version, I suspect it will open your library OK.
The library is not stored in the application, so trashing the application will leave the library untouched. Of course without any iT application the library won't be very useful, but you can easily remedy that by reinstalling your previous iT version. If you want to use your new Nano with it, though, there's no way around upgrading your OS. -
I upgraded my iphone last night on the phone, today I cannot get the computer and the phone to work together. When I click restore iPhone, and my only choice is to restore and upgrade, when it starts the upgrade, it says the phone has not been restored. I did just upgrade the itunes on the computer also.
This may not solve your problem but may clear up a couple of things.
1: Re the connected to wi-fi, plugged in and locked thing is for automatic backups. It doesn't need to be plugged in or locked for it to work when you go to Settings > iCloud > Backup and tap Back Up Now. Mine completes the backup quickly without being plugged in or locking (but I don't have a lot to backup).
2: Locked just means the lock screen is on (press the sleep/wake button on top) -- it will work without a passcode (& again, the lock screen on is only required for the automatic backup).
3: You can see what is using your storage and maybe reduce some of it so that you don't have to pay for storage. Instructions in Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support -
I just got an Iphone 5, and it requested an update. I plugged it in and connected it to my home wifi and now I can not use it at all. The only thing that shows on the screen is the itunes symbol. I tried to hold the start button and the enter button, but that does nothing. I have pictures and videos on the phone, is there any way to retrieve them?
Plug it into your computer and restore it. It is in recovery mode. Anything that was on the phone is already gone. If the pictures and videos were not backed up, then there is no way to retrieve them.

If you are using a proxy, try removing the proxy settings, or using a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

As kb1951 states, unless this phone was purchased directly from Apple, it is not officially unlocked. In the US, only Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones. The message you got generally means your phone was hacked to unlock it...jailbroken...Apple's servers have detected such & are preventing your phone from activating...there's nothing wrong with the activation servers.
You'll need a sim card from the carrier your phone is locked to in order to activate it. If you don't know what carrier, you'll have to call AppleCare in the US to determine this info. Be aware, US carriers will not authorize official unlocking unless you are a customer that used the phone on their network. Thus, there is most likely no way for you to get this phone officially unlocked.

You can't. Until the previous owner removes the activation lock, the device is useless to you; Apple won't remove it unless presented with proof that the registered owner is dead.

I just purchased a new iphone 5s and music would not play on it with headphones plugged in. They replaced the phone for me but it continued to do this. So I restored the phone and tried to play music on youtube before I restored all my settings and apps....Any suggestions on common apps that may cause this?
We have tried 3 different brands of headphones, including the apple set and auxiliary audio cord.
Also, music works fine before I load all my apps, hence why I ask if anyone knows about any kind of certain apps causing this. -
I just got an iPhone 4 and I'm trying to use it on the t mobile network. The thing is, I've tried restoring the phone so I could use it. I haven't tried my sim on other phones yet. But I will try to see if it works. The iPhone is supposedly factory unlocked btw. Anyways, when I put in my tmobile sim, it searches for the service, but it always ends up saying NO SERVICE. I checked that my network says that the "phone not allowed". So I don't have 3G on this phone I presume. I heard that you need 3G to have service is that correct? But how do I resolve it? The iPhone does know that my phone carrier is tmobile. It just says no service. And I've tried restoring it three times and turning it off and on and it won't work. I don't have a data plan for tmobile tw! Hopefully someone can help! Thank you so much in advance!
If a phone is sold from one friend to another and wants to use it on a different carrier the friend can contact the carrier it was sold by to request it unlocked. I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money. I sell phones for a living and this happens a lot
