  • Apple tv3 toslink output no sound

I have bough an Apple TV3 only to see the the audio output is toslink and not 3.5mm jack, which is what I have. All the sound systems I found with toslink wore too expensive so following a comment of another user here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3083434?start=0&tstart=0
I bough a toslink to rca converter. So I´m sending the audio from toslink to the converter, then from the converter I have an RCA cable that turns into a 3.5mm jack.
I have my Apple TV3 connected to my projector thru HDMI, but it is sending the sound to the projector aswell (which has horrible sound quality). So how do I get it to send the sound thru the toslink exit instead?
    thank you

The first thing to determine with the audio is to find out which device is a having a problem by using either one (or preferably both) with another known working device.
if your Mac can see 10 other networks it is without much doubt experiencing interference.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different equipment, doing different things, in different locations. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Apple tv3 runs slowly on all apps in the box, after the last update.Picture sometimes run's slowly on netflix ,and all the apps in the apple tv3 box.But the sound is ok.Anyone else have this problem?I have a 20Mbit wireless line, but i had put a cable from my router to my apple box,but it did not help.

Are you using a home network?
    Try the following :
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • AirPlay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV intermittent sound drop-off

I can't stream iTunes or Spotify to my Apple TV without getting intermittent sound drop-out (say every 30 seconds) when I use AirPlay mirroring through my Mac. This odd thing is streaming through my iPad or IPhone to Apple TV is perfectly fine; so is using my Mac to stream to my Sonos speakers. I can even stream iTunes pefectly fine through only the Apple TV alone - so it's nothing to do with my broadband connection
I have today performed upgrades to the Apple TV and my Airport Express firmware but the problem persists. Anyone else experiencing this or found a solution?

Hi, same here for me. Using AirPlay for streaming music from my Mac Mini (iTunes latest version) to my ATV2 (software latest version) has intermittent drop-outs (about every 10 to 15 sec for 5 to 10 sec). At the same time streaming to my Airport Express station in the kitchen works fine. Using the VOX player streaming from the Mac to the ATV works fine, only that I can only stream to one destination. Tried streaming from iTunes to ATV only, the problem remains. Streaming video - even HD - works fine. Using the ATV to select music from my Mac's iTunes library works fine, too. Still I want to stream from my iTunes on the Mac to several destiations including the ATV. Seems to me to be a problem of iTunes. I think the effect appeared after an update of iTunes or OSX, because it had worked fine before, already.

  • Apple tv3 and 7.1 sound

Can i play 7.1 sound with my Apple tv3

    Pcie2005,
Yup, that should be the case it you wanted the sound card to do the decoding instead of the DVD application.

  • Intermittent Sound Dropping When Streaming Audio

I've just step up my new Apple TV and streaming from my shared iTunes library over wireless network is great.. However when I stream using airplay on my iPad 3 or iPhone 5 the sound drops intermittently, as if the signal wasn't getting through, if you know what I mean! sometimes drops altogether and airplay on the device seems to switch off.
I can't see any settings that I could change even if I wanted to (or knew what to!) and it seems strange that it works fine from the pc but not from the other Apple products.
The wireless signal is obviously ok, or could it be the wireless bits n the iPhone/Pad are not as good as in the pc? Clutching at straws a bit here, hope someone out there can help.
    Thanks.

Thanks for posting this because I too have the Pioneer VSX-1019AH and have just noticed this problem. I rarely listen to my iphone (ipod) through my receiver and this problem never occured before until yesterday.
I am experiencing a sound loss at random times, and it takes restarting the receiver, or disconnecting then reconnecting the iphone cable to get the sound back again, only for it to go off again in a few moments time.
Whilst the sound is off, both the iphone and receiver are continuing to play music because you can see the title of the tracks change on both devices. So where the fault lies is hard to tell but I'd say it's with the ios4.
I don't know whether Apple will provide any support regarding this problem but I do notice the receiver has been endorsed "made for ipod" which means it meets Apple performance standards.

  • Sound dropping when iPod connected to stereo - iOS 4.1

Why is the sound dropping when watching videos from the iPod when connected to a TV?
I have a Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K AV receiver with this nice setup (cable and functionality) that lets me watch videos on my TV with the iPod connected to the AVR (USB + composite video cable). The result is not bad, with better video than audio.
HOWEVER after upgrading to iOS 4.1 the sound (not picture) is dropping after various intervals of time (1 - 20 minutes) while plugged into the AVR. When I unplug the connection the video stops and the iPod goes back to the menu. The audio plays normally when restarting the video without the cable and continues to play normally when I plug the AVR cable back into the iPod. On occassions when plugging the AVR's cable into the iPod the sound does not come back, though unpluggin and plugging in again usually does it.
Anyone else have similar issues? I see some issues with apps and battery life under iOS4.1 and a few issues with audio / picture playback:

Have people had similar problems when iPods are connected to AVRs or TVs through composite or component cables? I realize the quality of sound / pictures from the iPod is not superb though it is as good as my sattelite dish. I could just have a computer connected to the AVR via HDMI or similar but well that would mean having a computer just for iTunes.

  • I can hear people on call but sometimes they can't hear me, it maybe fine for afew mins but then sound drops again? Anyone have this problem and find a solution? Thanks.

I have an Iphone 4 13.5 GB, iOS 7.1.2. Currently when I make a call or someone calls me, I can hear people on call perfectly but sometimes they can't hear me. It maybe fine for afew mins but then sound drops again? Anyone have this problem and find a solution? Thanks.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • Canon HF G30 5.1 audio through iTunes and Apple TV3?

    Hi All,
In brief - I've converted the AVCHD movie files to MOV files and MP4 files with ClipWrap and Handbrake, fully expecting resultant files to play surround sound through my system via Apple TV3 and iTunes. I have movies on my iTunes library playing surround sound audio from other movies, so I know it's not an ability issue with my equipment. I've tried various conversions in Handbrake and even by playing just the converted .MOV files imported into iTunes directly - with no success - all I get is stereo output from "6 channel" files.
What major point am I missing please?
Many thanks for your help and patience.
    Cheers
    Chris

    Hi,
I experienced some DTS files in iTunes, with my AirPort Express some months ago, it was working fine on my Marantz receiver. A few days ago I wanted to listen to them again, only white noise... I wanted to rip by myself a DTS-CD, therefore I found this out. Apparently since AirTunes has been turned to AirPlay, it's not working anymore (?) / the same way.

  • FaceTime sound drops half way through a conversation

why is it that the sound drops half way through a conversation and the other person can hear me but i can't hear them

    Hi Kathshirls,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
In addition to the article above, the steps in this article can help with troubleshooting your iPhone if you can't hear and can't be heard while on a call:

  • Sound Drop Out When Attempting to Use Multiple Speakers

Disclaimer: I've spent 3-4 hours searching for the answer, so - I'm posting another "Sound Drop Out" thread.. sorry!
I have 1 new AirPort Extreme, and 3 Expresses. I can stream music to one at a time without much problem. As soon as I try to go to more than 1 the sound gets very, very choppy (this includes 1 airport express and the computer speakers).
My iTunes library is on a USB airport disk shared from the Extreme.
I see many posts about not being able to connect to multiple speakers with Leopard 10.5.1 (which I am using) - but I am not getting the error messages those people are seeing. Also, my firewall is configured correctly.
My network is well within 150ft. The extreme is creating a network, and all the expresses are configured to join the network. I thought of setting up a WDS network, but would this be worth the trouble (I am having problems getting it configured correctly)?
I doubt signal strength is a problem. If I can stream to the express alone, why cant I play to the express and the computer speakers simultaneously? That wouldn't have anything to do with the wireless network signal strength?
Looking forward to your suggestions. I'm spending way too much time getting this to work. Apple is supposed to "just work" -right? LOL.

I think this has to do with the airport scanning for different networks. I have 2 airport express stations hooked up in different rooms, and the speakers drop out all the time. It *****.
But when I watch the airport on my laptop (streaming the music), the time counter next to the airport icon goes away momentarily. I think it's somehow disconnected from the network, or is scanning networks.
There are a number of posts regarding the airport constantly scanning networks, but I haven't found anything yet that helps keep the airport connected. It definitely seems to be worse in the evenings when a lot of people are using their computers.
When your speakers drop out, do the numbers next to the airport icon (on the serving computer) freeze or disappear?

  • NASA TV iphone app NO video ios6 apple tv3

The NASA TV app for iPhone and IOS6, Apple TV3 used to run video fine through airplay to my HDTV. Now only sound comes through. The video does not come through ATV3 at all. Live video from sources such as NBC run fine. Everything is up to date on the iPhone, ATV3. NASATV app has not been updated in a while.
ONLY thing that has changed from when it worked is ATV3 firmware updates. Can anyone confirm (not guess) it is an app problem with the ATV3?
If the app, what link or email to contact for the APP. Can't find one and NASA is a liitle big.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have never had a problem with Airplay and my CBS app until the other day.  I am wondering if an update has caused an issue or if they have done this on purpose.  Although I am not happy to be having an issue, I am glad to see that it's not just me.  Keep me posted if you figure it out!

  • Apple TV3 - I have nothing to work with

    Hi all.
    I just bought a new Apple TV3.
I have nothing in it. just Home Sharing and Settings.
Home sharing *****, Can't read MKV files etc.
Cant mirroring my mac, Too old. AirParrot works terrible (huge delay)
    I AM NOT FROM US.
but, I really think that this situation is ridiculous.
I have nothing but my music files.
    What should I do?

That happens when you have a lot of tracks and try to do a lot of instruments on these tracks. If the iPad can not do playback without dropping out audio, it will try to optimize the performance to allow playback. Besides doing "less" or a faster iPad, there is not much more to do. Audio either plays or does not. It can't do "slower in case the CPU is too slow".

  • Apple tv3 placement

    Hello,
I have recently purchased an apple tv3 with the intention of placing it on top of my Bose wave ii sound system (which generates no heat) as I have no space elsewhere. In the manual it says do not place on top of any other electrical item. Why is this? From what I can see the heat comes out the top and it does not generate much heat anyway. My other question is if I cannot have it on top of the Bose, could I have it on its side or would this cause any problems?

I couldn't say for sure whether using ethernet will eliminate all potential problems of stacking the unit on top of another electrical device. However, I suspect it would significantly reduce any potential problems.
The Apple TV has no moving parts, it won't make any difference whatsoever which way around it is placed, so long as you still have line of sight for the remote to work. I suspect the best solution to your problem would be to install the Apple TV on its side if you can do that as opposed to on top of something else.

  • Is there a cure against apple tv3 being unable to open videos or music from itunes library?

    HI!
I recently bought an apple tv and was trying to playback video and audio files on it.
activation of homesharing has been rather smooth (although i did have to open and close itunes several time). apple tv3 is able to download the library and lets me surf it.
my problems start when i attempt to open more than one video/song (one after another of course). It shows this circle which indicates download but does nothing. i'm able to exit from this screen but any attempt to open any file afterwards brings me the same result - running circle/star with no playback.
i read support info on the apple page and have followed more or less all recommendations, starting with allowing tcp/udp ports, making sure taht itunes is not on firewall, disabling power management on my  wireless adapter, etc.
the most exciting thing is that i have the same problem if i run remote app on my iphone and/or ipad - it stops seeing itunes after a while. at the same time if i pair my ipad/iphone with itunes manually (using 4 digit password) it works smoothly.
tech specs: latest itunes running on win 7, latest software running ipad/iphone/appletv. connection over wifi.
i assume there must be a bug in the way itunes communicates with devices in the apple ID related homesharing. otherwise i can't explain why remote app works smoothly with itunes library in password pairing mode.
Has anyone faced anything similar and found a cure against the problem?
I hear different opinions re firewall, antivirus software (i use kaspersky). i'm not  technical guy but assume if those pieces of the system allow to play one or two songs and then freeze, i don't think that the problem is in those pc.
WOudl be grateful for constructive feedback, hopefully with an easy solution:)
P.S> airplay from ipad, itunes, iphone works perfectly and without glitches.

Is this happening when playing from iCloud or locally from iTunes on your computer?  If it is from your computer is the computer going to sleep?  There is some bug in ATV that causes it to have problems being able to wake a computer that has gone into sleep mode.  Some times it works fine and then sometimes for like a week ATV will not be able to WAKE the iMac.  This can also be a problem if you are using an external hard drive and the hard drive is going into sleep mode. Also is iTunes running.  If iTunes is not on then ATV can not connect to get content.
