Is this music your friend wrote and performed and which you have permisssion to copy? Not being able to copy media from a phone synced to one library to a computer with a different library is probably deliberate to prevent people from distributing music for which they have not paid.

Thank you for clarify I'm supposed to read the ENTIRE article. I thought I was just supposed to read the title and magically everything will fix itself. The music sync is one way - computer to iphone . The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
