Htaccess help

in my home dir or public_html dir i have folder listing that show up by default.
one of my folders has a .htaccess file in that i created to user/passwd protection.
is there a way to keep that in there and still make it show up in the folders listings? is there something i can add to the .htaccess file to do it, that would be best for me?

I've tried and failed recreating your environment on my server using a .htaccess file.
~/Sites
|-dir1
|--index.html
|-dir2
|--index.html
|-dir3
|--.htaccess
|--test1.html
|--test2.html
The content of ~/Sites/dir3/.htacess is:
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /usr/local/apache/passwd/passwords
AuthName "Restriced Files"
require valid-user
I have directory listing turned on, so when I got to http://www.example.com/index.html, I get the list:
dir1
dir2
dir3
When I click on dir3, I get:
test1.html
test2.html
Do you have anything set up in ServerAdmin > Web > Settings > Sites > Realms?

  • .htaccess redirect - help me php masters!

    I created some links incorrectly, links that can not be
    changed. My only hope is to redirect them to the correct pages
    using htaccess but I can't seem to figure it out. Heres what I need
    to do...
    Redirect:
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&id=1723
    To:
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&id=1723
    Notice the "&" in the first url vs "&" in the
    second one.
    I tried this but its not working:
    Redirect permanent /index.php?action=products&id=1723
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&id=1723
    Any help would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,
    J

    Still trying to figure it out. From what I've read it sounds
    like I would need to use modrewrite to accomplish this task but am
    still unable to figure out the solution.
    Here is the full scope of what I need to accomplish...
    1.
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=63&id=1 723
    ---needs to go to---
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=63&id=1723
    2.
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=299&id= 1530
    ---needs to go to---
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&
    sub_action=details&cat=299&id=1530
    3.
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=135&id= 361
    ---needs to go to---
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=135&id=361
    4.
    https://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=154&id=462
    ---needs to go to---
    https://www.mysite.com/index.php?action=products&sub_action=details&cat=146&id=613
    1-3 needs to have all "&" replaced with "&"
    4 is just the wrong link and needs to have the last 2
    parameters changed
    As always any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    J

  • HELP! iphone media player wont play files in a .htaccess protected folder.

    I installed a personal webserver, Apache and configured it to provide access to my .mp3 files. Through Safari on the iphone I can connect to my webserver and see all of my .mp3 files. If I click on one, it fires up the music/media player.. then says "movie cannot be played". NOW, if I remove any .htaccess protections from the folder or server, then it works perfectly fine and will play my files. With the .htaccess set it does indeed ask me for a login/password,which I enter, but it STILL wont play the file. This stinks. Any smart web people out there know how I can use my own web server to access my files while protection them from other people browsing my IP???? Thanks in advance.

    I'm not using secure access (https). I started with the most basic configuration, standard http: on port 80, etc. The configuration works perfectly fine when tested on my home PC. The problem seems to be in Safari on the iphone it prompts me for a login, and accepts it.. then it fires up the media/movie player and I'm guessing it's not passing the authentication/credentials/whatever to the movie player. When the media tries to play, it notes it's an access controlled file and just quits out. The movie player doesnt seem to allow asking of login/password info. Thoughts??

  • A little help with rutorrent

    Hi comrades,
    I use rtorrent in terminal without problems but recently I got interested in rutorrent.
    I've been following the rtorrent wiki and rutorrent wiki to get to this point.
    First of all rtorrent is working fine in terminal, but with rutorrent I only get to this far: http://i637.photobucket.com/albums/uu93 … 1403737709
    As you can see in the upeer right of the image it's trying to connect and in the log section is throwing me this:

    ; PHP files served from www.example.com. Directives set in these
    ; special sections cannot be overridden by user-defined INI files or
    ; at runtime. Currently, [PATH=] and [HOST=] sections only work under
    ; CGI/FastCGI.
    ; http://php.net/ini.sections
    ; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
    ; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
    ; Directives are variables used to configure PHP or PHP extensions.
    ; There is no name validation. If PHP can't find an expected
    ; directive because it is not set or is mistyped, a default value will be used.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
    ; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), a quoted string ("bar"), or a reference to a
    ; previously set variable or directive (e.g. ${foo})
    ; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; ^ bitwise XOR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
    ; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
    ; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
    ; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
    ; sign, or by using the None keyword:
    ; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = None ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = "None" ; sets foo to the string 'None'
    ; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
    ; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
    ; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
    ; PHP comes packaged with two INI files. One that is recommended to be used
    ; in production environments and one that is recommended to be used in
    ; development environments.
    ; php.ini-production contains settings which hold security, performance and
    ; best practices at its core. But please be aware, these settings may break
    ; compatibility with older or less security conscience applications. We
    ; recommending using the production ini in production and testing environments.
    ; php.ini-development is very similar to its production variant, except it's
    ; much more verbose when it comes to errors. We recommending using the
    ; development version only in development environments as errors shown to
    ; application users can inadvertently leak otherwise secure information.
    ; This is php.ini-production INI file.
    ; Quick Reference ;
    ; The following are all the settings which are different in either the production
    ; or development versions of the INIs with respect to PHP's default behavior.
    ; Please see the actual settings later in the document for more details as to why
    ; we recommend these changes in PHP's behavior.

    ; Output buffering is a mechanism for controlling how much output data
    ; (excluding headers and cookies) PHP should keep internally before pushing that
    ; data to the client. If your application's output exceeds this setting, PHP
    ; will send that data in chunks of roughly the size you specify.
    ; Turning on this setting and managing its maximum buffer size can yield some
    ; interesting side-effects depending on your application and web server.
    ; You may be able to send headers and cookies after you've already sent output
    ; through print or echo. You also may see performance benefits if your server is
    ; emitting less packets due to buffered output versus PHP streaming the output
    ; as it gets it. On production servers, 4096 bytes is a good setting for performance

    ; Error handling and logging ;
    ; This directive informs PHP of which errors, warnings and notices you would like
    ; it to take action for. The recommended way of setting values for this
    ; directive is through the use of the error level constants and bitwise
    ; operators. The error level constants are below here for convenience as well as
    ; some common settings and their meanings.
    ; By default, PHP is set to take action on all errors, notices and warnings EXCEPT
    ; those related to E_NOTICE and E_STRICT, which together cover best practices and
    ; recommended coding standards in PHP. For performance reasons, this is the
    ; recommend error reporting setting. Your production server shouldn't be wasting
    ; resources complaining about best practices and coding standards. That's what
    ; development servers and development settings are for.
    ; Note: The php.ini-development file has this setting as E_ALL. This
    ; means it pretty much reports everything which is exactly what you want during
    ; development and early testing.
    ; Error Level Constants:
    ; E_ALL - All errors and warnings (includes E_STRICT as of PHP 5.4.0)
    ; E_ERROR - fatal run-time errors
    ; E_RECOVERABLE_ERROR - almost fatal run-time errors
    ; E_WARNING - run-time warnings (non-fatal errors)
    ; E_PARSE - compile-time parse errors
    ; E_NOTICE - run-time notices (these are warnings which often result
    ; from a bug in your code, but it's possible that it was
    ; intentional (e.g., using an uninitialized variable and
    ; relying on the fact it's automatically initialized to an
    ; empty string)
    ; E_STRICT - run-time notices, enable to have PHP suggest changes
    ; to your code which will ensure the best interoperability
    ; and forward compatibility of your code
    ; E_CORE_ERROR - fatal errors that occur during PHP's initial startup
    ; E_CORE_WARNING - warnings (non-fatal errors) that occur during PHP's
    ; initial startup
    ; E_COMPILE_ERROR - fatal compile-time errors
    ; E_COMPILE_WARNING - compile-time warnings (non-fatal errors)
    ; E_USER_ERROR - user-generated error message
    ; E_USER_WARNING - user-generated warning message
    ; E_USER_NOTICE - user-generated notice message
    ; E_DEPRECATED - warn about code that will not work in future versions
    ; of PHP
    ; E_USER_DEPRECATED - user-generated deprecation warnings
    ; Common Values:
    ; E_ALL (Show all errors, warnings and notices including coding standards.)
    ; E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE (Show all errors, except for notices)
    ; E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_STRICT (Show all errors, except for notices and coding standards warnings.)

    ; it could be very dangerous in production environments. Depending on the code
    ; which is triggering the error, sensitive information could potentially leak

    Hi comrades,
    I use rtorrent in terminal without problems but recently I got interested in rutorrent.
    I've been following the rtorrent wiki and rutorrent wiki to get to this point.
    First of all rtorrent is working fine in terminal, but with rutorrent I only get to this far: http://i637.photobucket.com/albums/uu93 … 1403737709

    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
    ; PHP's initialization file, generally called php.ini, is responsible for
    ; configuring many of the aspects of PHP's behavior.
    ; PHP attempts to find and load this configuration from a number of locations.
    ; The following is a summary of its search order:
    ; 1. SAPI module specific location.
    ; 2. The PHPRC environment variable. (As of PHP 5.2.0)
    ; 3. A number of predefined registry keys on Windows (As of PHP 5.2.0)
    ; 4. Current working directory (except CLI)
    ; 5. The web server's directory (for SAPI modules), or directory of PHP
    ; (otherwise in Windows)
    ; 6. The directory from the --with-config-file-path compile time option, or the
    ; Windows directory (C:\windows or C:\winnt)
    ; See the PHP docs for more specific information.
    ; http://php.net/configuration.file
    ; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and lines
    ; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
    ; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
    ; they might mean something in the future.
    ; Directives following the section heading [PATH=/www/mysite] only
    ; apply to PHP files in the /www/mysite directory. Directives
    ; following the section heading [HOST=www.example.com] only apply to
    ; PHP files served from www.example.com.
${foo})
    ; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; ^ bitwise XOR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
    ; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
    ; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
    ; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
    ; sign, or by using the None keyword:
    ; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = None ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = "None" ; sets foo to the string 'None'
    ; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
    ; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
    ; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
    ; PHP comes packaged with two INI files.
We recommending using the
    ; development version only in development environments as errors shown to
    ; application users can inadvertently leak otherwise secure information.
    ; This is php.ini-production INI file.
    ; Quick Reference ;
    ; The following are all the settings which are different in either the production
    ; or development versions of the INIs with respect to PHP's default behavior.
    ; Please see the actual settings later in the document for more details as to why
    ; we recommend these changes in PHP's behavior.

    ; By default, PHP is set to take action on all errors, notices and warnings EXCEPT

    ; Note: The php.ini-development file has this setting as E_ALL. This
    ; means it pretty much reports everything which is exactly what you want during
    ; development and early testing.
    ; Error Level Constants:
    ; E_ALL - All errors and warnings (includes E_STRICT as of PHP 5.4.0)
    ; E_ERROR - fatal run-time errors
    ; E_RECOVERABLE_ERROR - almost fatal run-time errors
    ; E_WARNING - run-time warnings (non-fatal errors)
    ; E_PARSE - compile-time parse errors
    ; E_NOTICE - run-time notices (these are warnings which often result
    ; from a bug in your code, but it's possible that it was
    ; intentional (e.g., using an uninitialized variable and
    ; relying on the fact it's automatically initialized to an
    ; empty string)
    ; E_STRICT - run-time notices, enable to have PHP suggest changes
    ; to your code which will ensure the best interoperability
    ; and forward compatibility of your code
    ; E_CORE_ERROR - fatal errors that occur during PHP's initial startup
    ; E_CORE_WARNING - warnings (non-fatal errors) that occur during PHP's
    ; initial startup
    ; E_COMPILE_ERROR - fatal compile-time errors
    ; E_COMPILE_WARNING - compile-time warnings (non-fatal errors)
    ; E_USER_ERROR - user-generated error message
    ; E_USER_WARNING - user-generated warning message
    ; E_USER_NOTICE - user-generated notice message
    ; E_DEPRECATED - warn about code that will not work in future versions
    ; of PHP
    ; E_USER_DEPRECATED - user-generated deprecation warnings
    ; Common Values:

  • [SOLVED] Problem with .htaccess and user dirs.

    Hi!..
    I write here because i have a problem with .htaccess files and url rewrites.
    I deployed a Cakephp[1] app in my /home/~asmerkin/public_html/books directory. This folder contains a .htaccess file with the following directives:
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^$ app/webroot/ [L]
    RewriteRule (.*) app/webroot/$1 [L]
    </IfModule>
    My server works well in user directories but it fails to rewrite urls. When i go to http://localhost/~asmerkin/books/ apache returns 404 error. If i go to apache log i find this:
    [Sat Sep 04 02:02:02 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /srv/http/home
    So the .htaccess is working but the url it rewrites is not correct. My httpd.conf file is this file[2]  and my httpd-userdir.conf is this one[3].
    So i'd like to know if somebody can help me with this issue. I tried everything without results.
    Thank you!

    Finally i had to edit my .htaccess file adding a RewriteBase rule to it.

  • How do I set up a .htaccess for my website?

    I have posted similar topics before, but now I am ready to set up a .htaccess...finally... Anyways I have Geocities Hosting, with no FTP. I have a subdirectory set up and a HTML file in there. I want to password protect that page with probably a few usernames and passwords. It will need to be secure. The web address will be something like http://xxx.xx.com/xxx/xx.html So if anyone could offer step-by step instructions on how I can get this page protected.
    Thanks, Internet Wiz™

    Thanks for the reply, but the first website you gave
    me, linked to a page with about 6 lines of text.
    doesn't appear problematic on safari or camino. strange.
    the Apache guide, is for setting up an Apache
    webserver.
    typically, when you say you want to setup .htaccess, it is for apache. thus, the reason for the apache link.
    I don't know if Geocities runs on Apache
    and I don't have Access permissions to change any of
    their confg and things. What I really need is
    directions on how to password protect my webpage that
    is on a Geocities server.
    10-4. you typically don't need to change anything in their config if they do run apache. assuming they are (which they may not be) you just put the .htaccess file that you create in the directory you want to protect and place the passwd file somewhere outside of the web-accessible area (e.g. outside the web 'root' for your account).
    that being said, another google gives some info. on geocities:

  • I could use some help with my html5 and my video

    Hello all.
    I've been reading up and working on my video issue for days.  I feel like I'm very close.  ANY help would be huge.
    I've got two websites.  Both of which have videos which my clients wants to be about to see on his mac, his PC and his iPhone and iPad.  He's a multi-platform guy living in a multi-platform world.
    The first website, has two videos on it.
    http://www.ftworthfoundation.com/index2.html
    It is very close to working... I can view all videos locally on safari and firefox.
    However remotely I cannot see any videos with firefox.
    Remotely- I can see all videos with Safari and IE and 1 video on the homepage with my iPhone.  My first thought on this was that the video which wouldn't play was too large.  I read somewhere that the iPHone will not load anything over 20MB... the .m4v was 33MB so I cut it down to about a 3rd of the size and re uploaded it (at 6.6MB) but it will still not play on my iPhone
    here is my code for the videos.  The video is formatted in .ogg, .mp4, .m4v and .flv... all videos are uploaded to the root directory.
    <div id=Video1>
         <video controls width=448>
            <source src="excel_Construction_Commercial.ogg" type="video/ogg" />
            <source src="excel_Construction_Commercial2.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
                <source src="excel_Construction_Commercial.m4v" type="video/m4v" />
            <embed src="excel_construction_commercial.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="448" height="249" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreeen="true"></embed>
        </video>
        </div>
          <div id="VideoPlayer">
            <video controls width="448">
                <source src="Foundation_Repair.ogg" type="video/ogg" />
    <source src="Foundation_Repair.mp4" type="video/mp4" />

    If anyone can help me on this I can probably tackle the 2nd website solo.
    Thanks guys.

    Hi David.

    I'm thinking I have a MIME type issue as I read this article online.
    Here is a link
    http://diveintohtml5.org/video.html
    It's a great website for anyone looking to understand how to create and export video to html5.
    Anyway here is the section of article I'm interested in.
    What’s the proper MIME type? You’ve already seen it; it’s part of the value of the type attribute on a <source> element. But setting thetype attribute in your HTML markup is not sufficient. You also need to ensure that your web server includes the proper MIME type in the Content-Type HTTP header.
    If you’re using the Apache web server or some derivative of Apache, you can use an AddType directive in your site-wide httpd.confor in an .htaccess file in the directory where you store your video files. (If you use some other web server, consult your server’s documentation on how to set the Content-Type HTTP header for specific file types.)
    Can anyone tell me how to change my MIME type? I can see my .htaccess.html file and I tried adding in
    AddType video/ogg .ogv
    AddType video/mp4 .mp4
    AddType video/webm .webm
    But the server will not let me upload the new .htaccess file.  So I cannot change it.
    I'm using GoDaddy and have complete admin rights rights as far as I can tell.
    Again.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Configuring Web Services in 10.9 Help

    Hi All,
    I cannot find any comprehensive documentation on the subject (short of a retelling of the server.app Help Files) but I'm just trying to set up a web server in 10.9. I have the server app installed. I'm using a separate DNS Server (that will also be my OD Master).  Right now all this is in a couple of VMs on a Mac Pro, isolated from my live network until I get the kinks worked out.  One vm (login.domain.com) for OD and DNS (split with our ISP for outside access) another (www.domain.com) for web services. I'm using the host machine as a web client to test things out.  The web host and my client both point to the DNS server and everything can ping everything else. Once I get it working in a test environment, I'll worry about bring it it out into the world and involving my gateway, ISP, etc.
    The website is working ok where it is on an ubuntu server, so I know there are no major issues there. But I'd like to move it (long story).
    In server.app, I named the webserver "machine" www.domain.com.  I pointed a record on the DNS Server to it and can ping it using the fqdn.  For the main site, I moved the default files (which look to be aliases) into a hidden folder and dropped by web site files into the directory (/library/server/web/data/sites/default).  The site does load. But it loads VERY slowly (it takes about 20-30 seconds for the initial page to load, once it's up, navigating between pages is fine as far as speed). Except, some of the navigation buttons don't work and from what it looks like, the PHP isn't rendering the page properly (links are not correct) so I'm led to believe there's something old/screwy in whatever version of PHP this thing has.
    Why would the site be so slow to load?
    How do I see what version PHP server 10.9 uses? Is it possible to upgrade if it's an older one?
    Do I need to do anything other than add a site in the server.app for the subdomain (staff.domain.com, help.domain.com, etc)? Any special settings/forwarding to make this work?  As long as the DNS points the fqdn to the box, the web server should send the right site/subdomain to the client, shouldn't it?
    Again, if someone could point be to the library of documents for managing this, I'd be grateful.  Apple's site seems to have a lot about wikis and so forth, and info on setting up the simplest of sites, but I don't care about those, I want a couple of websites with php and mysql, subdomains, etc.  It was all hosted in 10.5 (or 10.6) a while back, so unless they broke something on purpose, I know it can do it.  I head hurts from getting some info about httpd.conf from one blog, .htaccess from  another, etc. There MUST be a "setting up a Web Server in 10.9" or "Mavericks Server Administration" doc or something out there.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Yes, the functionality has departed System Preferences. Here is an updated guide to jump start your solution. It deals with the Terminal solution below.
    There are two approaches to launching a web server in Mavericks.
    Terminalsudo apachectl {start|stop|restart}

  • Error 500 with .htaccess and +FollowSymlinks

    Hi, I'm doing a website for a community of gamers and I have one .htaccess on the root folder of the website that cointains parameters to allow using friendly urls. The content of the .htacces is this:
    RewriteEngine On
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteBase /~doodom/doomhispano/
    Rewriterule ^administracion/$ ?administracion
    Rewriterule ^articulos.html$ ?articulos
    Rewriterule ^descargas.html$ ?descargas
    Rewriterule ^foro/$ ?foro
    Rewriterule ^foro/(.*)/(.*)/(.*)/(.*).html$ ?foro&cat=$1&sub=$2&thr=$3&title=$4
    Rewriterule ^foro/(.*)/(.*)/$ ?foro&cat=$1&sub=$2
    Rewriterule ^foro/(.*)/$ ?foro&cat=$1
    Rewriterule ^juegos.html$ ?juegos
    Rewriterule ^logout.html$ logout.php
    Rewriterule ^noticias/$ ./ [R]
    Rewriterule ^noticias/(.*)/(.*).html$ ?noticias&id=$1&title=$2
    Rewriterule ^noticias/archivo(.*).html$ ?offset=$1
    Rewriterule ^perfil/$ ./ [R]
    Rewriterule ^perfil/(.*).html$ ?perfil=$1
    Rewriterule ^preferencias.html$ ?preferencias
    Rewriterule ^registro.html$ ?registro
    The problem is that Apache delivers an Error 500 and I don't know why. It always happen when I have uncommented this line:
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    If I comment it the website loads correctly, but the friendly urls don't work at all.
    I also paste the content of my /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.

    Why does this happen? Any ideas?

    Uhm... what's an /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf?
    If I had that error, I'd look into /etc/apache/sites* and see if for the site changing follow-symlinks and everything is allowed.
    Then again, that's not an arch server, so you might be better of ignoring me (if your... stuff... is all that different. Me did my server strange chaos admin method like )
    Edit: wah, now I've been confusing myself, that huge config file is a mess in my eyes - are you sure you're supposed to change stuff in there? What folder is your htaccess in? Most I saw look about like that in there...:
    <Directory "??????">
        Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
        AllowOverride none
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
    </Directory>
    Which isn't a thaaat good for using .htaccess.

    I know this thread has been treated a lot of times but I have a question about the server wich I have to upload the files on
    the server is on Institutional facilities where I have no access, no info from webmaster, even to the server specifications, only the login and password to upload files. Do you know a simple way to kknow which kind of server soft is running from a server? I mean Apache or whatever
    I ask this because I have the UTF-8 issue, you know, the server is forcin t the browsers to see a ISO Latin 1 codification. Issue which I want to change. One way is trying the webmaster to let us select the text codificationto UTF freely… question which I made two weeks ago with no answer.
    so, I want to try to change the UTF by myself. I know I have to change the charset in a .htacces file but there are many ways to do that, which one I have to use?
    "AddDefaultCharset UTF-8"
    "AddCharset UTF-8 .html"
    "AddDefaultCharset Off"
    Also, the server is organised in four different folders to uplaod files: library (from my library school), teachers (a private teacher access, so IU need to use another .htacces insdie it, do I?) parents asociation (for families) and the school administration (which is freely access)
    where to put the .htaccess?
    Also in the server there's an invisible folder called .usermin (which I'm able to see throuth cyberduck) with two folders (mysql, and file), in this last one there's a file called config, inside it there are three lines:
    iconsize=0
    nocharset=0
    hidedotfiles=0
    Could I change any of them to affect the text codification issue?
    I hope the mac mocunity could help me, at the present I'm very worried becuse I have no help from the server admin and all the pressing is on me to finish the web creation and to solve the text codification issues.
    thanks a lot in advance

    Sometimes you can find this out by putting the url of a page already on the server into this site:
    http://web-sniffer.net/

    I have to change the charset in a .htacces file but

    "AddCharset UTF-8 .html"

    You may need to try one after the other. Also it is possible that your server admin will not allow you to do it. Or if the server is Windows IIS I don't know if this technique works.
    Also, the server is organised in four different
    folders to uplaod files: library (from my library
    school), teachers (a private teacher access, so IU

    parents asociation (for families) and the school
    administration (which is freely access)
    where to put the .htaccess?
    You should try putting it in whatever folder you will be putting your site.
    Also in the server there's an invisible folder called
    .usermin (which I'm able to see throuth cyberduck)
    with two folders (mysql, and file), in this last one

    iconsize=0
    nocharset=0

    codification issue?
    Can't help with that one.
    I have no help from
    the server admin and all the pressing is on me to
    finish the web creation and to solve the text
    codification issues.
    If no other solution, you can open all your .html pages after publishing (but before uploading) with TextEdit set to UTF-8, and then do Save As but setting the encoding to ISO-Latin-1.
    You might want to provide your url so that we can make sure you really have the problem you think you have.

  • Help in Setting Password Protection to a Page in DW MX2004

    I need to add password protection to a page.  How do I do this in DW MX2004?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Dreawmweaver newbie.

    Depends on the following:
    What kind of server are you on - Linux or Windows?
    How secure do you need this to be?
    How many pages do you want to protect?
    How many unique usernames  & passwords do you need?
    If your requirements are simple, start by contacting your host.  They may provide  an Admin Panel from which you could set up a password protected folder.
    Or do a Google search for .htaccess and .htpasswd.

  • Master / details pages set in a .htaccess protected directory

    Hi
    I am using Dreamweaver CS4 functionality to create a Master/Details page set. I have done this many times before without a problem, however, i am now trying to create the master / detail page set in the members area of a web site. The directory that contains both the master and the details page is .htaccess protected which means that the master page works fine but the details do not get passed to the details page. The details page remains blank where the echo statements should be. If i copy  the exact same master and detail pages and then paste them in to an unprotected directory the pages work fine and the details are passed from the master to the details page without a problem.
    I have been unable to find any information on this so any help would be gratefully received.

Thoughts??

  • ILife 08 iWeb 08  - Podcast Not Working  HELP!

    I may not have explained myself in my last post, so I'll try again. o.k. Who has had a problem with the new 08 stuff? I am not a computer genius and do my podcast in garageband, share it with iWeb, and publish with .mac. I am not good at code and have gone this route becasue it was being done for me. Since changing to 08, my podcast stopped working. I spoke to the "Genius" at the Apple store and he helped my change my website by removing the "iWeb" from the forwarded address. Now my website works. However, he had no clue on how to change this in iTunes. How can I get iWeb 08 and iTunes to work together to play my podcasts again? Any help would be apppreciated. My URL from the iTunes store is: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=264963988

    Godaddy installed the
    m4a MIME type on my hosting acount
    Very useful info that some servers need this to be done! It would be nice to know exactly how they did it, but I suspect it was an addition to the .htaccess file along the lines of
    AddType audio/x-m4a m4a
    AddType audio/x-m4b m4b
    If you can see the .htaccess or .config file in your space I would be interested to know if it says something like this.

  • Help with html of mobile web built in MUSE

    I have created a website in Adobe Muse, and added a mobile version of the website within Muse. I exported to HTML. I am using Yahoo as my server and when I upload the html files, now when I view the website on my phone, nothing shows up or I get the 404 Error. This did not happen before I tried adding a mobile version. The desktop works fine, it is just the mobile that is not. Do you know how I can go about fixing this? The website is www.trilliumsalonoshkosh.com.
    I know I saw an answer to a similar problem where it was that the provider had a server side detection script called .htaccess that blocked it. Do you know how I can get access to "delete" that? Or get around it? Or is it something I would have to contact Yahoo about??

    If you are sure that you have correctly uploaded all the files to your server and the folder structure is correct, it is definitely an issue with permissions on the Phone directory that Yahoo! may be able to help you with. Your redirect script is working fine in that it detects the device and redirects the request to the /phone/ directory, but is just not able to access it - possibly a permissions issue.

  • .htaccess doesn't work on Snow Leopard

    Hi, I was googling a lot and found a lot of solutions but nothing seems to work. I've already changed AllowOverride to All in Apache2/users/username.conf file but .htaccess doesn't work.
    This is a sample of my .htaccess file:
    +RewriteEngine on+
    +RewriteRule index\.html index.php+
    When I open up index.html in my browser, this page shows up:
    Forbidden
    +You don't have permission to access /Users/username/Sites/rsbudoucnost/index.php on this server.+
    Any of you have experienced this? I've never configured .htaccess file before. I think it might be a configuration issue in httpd.conf but I really don't know how to edit it. Thanks for any helpful answers.

    I don't know how familiar you are with Apache and related tasks, but this does appear to be following a path I've observed before. You've plumbed together various Apache pieces, and something within that chain is clearly not quite right. Been down that path myself, and on many occasions.
    When presented with these cases and these sorts of errors, I prefer to take a chain saw to the thicket, and to simplify the problem. Start with one thing. Get that to work. Add the next piece. Verify. Rinse. Lather. Repeat.
    Here? Confirm that the index.html access works, sans any rewrite. Then verify that a php file itself works via the usual phpinfo() file. If that works, then try a rewrite in the main directory. Then try the files in the subdirectory. Then the rewrite in the subdirectory. And I'm assuming that's an actual subdirectory and not a link, too. When you hit something that triggers an error, then back up and figure out why. Could be, for instance, directory protections or a rewrite error. (I've committed my share of rewrite error creation over the years, too.)
    Tedious? Sure. That's debugging. And when larger sequences go wrong, split the problem into smaller and more manageable hunks, and verify. Trust. But verify.
