Hwd -e does not list connected USB devices

USB devices for audio in/out not recognized in hwd -e.
Desired USB Items appear in KDE INFO CENTER: SOUND.
KDE MIXER alternate...USB Mixer... shows OUTPUT  PCM icon but no INPUT device  is shown (thus, no device is connected).
System has udev installed but uncertain whether root permission is provided for the USB devices...namely...USB MIXER and SND-USB.
Spent many hours in stupid search for ...audio group....and ...optical group...
when the reference name for the "group" is...audio devices... and ....optical devices...  This is a common problem in searching out posts..improper nomenclature references.
A listing for ...mixer...is provided but none for ...usb mixer...
Can I assume that all entries in the udev permissions file permit immediate use by root?  Do they have to be edited to function?  The indications are that root owns them all and doesn't need permission.
Sure would like to get USB audio running!!!
Are there special requirements for the USB devices?

Additional info:
Tried playing a CD track copied onto the desktop in XMMS.  The display shows it responding in XMMS.  There is no audio from the external USB sound device.
The mixer in KDe is set to USB Audio mixer (PCM).  An output ICON appears but there is no INPUT icon( No source connected).

  • MBP Does Not Recognize External USB Devices

MBP does not "see" external USB devices (such as Garmin Nuvi GPS) or any thumb drive. No external USB devices show up in Finder nor does Disk Utility see them. No cable issues. Have tried restarting several times, but to no avail. This MBP used to recognize these USB devices, but no longer do so.
I have seen this question posed several times in forum, but no suitable answer. Don't know if it is H/W or S/W problem.

    Hi Terry Temple
Is there at least any power going to the USB ports? ( as in if for example you plug in a USB light, will it switch on? )
If there is power in the USB ports it might be a software problem.
Try resetting the SMC see link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
also try re-set the PRAM see link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
However if you do not have any power at all it probably is a hardware problem.
    Is it still under warranty?
    Regards,
    Andrew

  • LabVIEW 2013 13.01f2 64 bit appears not to release USB device

As I attempt to migrate  to 64 bit version I have a problem where it appears (for a lack of a better word) LabVIEW does not release the USB device properly when I programatically turn the power off for the USB device I am using (a spectrometer).  This software works fine on the 32 bit version.  The ONLY way I can get my device to work is by exiting either the EXE or the LabVIEW development system.  Upon "wakeup" that is powering up the device, the DLL calls partially work, don't report errors but the device will not function properly.  This a bit of a gray area since the company who wrote the DLL does not support the LabVIEW part very well and their example code works, but they don't power cycle the device.
Wish there was some sort of purge or release function.  I have looked at the Know issues and I also put in a service request with NI.
If I don't get a fix for this I will have to abandon the sleep mode code.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Was there a compelling reason to migrate to LV 64-bit?  Were you feeling constrained by the 4GB memory limit?  That would be one reason I would switch.  (The other is if the equipment I was controlling only had 64-bit dlls). LV 64-bit has only limited support compared to LV 32-bit.

  • IPad does not appear in iTunes Devices list

My MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad are all on the same network, however my iPad frequently does not appear in iTunes Devices when not physically connected by USB.  No problem with my iPhone.  Anyone else with this problem?  Any solution?  (Yes, all OS/iTunes softwares are current.)
Further detail, to temporarily fix this issue, I physically connect my iPad via USB to sync it.  Temporarily the iPad will be seen in the device list allowing sycing to occur while remotely charging, but at some random time later my iPad is no longer found by iTunes - again without the physical USB link.  So, yes there is a work around, but it is annoying to be so up and down with this feature.
    Any ideas are appreciated.

  • I want to transfer a movie I have downloaded from itunes to my new IPAD. I have been on the itunes help menu, it tells me to look under 'devices' tab for IPAD. BUT there is no 'devices' tab and it does not list my new IPAD. Help!

I want to transfer a movie I have bought in itunes to my new IPAD. I have been trying to work how to do this for 3 days now. I have accessed all the itunes help and forums and wiki online. They all tell me to go to the DEVICES tab on itunes and select IPAD then sync. YUP seem simple, BUT there is not DEVICES tab listed on my itunes and it does not list IPAD. Years ago I set up my IPOD no problem and that is listed, but not the new IPAD. Can anyone help? I would love to be able to actually watch films on my IPAD!! thanks

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
Has your iPad been synced to the computer before ? If not then you might find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • I have a macbookpro. when I connect any camera to the mac it does not show as a device. How do I load my pictures to either iPhoto or Aperture? It worked before but just stopped working. Any suggestions?

I have a macbookpro. I use Aperture and Iphoto. When I connect any camera to the Mac it does not open it as a device in Iphoto, Aperture or in Finder. It use to work but just stopped. Any sugestions?

Here is the full story. It may be long so please bear with me. I take a lot of pictures and movies. Since I have over 30,000 pictures I decided to place the Iphoto library on an external drive to save space on my internal drive since ot was getting very full. After I did that it worked fine for a while. Then one day I could not open the Iphoto library. Since I was overseas at the time I brought it to the IStudio ( not an Istore) overseas. They said to rebuild the library and they would do that for me. It took all day since I had so many pictures. When they called me and told me it was ready, I went to pick it up. They started to show me the new library. It crashed again. Not knowing how to fix this at the ISudio, they installed Aperture and imported the Iphoto library. This worked fine for a short time. When back in the states, it crashed again just like Iphoto. I took it to the IStore. They did not know why the overseas Istudio did what they did what they did  and rebuilt my aperture library. Again it worked fine. Now that I am overseas again. It crashed again. However, I concluded that the reason for these crashes is becuase I have the file on an external drive that derives its power from the Mac and not by itself. When I use it and stop for a while the MAC will go to sleep and this cuases the external drive to shut down. This then causes the library to have inconsistancies. Therefore, when it happened this time I tried to repair the library and after 36 hours it would close down Aperture. Therefore I decided to rebuild the library. That did not work either. So I tried opening the Aperture library with Iphoto. That seemed like it was going to work but after importing half of the 30,000 plus pictures. I photo shut down. I then made a new aperture libary and erged the old library with it. This worked. I now have an aperture library that works. However, when I plug my camera into the MAC nothing happens. The camera does not show up in devices in either Aperture, I photo nor in Finder. The USB port and cord I use works fine becuase I can read my external hard drives fine. I checked as SIG suggested in this thread and everything is set to open aperture when the camera is connected.
I have the newest OS version 10. 7. 2 and the computer frequently updates all my programs. I have not installed any ne software lately. The problem happens both if I am on battery or plugged in. Just before I came overseas the IStore replaced the Battery.   I can go back to the IStudio  here overseas but the last time I was there and told them about the problem ( I did not have my computer with me) they did not impress me with their wisdom. I will be back in that city in a month and can go there if need be.  Thanks for all the help so far. God bless.

    Hello
My Ups eaton ellipse pro 1200 is in the list of USB device in systems informations but the option ASI is not available ?
There is no icone in the menu
    Is anyone know this probleme?

I don't know if this helps too much, but an Airport update was released last night that fixes something that has to do with connecting to a printer wirelessly (WPS??)
did you try option clicking on the printer under Printing prefs and reset printing system?  otherwise, I guess, go with what mooblie has said to do. don't worry about the usb cable thing. That's only if you are connecting the printer directly to your mac. because you are connecting wirelessly, then that doesn't really apply.  If you were to tell us the model number and make of your printer, we could help you a bit more.
resetting the router (maybe a little hole on it), rebooting your mac, then your printer
and letting it get the IP address might help??
sorry, I can't do much more

  • Kindle does not show up as device when plugged in USB

I was trying to transfer some files to my Kindle using the USB port. I have a Kindle 2, and a Rocketfish Micro USB cord. The Kindle does charge up so it is drawing power through the cord. But the Kindle does not show up as a device attached to my MacBook. My external HD (Firewire) and iPods (USB) all work perfectly through this USB hub.
I did call Apple (using my 30 day warranty for installing Snow Leopard) and the tech support person did not even know what a Kindle was.
Amazon says it's an Apple problem.
Apple doesn't seem to have any clue.
I've seen from various threads that USB devices do seem to have intermittent problems. Is the Kindle one such device?

Some devices do not work properly through a hub. Plug the kindle directly into your Mac and see if it works. Just because some devices work through a hub, doesn't mean all devices work through a hub. Apple does not support third party devices or third party hubs.
