Hyperion Smart View Refresh gives Error

Hi
I have installed Smart View version 11.1.2 in my Client's computer having 64 bit Operating System.
Whenever he opens the excel file and click first refresh all the cells having HsGetValue formula shows "Error"
It gives the same Error in every cell even after disconnecting and connecting again.
Please help.

So 11.1.1.3 smart view is not compatible for 11.1.1.3 HFM version for 64 bit OS.

Anyhow, if the "connection panel is blank", is because after installation you must recreate the connection by selecting a url connection using the following sintax:
http://yourservername/hfmofficeprovider/hfmofficeprovider.aspx , the selecting the appropriate HFM Cluster and database, plus user id and password to create the new connection.

Language Setting for - Hyperion Smart View for Office

Hi,
Here's a scenario I need to find an answer to.
1. We have Essbase system 9 installed on a machine named: USESSSRVR and here the ESSLANG environment variable is set to "English_UnitedStates.US-ASCII@Binary".
2. We build two Unicode cubes, one for Korea Sales called APPKR.SALESCUB & other for Turkey Sales called APPTR.SALESCUB
3. Korean users are sitting in Korea & Turkey users are in Turkey & both these users need to see data in their local languages.
4. Since Essbase Excel Add-In is not compatible with Unicode cubes, we have asked them to use "Hyperion Smart View for Office".
Now question is,
-> Where in this entire system do I need to do Language Settings so that they see their characters correctly?
-> Is there a place in Smart View where you can set languages?
-> Also we have a limitation that we need to have both the applications APPKR & APPTR on the same Essbase server which is in US.

It's actually because you are installing over an old version. Uninstall SV, review the registry entries and directories and then reinstall with admin priv.
Of course when I looked it up on support the Oracle ID 1466433.1 suggests that the .net install is corrupt so was i going mad? Not beyond reasonable doubt since I put in an SR a while back about it so I have proof that it is listed as an " "internal bug #14149839 : "SMART VIEW EXTENSION ACTIVATOR OBJECT (-2147467262) This is reported for excel 2010" has been raised with development team. As per the update from the bug this issue has been addressed in patch 11.1.2.2.310 which is yet to be released."
So if you are on an earlier version of Office possibly is because of the .net install (which I think needs v3.5, at least for Office2003), but I would try do a clean install first.

Hyperion Smart View

We are working on the BI Strategy for our Planning and Allocations. The business users download templates online or offline in excel, and upload bulk data, for e.g, mulitple records for a set of fixed columns. Can Smart view handle this kind of upload? I know Hyperion Smart view allows for offline planning with hyperion Planning and allows sync back to server. But I am not sure if it allows bulk upload. any useful response is much appreciated. Thanks..

When you say bulk upload do you mean you have say 20 tabs in Excel and wish to send all 20 -- assuming this is what you mean you will need to employ some VB scripting.
You could use either the Analytic Services (Essbase) Excel Add-in or SmartView for your uploads. SmartView is probably the better long term solution.
I would suggest using Smartview against Provider Services/Analytic Services - Creation of template or allowing user to create their own templates using SmartView against Essbase

Hyperion Smart View error

When i connect to essbase cube through smart view,when i click on refresh, i am getting an error says "Internal error occured".
please suggest what could be the issue,
for smartview query designer to work, do i have to install essbase client also?

You don't need to install the essbase client to use Query Designer in Smart View.

Smart view refresh versus Excel Retrieve

Good morning
we are currently converting our users from the old Excel essbase add-in to the new Smartview. We are having issues with some of our users when converting. Some of them were creating retrieves in their excel tabs, HIGHLIGHTING a section, doing their retrieves. This allowed them to keep any non essbase verbage they had on their spreadsheet (so they would not get the retrieve error messages). It appears with Smartview, that you cannot do this as highlighting a section now tells it you want to log into multiple cubes. Can anyone verify for me that highlighting and retrieving in smartview is no longer allowed?

Prashanth, I think I definitely missed the part where it shows highlight and retrieving (I could see the multi grid, however that is not what highlight and retrieve is)
Consider this scenario
I've an excel sheet which goes from A1:D13 (that is my used range)
Are you saying that I can highlight a1:d6 and perform a retrieve and Smart View will only pull a1:d6? (which is not the case in 11.1.2.2.310, it refreshes full sheet)

Smart View internal metadata error when creating SmartView reports

Hi all,
I have a really strange problem when trying to use HsGetValue -functions in Smart View (in Excel 2010).
The thing is that I can create a lot of formulas for a sheet that have links to other sheets. However, in some pont (I don't exactly when it happens), I quite randomly get an error in Excel saying "This workbook contains Smart View internal metadata that needs to be repaired. This will automatically be repaired but may take some time". This error box appears a few times, I just click it and then it disappears. Obviously, this is annoying and the Excel is unusable.
Usually it happens when I try to format the sheet or add, e.g., company logo into the sheet, or try to do a bit more difficult linking of the cells.
Any ideas what is going on here? Smart View version is 11.1.2.1.103 (Build 100).

Symptoms
The following message is displayed when opening the Smart View files:
This workbook contains Smart View internal metadata that needs to be repaired. This will automatically be repaired but may take some time.
It may take a long time to open or save the Smart View templates.
Changes
Smart View has been installed by a user different, than the one that is currently logged on the workstation, i.e. service account or installation account.
Cause
When the user accesses Smart View for the first time, on a workstation where the SmartView has been installed by another user, the following registry key will be missing in the user's profile:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
"UseStorageCompression"=hex:01
"SelectedOptionTab"=hex:02
If SmartView is installed by a different user i.e. service account or installation account, then the user profile registry will be missing "UseStorageCompression" and "SelectedOptionTab", resulting in a incorrect saving of file metadata.
Solution
Follow the steps below to automatically create the required registry keys for the current user profile:
1.Open Excel and select Smart View menu.
2.Click the "Options" icon to open the Options window.
3.In the "Advanced" tab, under the "Compatibility" section make sure the "Reduce Excel File Size" option is selected and click OK.
4.The following Windows Registry keys will be created under user profile, enabling proper compression of the metadata:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
"UseStorageCompression"=hex:01
"SelectedOptionTab"=hex:025.Now the user should be able to open the smartview template without the error message.
6.Additionally it is also recommended to select the "Improve Metadata Storage" option in the Smart View Options window which will create the following registry key:

Hyperion Smart View Fusion Failed to create Smart View Extension Activator

Receving error with Office 2007, SP2 XP with SP3.
We have done a few installs and there seems to be a problem here and there which i was able to resolve but not this one?
exact error is upon launch of Excel , word 2007.

Each time when I start Excel, msg box appear "Error, Failed to create Smart View Extension Activator object. Verify that it is registered properly.
Please install the following update from Microsoft Corp.
"MS Office 2003 update (office2003-KB907417-FullFile-ENU.exe)"
After installing this suggested update Smart-view causes Excel crash every time it is opened.

Hyperion Smart View meta read problem

I created a template for users in smart view.I was testing with some native users.
the template which i created was with all the dimension and I Descendants dimensions.
some users are having write back functionality.
i used Meta Read filters for some users who will be only having access to a particular dimension and member.
At first i created a template with all the dimension and descendants and did save the report and I logged in with native users in to the same template.When i click on member selection I am able to see the applied filter( Meta Read) is working properly.But by default when i login with the same user at first i am getting an message saying that for some members you are are not having permission upto there i am fine.
My question is
Is there a better work around.So that when the user logs in smart view the template which provided he should only see the members for which he is having permission and the rest of members for which he is not having permission should disappear.

Smart View Refresh All and Hidden Tabs

When one of my users does a Refresh All in Excel all of his hidden tabs become unhidden. Is there a setting in Smart View that can stop this from happening?

If this is the case I would say we have a bug. Can you log an SR with all the details and steps to reproduce.

Hyperion Smart View Error in Word and Power point

When I retrieve (Import) a report (FR) into MSpowerpoint or MS word I am getting an error message "The specified file wasn't found". Has any one faced this error before?

How to use substitution variables in Microsoft Word using Hyperion Smart view

Can we use Substitution Variables in copy data points and refresh in Microsoft Word? I tried it and it does not work dynamically (copy data points only copies what was in excel cell at that point). It only copies the static value of that variable from that cell. I want to use it dynamically in Word so that if I change the value of that variable in Essbase, it is updated in Word upon refresh. Any idea??
We need this feature for reporting in microsoft word and keep using the data points every year (instead of copying the cells from excel over again)

you can't use substitution variables with copy data points. I had tried a while ago (post 111.1.2.1.102) and it wouldn't work. I checked with Oracle development and they said it I not available

Smart View Member List Error

I am receiving the following error message when I try to click on the Member Selection icon:
'Selected member list cannot be empty'
Can someone please tell me what's causing this error, and how I can fix it?

Thanks for your answer.
As it turns out, the reason this error occurred is because of the Windows screen configuration. Instead of the Member Selection screen showing up in the active Excel tab, the screen was appearing 'in limbo', and therefore wasn't visible. As a result, the error kept appearing when the Member Selection icon was clicked on repeatedly.

Hyperion Smart View - Suppress zero & #missing

Hi,
I just noticed today that Suppress zero & #missing rows doesn't work in hyperion smartview when planning forms are opened in it.
Is it necessary to check the suppress #missing rows in Hyperion planning while building the forms ?
Is it not possible that I have all the rows in Hyperion planning form and suppress #missing and zero rows in smartview form whenevr I like to?

You will probably have to set the suppressions on the forms design side, suppress on the smartview side is more for adhoc analysis.

Hyperion smart view 11.1.2.1 issue

Hi,
I am working on smartview 11.1.2.1. In Formatting option I have checked "Use Excel Formatting". After that when I was trying to open any planning data form in smartview, I saw that the option has been unchecked.
Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue?

did you try saved options by clicking on arrow near OK button and selected "save as default" or sth like this ?
i don't remember exactly how this option is named
