Hyperlinks in Numbers Tables

How do I remove a hyperlink from a cell in a table when using Numbers? For example, if I enter an email address in a list, the program automatically enters it as a hyperlink. This is normally okay for me as a default, but what if, in a particular instance, I want to remove the hyperlink and have the data as ordinary text? I have tried to select it and then go to the Format\Remove Link, but I simply activate the link when I click to select the cell. Thanks in advance for a reply.

Menu > Edit > Substitutions > Smart Links (turn them off to stop automatic conversion as you type).

Make the column wider to give some room to the right of the link. Click to the right of the cell to select it without activating the link. Select the text in the cell before Format > Remove Link.

Not sure why Copy Paste Values would work on my machine and not yours.

Ivan, Yes that helped.
What I did not know is that links may NOT appear in tables.
"Only text within a text box or shape can be made into a hyperlink, not text within a table cell."
I created a link inside a text box, and then positioned the text box over a cell.
But when I deleted the row above that cell, the text box did not shift up to maintain a position over the cell.
So it seems text boxes cannot be "anchored" onto a table.
I guess there is no workaround for this is there?

Callto:// hyperlink in Numbers (and Excel)

I have a spreadsheet table that includes phone numbers.
I would like to create an extra column with hyperlinks that when clicking on them will automatically use my prefered VOIP application.
Issue 1:
When I use the callto:// hyperlink in Numbers '09 (2009 when was that again) it doesnt do anything. After that I can't create any hyperlink at all anymore (even after closing and restarting numbers) what is the prober way to get to do this?
1a. In Excel 2011 it automatically adds file:// in front of the callto:// which of course does not work
Any suggestions on how to add other then http://, file:// or mailto:// hyperlinks in excel 2011
Issue 2:
when typing callto:// directly in the browser, to goes to Skype. How to change the default program used for the callto:// statement?

Hyperlinks are limited to http and mailto. Excel has the additional ability to link to files. You will not be able to create callto hyperlinks.
Your question about how to select your default callto app might not get answered here in the Numbers forum. You might want to ask that in a different forum that has a wider audience. Or maybe an Internet search on callto to see what parameters can be specified.

How can I take data from multiple pages documents and put them into a numbers table?

I produce invoices in pages, with dates, invoice numbers, references and amounts due. I want to take all this data from multiple documents and transfeer it to a single numbers table. Is this possible and if so, how do I do it. I know I can do it the other way round with mail merge but I can't figure out how to do it this way round?

Apparently the import wasn't a good one.
The best option at this point might be to start a new table. Insert a new Table, Copy the old table cell range, select the first cell in the new table and Edit > Paste and Match Style. This will throw out all the old formatting. A bit of work, but a nice clean start.

Is it possible to select a subset of rows from a Numbers table?

I know I can use the COUNTIF, SUMIF, AVERAGEIF functions to operate on a subset of rows in a Numbers table based on a condition. What I would like is to be able to use other functions, for example the MAX and MIN functions.
For example, give a table like this:

What I want could be expressed as =MAX( SELECTIF(A1:A10, "=Fred", B1:B10) )
Where the SELECTIF function would return a range containing B1,B3, B6 and B9 that could be operated on by the MAX function.

There is no single function to do what you want. Here is a way you can achive your goal:
This is a down-and -dirty solution because I am not sure how you want to use the informtion (so I kept it all in one table):

Is there an equivalent to the "Past-Special" command found in MS Word/Excel? I want to link a Numbers table into a Pages document and have the Pages document automatically change when the Numbers table is changed.

Hi, I think there might be some misleading information about this.
You can highlight a table in Numbers, copy, then paste it into your Pages document. It moves and resizes like an image, and you can directly edit any cell in the table. You can add rows, columns, etc the way you can if you create a table through Pages. The functions all remain the same and change automatically as you change the information.
While you may not be able to link so that changes in one program affect the other, I find I don't need it to change in both very often. If it ever does become an issue, I just copy/paste whichever is "complete" into the other and continue.

Moving Numbers Tables to Pages '08

Hi guys,
I've used Numbers to create some tables that were larger than 8.5x11. To fit them on a single sheet, I used the Content Scale slider. Works like a charm.
Now, when I go to copy one of these tables to put it in Pages, I get the original, full-size version of the table when I paste it. Needless to say, that does not work at all - the tables are all out of whack and spread across multiple pages.
How do you copy a Numbers table to Pages if the Numbers table is scaled down below 100%? I want the table to look exactly the same in Pages as it does in Numbers. And yes, I've already sent Apple feedback to let them know that this is a problem.
But while I wait for Numbers/Pages '09, does anyone have a workaround that doesn't involve PDFs?

Thanks for the reply, but the problem is not empty rows and columns. When I created the tables I used 14 point Myriad Pro. The table (which is an income statement) is too large to fit on a single page at that font size. I did not worry about it, however, because I planned to just scale it down to make it fit.
The real problem is that when you copy a table from Numbers, you get the table as it appears in the "Normal" view, NOT as it appears in the "Page Layout" view. Hence, when you paste it, the table is no longer scaled down like it was in Numbers' Page Layout view. That's infuriating - it's like setting your font to Helvetica and having it come out of your printer in Courier New! It makes the entire content scaling feature in Numbers useless if you plan to use your spreadsheets outside of that app.
What's really frustrating is that so much of Numbers is utterly great! It has so many features that are just fantastic and make my life easy. But for each of those features, there's a basic, fundamental item like copying scaled-down tables to Pages or double-line cell borders that is missing. And the real shame is that none of it will be fixed before Numbers '09.

Embedded/linked numbers tables in pages?

Can I copy and paste numbers tables into pages documents, but embed them like Word, so when I update the table in numbers, it updates in the pages document? Cant find any instructions or tips!!

If you had iWork 09 before upgrading the apps should still be in applications/iwork 09 folder.

Getting Rid of Hyperlinks in a Table

Hi all,
Does anyone know how to get rid of hyperlinks inside a table? Normally I would select the offending link and then deselect the "Enable as a hyperlink" checkbox in the inspector panel. However, it seems that when doing this inside a table, it seems to instantly forget I've turned it off.
Basically, I select the link, turn off the check box, the link vanishes (good). However, as soon as I leave that cell in the table the link re-activates.
Whilst I don't mind the hyperlink being there, what I do mind is that in being a hyperlink the font colour and style change from what I want.
Does anyone have a solution?

How irritating is that! Obviously a bug and worth submitting feedback to Apple on. I've noticed that if my cursor is not positioned immediately after the hyperlink before navigating to another cell then the link remains switched off. This means that you have to include some spaces or words after or before your link and just move the cursor to them before clicking or pressing tab.

Your question is not very descriptive of what you are trying to do. You might get better assistance if you provided a bit more information. I think even I, as an AppleScript novice, could write an AppleScript that would "extract entries from a Numbers table" and write them to a Pages document but I'm sure you have more in mind than that simple action.

Yield signs must be different in Texas. Here (and in much of the rest of the world) they're white with a red border, and installed with an apex pointing down:

Maybe you're thinking of the "Warning triangle", which is similar, but installed base down, and often including a symbol in the white space:
These are more common in Europe, with the exception of the portable version, which I've seen used at road construction sites or as 'flares' to warn of a disabled vehicle on the road.
Or maybe you were thinking of this
(Most of these 'slow moving vehicle' triangles have an orange center. This one looked a bit more 'Texas,' though.)
