I am experiencing very slow import and backing up issues.

I am experiencing very slow import and backing up catalog on exiting Lightroom. This is a very recent issue. I use RAW files.

The type of files you are importing will have an effect on the speed of the import process. Larger files, like raw sensor files, are normally much larger than JPG files.
But if this is something new, the slowness, and you are using the same camera with the same size files as previously then it's not just the file size.
What type of computer and what operating system are you using.

Brochure template I created myself is responding terribly to editing and manipulation.  I'm thinking it could have been a problem with the amount of layers I added on PS elements 12, but I compressed the file and I'm still was having this extremely slow response.  I went through the re-installation process and troubleshooting with updates and whatnot but they proved to be unsuccessful.

  • Aperture 3.1.3 Very slow importing raw files

Aperture 3.1.3 Very slow importing raw files please help
Pro Photographer. I have a Mac Pro Quad core 1 yr old with 12GB Ram. I import via 2 Firewire 800 card readers - A Lexar & a UDMR Reader.Only using them singly. System has 4 1TB hard drives 1. Applications, 2. Aperture Library, 3. Aperture Vault, 4 Time Machine
On a photo shoot, first CF card may download and complete in less than a minute but the next card with a similar number of images may take 10 minutes.
Sometimes if I swap card readers, this can speed up download but then everything slowly grinds to a halt.
I have closed down all other programmes, switched off Faces and Enable Gestures - switched off  Look up places.
Situation driving me nuts as we shoot and view images with customers immediately after the session and download time effecting the amount of time we have to do this. Nothing seems logical as such a high spec machine should theoretically fly through this.

Have you upgraded your OS ans all your Apps to the latest Versions and also rebooted the system?
Turn on the Activity Viewer (Windows ->Show Activity) while importing, to see how Aperture is spending its time.
Also launch some tools from the Application -> Utilities folder:
launch the Console window, to check for diagnostics /error messages
launch the Activity Viewer, to see how much RAM and CPU time Aperture and other processes are using.
How much space is free on your system drive? And on the drive you are importing to?
If you find in the Activity Viewer, that Aperture is slow, but de facto using not much CPU time, then the problem may be a corrupted Aperture Library or corrupted preference files.
Try to import into a new, empty Aperture library and see if the problem persists.
If you have no problems with a new Library, try the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Start with repairing permissions and repairing the library.
If none of the measures outlined there, or you need further help, please report back.

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • Very slow broadband and connection keeps dropping

Hello, we have been BT customers since August 2013, after previously being Freeola customers for many years.  We live in a very rural area, at the end of the exchange so we are never going to get amazingly fast broadband, we are estimated 1MB.
Previously using Speedtest.net at the beginning of the year we were getting 0.9Mbps, then in May our internet dropped and we couldn't get a proper connection or speed.  We contacted Freeola who after doing some tests, said that we had a copper line failure and to contact BT.  We did this and the copper line failure issue was fixed, an openreach engineer tested the line and we assumed all was fine.  But we were still getting very slow speeds and the connection kept dropping.  So we decided to switch to BT in August, we have put up with the slow speeds and dropping connection for 3 months hoping in vain that once we got a stable line the speed would increase and we would be back to were we expected to be.
When we are using the internet, we very often get "Your connection has been reset" errors within our browsers.
This has not happened, so I have decided to come on to this forum in the hope that we can solve this issue before my hair gets any greyer.  We have a BT Home Hub 4 so we have not got all the stats that previous HH had available.
Also as we are in a rural area our telephone connection is through overhead cables and as said previously we are at the end of the exchange.
Please see below for the information that I have been able to get:
    Home hub stats:
    17:28:52, 28 Oct. ( 68.040000) DSL noise margin: 12.00 dB upstream, 9.50 dB downstream

As said previously before the copper line failure we were regularly getting download speeds of 0.9mbps.

    Hi jacoma,
Sorry to hear that your  having issues with your BT Retail services.
You will either be on the ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) service or if your exchange has been BTw 21cn upgraded you maybe on the ADSL2/2+ (upto 12/20mbps) service depending on your line quality and length.
However these upto speeds may not be the speeds you will get as ADSL broadband connections are very dependent on the distance from your property to the exchange and the quality of your line. The further away you are from your local exchange the slower your broadband speed will be.
To enable the community to help you please see the advice below:
Please see Keith's help guide here: Helping forum members to help you, it will go through some checks that are needed for us to help you.
    1) Are you in the TEST socket? if not can you please connect to the test socket and repeat steps 2, 3 and 4.
All the below performed in TEST Socket:
    2) is there any noise on your line. dial 17070 option2 ,called quite line test, from landline phone. should be silent but slight hum normal on cordless phone.
If there is any noise on your line such as crackling, distictive noise when the phone is connected to the TEST socket and doing the quiet line test then you need to report a line fault to BT Retail by dailling 151. Once the crackling or disticive noise has gone then your broadband should slowly recover.
    3) please post adsl line statistics
    4) Can you please run a BT speed test (including IP Profile) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (not beta version)[Best done with a wired, Ethernet, connection] After Quick Test is done you need to click "Further Diagnostics" to get IP Profile.
    ADSL Line Statistic Help:
If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...
     Then:
     1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
     2) click Settings
     3) Click Advanced Settings
     4) Click Broadband
     5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)
The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 1.3)
or http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9118 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 94.1.11)
You will need to copy and past all the adsl line statistics ( Including HEC, CRC and FEC errors). You may need to click " More Details"
If you have a HomeHub 4 then the majority of the ADSL Stats shown in the previous Hubs will not be there.
for HH4 users you can go to hub manager then select troubleshooting then logs and are look for 2 entries together which will show theconnection speed and noise margin for when your HH4 last sycned with the exchange.
There are more useful links on Keith's website here: If you have an ADSL connection, please select this link

What is wrong with the app store and how long before its fixed, im downloading atna very slow pash and i have a 10mb uncontested line.

Sorry, its on both my iphone 4s (2 iphones) and ipad2 that the app store is slow, I have done all the above and still when i download a 1 mb app it take about a half a hour just to download and previously it wasn't even a second. When browsing the web the devices are fast and internet speed is good, but when going in to app store it takes long to load and show me the new app, updates, featured app ect. We watch movie online and the streaming is brilliant. Even on my windows pc the app store is slow and sometimes says that i store could not be opened, i have also tried on my buddies wifi and there it does exactly the same which makes me think that its on apples side, but why do you not have any problems?

  • Experiencing very slow start up on iPad 2 since iOS6 upgrade

Hello,  I wanted to see in the forum if others have experienced very slow (relative to prior state) boot times since upgrading their iPad 2 to iOS6.  My iPad now boots in about the same amount of time as my five year old Toshiba Satellite A-300 laptop (approx. 11/2 to 2 minutes).  What a shame too since the point (for me at least) in using a tablette is to have faster access to my computer/internet than using a PC.  What's next?  The battery will drain in four hours???  Forbid it ever happen!  Please Apple, make the iOS6.0.1 lighter or at least start up faster.  Also, Are iPad 3 users experiencing the same slow boot?
    Thanks for any feedback!

Yes, exactly the same problem... 1.5 min startup with a 32 gb iPad 2

What makes you so sure it isn't software?
The camera can be focused by take the point of focus on the touch screen.
If it is new as you said, it should be under warranty. Make a Genius Bar appointment or contact Apple with a repair request.

  • Very very slow import using LOG and Transfer

I am using a CANON VIXAIA HF10.and the clips are importing very very slow. The max time on each clip is only 5 min or so. Is there a way to speed this up? Thanks.

Log and transfer only supports AVCHD. It does not support AVCHD Lite, nor will it work with Motion JPEG media. You could use third party software to convert it, or iMovie and then export a QuickTime movie from there in the correct codec and format.

  • Very slow import on a Mac

Copying images to a new location, importing images from a CF card, and generating previews directly into Lightroom is painfully slow-90 minutes or more for an 8 gig card. However, manually copying the images to my hard-drive and then importing and rendering previews cuts the time to approximately five minutes.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? (At a workshop this past weekend, every mac user had the same problem.) Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
I suppose that I can just manually copy and import the images but that defeats the purpose of having the auto import feature.
    Brian

The only workaround that I know of for the PC is to use Nikon Camera Control Pro. This should let you shoot tethered while working in Lightroom. You can also set up a watch folder in Lightroom so as Camera Control Pro transfers images to the watch folder they will be automatically imported into Lightroom. (Not sure if Lightroom will import new images in the watch folder while importing images from a memory card. Doubt it.) Camera Control Pro is also available for the Mac.
If you are a Mac user, there is a very nice donation-ware alternative to Camera Control Pro called Sofortbild at http://www.sofortbildapp.com/. There may be an alternative for the PC but I don't know about it if there is.

  • Very Slow Broadband and Poor Customer Service

    Hi,
Since April we have been having issues with our broadband line dropping the connection and terribly slow speed (around 0.4Mbs). We have had 3 engineer visits changing the master socket, home hub, filter and even work done out in the road. Each one has supposedly 'fixed' the problem, only for it to return to the very slow speeds within a week or so.
Our fourth engineer visit was booked for this morning, and the engineer failed to arrive. I received a phone call to say BT needed to re-arrange the appointment as the reason the engineer hadn't arrived was because BT had decided that it needed to be a 'multi services' engineer not a 'external' engineer.
I didn't even get an apology when I pointed out that I'd taken half a day off work to wait for the engineer when I could have been notified that the visit had been cancelled. Unfortunately we got cut off before I could re arrange the appointment so I called back, only to be told by the next person that in fact the reason the engineer hadn't attended was because of a BT OpenReach outage. After re-arranging the engineer visit I've now been sent 2 confirmation texts one to say they will be coming on Friday, one to say they will be coming on Monday. Hence another 10 minutes of my day calling to confirm when they would actually be attending.
I have also been incorrectly charged the £129.99 Engineer Home Improvement Charge as a result of the 2nd engineer visit due to an ‘admin error’. This was refunded to my account following 3 phone calls (one to ask why the money had been credited to my BT bill when I'd specifically asked for it to be returned to my bank account) but it caused me to go overdrawn in the process incurring bank charges.
I have raised 2 complaints, but no-one has contacted me concerning them (now 2 weeks and counting). When I finally lost it and called to cancel the contract I was told that as I was still in my minimum term I would have to pay £208 for the pleasure. My counter argument that for a total 3 months BT have not been providing the service we’re paying for seemed to fall on deaf ears.
I don't run a business, but I'm pretty sure this is not how to do it...
If anyone has any help/advice it would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

  • VERY slow initial full back up using Time Machine.

I had a problem with my Time Capsule and had to erase the drive.  Now it's running the initial full back up - but, in 21 hours and 48 minutes it's only done 93.11 GB of the total 241.05 GB. Is this very slow progress normal?  I'm sure it didn't take this long when I first ran the initial back up when the Time Capsule was new.

    daveff wrote:
I am having the same problem, i have a 2 tb WD Element USB HDD. I have had my imac for 2.5years but has now slowed right down.
Doesn't sound like the same problem.  You seem to have a problem with your Mac, not necessarily backing-up.
I decided to use time machine to back everything up.  I formated the WD to the same as my mac and ran time machine but has only completed 9.81gb out of 485.68gb and not moved for 6 hours.
Cancel the backup  (if it won't cancel after several minutes, see #D6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting).
Then verify your internal HD, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
If that reports that it "seems to be ok," you may have a hardware problem.  Try running this: Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test.  Run the Extended tests (that may take an hour or so, depending on how much RAM you have).  Write down any error code(s) it shows.
Apart from doing a back when i first purchased the imac.
You haven't done a backup in 2 1/2 years?  Eeek!

  • Very slow copy and rm speeds

I've seen other postings about slow copy processes upon upgrading to Snow Leopard. However, none of the replies seem to address the situations I am experiencing. First, copy times between my MacBook Pro (2 Ghz, 2GB, 100GBHD, 15" - the first MBP introduced), and external USB2 Lacie HD have become very slow (1 hour for 4-6 files totalling ~4GB). Curiously, sometimes the same size transfer occurs in 3-4 minutes.  I recently upgraded to SL from Tiger, and the Tiger times were in the 3-4 minute envelop. The external HD is a 1TB Poulton Lacie, with over half the disc free.  My MBP HD has about 20GB free, and only the Finder, mail, occaisionally xcode, and occaisionally a browser, (either Safari or Firefox) are running during the transfer.  The same sometimes occurs with only the Finder and the activity monitor running. The USB is connected directly to the MBP. So, in summary, the ext HD is directly connected, half empty, there is room on the internal HD, and the memory is not particularly burdened with other processes.  The activity monitor slows less than half the CPU capability being used.
Secondly,  another problem occurs using the unix secure erase, rm -Pr.  It is very slow since upgrading to SL from Tiger. The finder's secure erase is too slow to use.
Any thoughts about why on either?  Right now, I'm wishing that I stayed with Tiger.  Thanks.

I suggest looking at your logs in Console.app to see if anything unusual is happening during the long file copies.
The SMART status isn't that useful. If it says the drive is dead, the drive it dead. If it says the drive is "verified", the drive could still be dead. A good indicator of this is if file copies take an hour instead of 3 minutes.
Is this the original hard drive in that machine? If so, I'm surprised it has made it this long. Notebook hard drives typically start failing at three years of age. You might not notice it until you do a major reoriganization of your files' organization on the disk - such as installing a new operating system.
I compared Finder's secure erase with rm and they seem more or less equivalent.
I think your internal hard drive is just failing. That's all.
