I am going to college this fall and can't decide which MacBook pro to buy the 13in or the 15in. Mainly to type, browse the web, watch videos, and maybe some light gaming. I am worried that the 15in might be too big to carry around all the time. And worried about the 13in being too small and hurting my eyes over time. Once I do get one, I am most likely going to use it for the full 4 years. Please Help !

Which Macbook Pro to buy as a college student?
There are 3 different Macbook Pro's out there that I can buy with the rebate / reduced price / free iPod Touch. The problem is I don't know which one to buy. Many people said that the difference between a 2.4 and 2.5 core 2 duo cpu is only 5%. Then there is a bit of difference from 256mb to 512mb of the 8600m graphics card.
Basically I will outline what I will be needing from a laptop so you guys can help me make the right decision. But for now before I say what the outline is, you bought your Macbook Pro; did you choose the right one? If you didn't and you could go back in time, which one would you have bought?
Anyways, obviously the laptop is for college work. So Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Photoshop and such. But of course there will be some gaming here and there. I am a Blizzard fanatic and I only play Blizzard games. From diablo 2, starcraft and now Warcraft 3 is pretty much all I play. I am not even going to try WoW as it could probably ruin my college carreer.
But the game I'm really anticipating is Starcraft 2. Which Macbook Pro would be able to handle that game in your opinion?
But I hope these information is good enough so you guys will know which one I should buy. But if you guys have any other questions on what I will be using the MBP for then let me know so I can help you help me pick the right decision.
Thanks!If you're going to use your new laptop for college use/gaming/general use, my recommendation is going for the $1799 MacBook Pro 2.4GHz. I recommend this one over the others for a few reasons. As mentioned previously, the 0.1GHz in processor speed in essentially unnoticeable. With regard to RAM, its always best to have your system maxed out in order to achieve its full capacity. However, I do recommend going through www.otherworldcomputing.com or a 3rd party RAM merchant to purchase your additional RAM. You can get it for a drastically reduced price there, and then have an AASP install it for you. Bear in mind that installing RAM yourself could void your warranty. My point about the RAM is, the 2GB standard in the $1799 MBP version is sufficient. Also, the graphics card. 256MB should be sufficient to support your gaming, and unless you plan on getting a large display, it shouldn't be necessary to double the VRAM. So, based on the information you provided, the lower-end model should be plenty enough for your needs. Hope this helps.

Well, if your MacBook Pro is new, it already has Mavericks installed and there is nothing to update.
Go to the Menu Bar, and click the Apple logo. Then click "About This Mac." Does it show OS X 10.9 or 10.9.1?

Photo editing and occasional video stuff - which Macbook Pro for me?
Hi guys! I'm seriously considering buying a Macbook Pro to replace my current desktop PC. My intuition is telling me to get 16GB of RAM and to not settle for a two core processor. This, however, isn't too easy on the wallet.
I do photo editing quite regularly, working with raw files that have 20-ish megapixels. This includes simple adjustments in Lightroom, and more advanced editing in Photoshop. Sometimes I also do simple video editing, working with 1080p material, typically shot with a DSLR.
I'm not looking for a serious pro machine - simply something that wouldn't be too frustrating in this kind of work. In photography I consider myself to be a serious hobbyist, and the video work is somewhere between amateur, prosumer and consumer level stuff.
What kind of tips and suggestions can you give me? Looking forward to hearing your ideas!Thanks. I've been thinking that I'd use my current 24" monitor with the macbook as well. Maybe a bigger screen on the laptop itself would be nice on the road - but I don't consider that a necessity.

So I bought a 17-inch MacBook Pro from my brother in August of 2009. He bought it in March of 2008. Definitely contact AT&T about an International roaming plan. It's still very expensive to call when overseas, but it's cheaper than what you'll pay without the plan. Disable cellular data. Though leaving data roaming off should, in theory, prevent you from racking up charges for data roaming, there are enough anecdotal reports of people coming home to multi-thousand-dollar data roaming bills that I'd just shut it off entirely.
Actually, I'd put the phone in airplane mode and just buy a disposable cell phone in Italy. It's going to be far more cost effective, or at least much easier to manage the cost, than using your AT&T plan.
If you elect to use the iPhone, tell your friends and family NOT to call you unless it's an emergency. Also advise them not to text you unless it's an emergency until you return. -

You can use your backup copy of your computer to copy everything.
For the itunes portion, you can type "move itunes library" into the google search bar.
Windows should have a way to copy all doc/pics/files/contacts/calendars/etc. -
I'm not sure how to sync contacts and iCal between my older Macbook Pro and my new iMac. I've searched on Google for a few explanations, but they seem fairly complicated. Are there any easy ways to make this happen?
Is this a one time sync or do you want to keep them synced all the time?
If it's a one time sync you want to use Setup Assistant to migrate your data from the old machine to the new one. You can use the Lion Setup Assistant tips for help.
If you want to always keep them synced you have several alternatives. First is you can wait for iCloud which will be released this Fall according to Apple. You can find information about iCloud at www.apple.com/icloud. Several years ago I began using a tool called Synctogether which syncs Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts, Widgets, Dock Items, Mail Accounts and Mail Signatures. You just check what you want synced, for example I do Bookmarks, Calendars and Contacts. This app sells for about $49 I think, however if I were you I'd wait for iCloud which will give you 5GB (which is a LOT) for free. -
The page load progress bar that was on the lower right of the window is no longer there. After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it. The tab has a circular progress wheel but this is useless for determining a stuck or slow loading page.
