I am having trouble with Safari preferences

I have tried to change the settings for Safari to open to a homepage, but it continues to open to the previous site visited. Any suggestions?

Uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" in System Preferences > General.

    Greetings Blueleoapple,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with Safari. You may want to consider resetting your device, which is different from restarting. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • I am having trouble with safari and most apps shutting down when I'm in the middle of stuff what do I need to do to resolve this?

I am havering trouble with safari and apps shutting down on me all the time what can I do to resolve this problem. Thanks :-)

Make sure you have enough free space on your iPad. With iOS 7 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free.  For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.
Also try a reset. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Also Having trouble with Safari

I have redownloaded Pantha twice, hoping to redown load Safari but it doesn't work...this is the message I get...Safari cannot open a browser window and may be missing important resources. Try installing Safari again. This started when I did the software update this week. Can I delete the whole program of Safari and then just download Safari and still retrieve my bookmarks and other info without downloading the whole of Pantha.???
I have never had trouble with anything in over 2 years.

Do other devices successfully connect to the network?
Does the iPod successfully connect to other networks?
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Anyone having trouble with Safari 3.1.1 "quitting unexpectedly"?

Since downloading this software update, I have experienced the following: 1) Safari "quitting unexpectedly"; (never did before) 2) inability to properly navigate online ordering websites, and employ "live chat" for information, and an even greater slowness upon booting the Leopard MacBook Pro. (Like it wasn't slow enough already!) These incidences have occurred on the Tiger on my desk as well as MacBook Pro. Anyone having similar issues, and thanks for your time.

I have experienced several instances of Safari 3.1 "quitting unexpectedly" - but it was always AFTER I had already told it to quit. Maybe 4 or 5 times in the past few months. I sent Apple bug reports on 2 or 3 of them. I have not seen the error since updating to 3.1.1, but with less than a day in use, it's too soon to tell.
I've not noticed any of the other symptoms you mentioned.

  • Is anyone else having trouble with Safari history on iPad?

I have 6 iPads that I use around my house mainly for home automation - things like Lutron, Savant, DirecTV.  Somehow, two of these iPads are picking up internet browsing data from other iPads on my network.  When I go to enter a URL in Safari, they want to autopoplulate URLs from sites visited on another iPad.  I have turned off iCloud, I have cleared cookies and browsing data, I have turned on Private browsing, I have reset the iPad ... I have tried everything - I cannot get these iPads to completely clear out this history.  So I took one of the two iPads that were having this issue and completely erased it and reset it.  That solved the problem, but then I had to rebuild it with apps, music, etc.
Does anyone have any idea why/how this data gets stubbornly stored in Safari on iPad?

    Why does it matter?

  • I am having trouble with Safari. It keeps crashing after about two seconds in and wont then let me send the report to apple

I wonder if it is something to do with gmail. as gmail has been asking to store emails on my local drive and I have been saying no as I was worried it might be a virus or something - maybe I have too many emails on the system. I just dont know. I am using Firefox in the meantime but feel frustrated as I dont know my way around as well and I have work to get on with!

IVE DONE IT - THANKS SO MUCH SIG. I googled empty cache safari and worked it out it was easy once you told me how thanks very much. By the way what do you think I should do about the gmail requests to store emails on my laptop?

  • A tip for Panther users having trouble with Safari!

I have found it! I have found a browser that works with all websites I've used in the last couple of days. The browser works on my iBook G4 with OS X Panther and on my 9-year-old iMac G3 (bought the year they came out with colors other than Bondi Blue -- I own lime) that I upgraded from OS 9 to OS X Panther about five years ago.
Problem: Neither computer is able to use a Safari version that is newer than 1.3.2 due to OS and hardware compatibility issues. That STUNK because Safari was becoming more and more incompatible with many of my most frequented websites.

Several people suggested various things to me, but the best suggestion came from Yahoo! (My husband couldn't access his Yahoo! email account on my iMac and Yahoo! gave him suggestions to try.)
    Here is the SOLUTION: SeaMonkey!
I'm using the only version of SeaMonkey the website offers for Macs, which is, I think, 1.12 or something like that. (I'm on my husband's PC right now so I can't check.) It's made by Mozilla who also makes Firefox, so you can have that groovy personal toolbar at the top that keeps links to your favorite "Favorites" right up at the top of the screen. (I love that toolbar on my husband's PC, which runs Firefox.)
Browsers I had tried but that didn't work perfectly with all sites:
    Opera (8.54 and 9.6)
    iCab
Firefox (I couldn't even get it to open after I downloaded it!)
IE (Always avoid this browser if you can help it.)
I hope this is helpful to you

I use Camino on our few remaining Panther machines and its overall feel is much more like Safari, but opens sites that defy Safari. It's also a Mozilla product and much "leaner" than some of the other Mozilla browsers, another factor that makes it nice for older Macs.
    Camino is here:
    http://caminobrowser.org/
and still runs on OS 10.3.9. Firefox ran on Panther until they hit version 3; that's why it didn't work for you.

  • I'm having trouble with Safari 2.0.4 and QuickTime 7.2

    Hi,
This is only a Safari issue because QuickTime 7.2 works both in FireFox and even the old Netscape.
In Safari I only get the sound with a blank screen for QuickTime videos. How do I fix this problem?

A problem I had around this was resolved by uninstalling Flash at http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
    then reinstalling it http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
A previous thread suggested this or if that fails trying HD>Library>Internet Plugins and removing Quicktime Plugin.webplugin before restarting.

  • Anyone having trouble with Safari

The old version of Safari wirked wonderfully well until this #$%@& new 5.1 Lion version.  Sloooowww and it hangs all the time. I have logged onto eBay for example and it just sits there... I downloaded Firefox and it runs fine. What has happened to Safari. I'm finding several of the new wooptidoo Lion features to be a pain in the butt. I wish I had stayed with Snow Leopard.
    Anyone else with similar issues??

I did check all my plugins.. and all are in auto-update mode, but I did find good old pain in the butt Adobe Shockwave had an issue in Lion which Adobe nicely discuised as a security update. This appears to have resolved the issue. Running much quicker now. Thanks for the thought and direction to send me in. It helped.
