I am looking to read full length rss feeds to be read off-line on my ipad 2

I can subscribe to rss feeds in my mail on my mac, but I cannot seem to do the same on my Ipad 2 either via mobile me (I cannot forward rss feeds into my mobile me account) or various apps (byline, feedlerss,flipboard,google reader). Some send the feed, but I then have to be on line to see the full article. This contrasts with reading an rss feed on my mac via mail where i can see the entire feed and therefore can read it off-line.
Any thoughts anyone?

Maybe there is something wrong with your settings, because you can alter the default behavior... Have a look in the Byline settings, especially in the "Web pages" category. There you can choose for which feeds you want to cache the original web paged as well, when the feed content seems truncated.

  • How to Export Mail RSS feeds to another reader

    How do I go about exporting RSS feeds I have in Mail into another reader like NetNewsWire?
    Thanks.

    Hi Purple Cat,
    Have you considered using New New Wire as a bridge between google reader and apple mail?
    1) download NetNewsWire
    2) configure NetNewsWire as default RSS reader
    3) open NetNewsWire
    4) Enable Assentive Devices
    5) run terminal command to add RSS feed to NetNewsWire
    6) verified correct feed to add in NewNewsWire
    7) synced with google reader.
    1) NetNewsWire download, put in applications folder.
    2)open safari, go to safari menu, click preferences, when preferences open chose RSS. Set the pulldown menu default RSS reader to NetNewsWire
    3) open NetNewsWire, make sure it's open, with no dialog box being displayed.
    4) open system preferences, Click on Universal Access, check "enable access to assisted devices"
    4) Open terminal, paste in the fallowing command, then press return:
    IFS=$'\n';for i in $(find ~/Library/Mail/RSS/ -name "Info.plist");do open $(grep "<string>http://" $i | sed "s/.*\(http[^<]*\).*/\1/;s/http/feed/"); osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to keystroke return'; sleep 20; done; say done;
    NOTE: while this command runs do not click on any thing. it will take about 20 seconds between adding each RSS feed. if your speakers are on and your volume loud enough, you should hear the computer say 'done' after adding all the RSS feeds.
    5) in NetNewsWire verify all the RSS are good to go, remove any you do not wish to add to google reader.
    6) when your sure your ok to have the feed in NetNewsWire added to google reader:
    in netnewswire go to preferences, click on the syncing icon, put in your google user name and password, Click Merge Subscriptions button, Then check "sync with google reader.

    Do y have the Apple Podcast app?

  • When I try to read my rss-feed through yandex service, the browser and the whole system freeze for a significant amount of time. This started with Firefor 5 and is very unpleasant. Thank you in advance.

    When I try to download (and especially renew) a page with my rss-feed that I read with Yandex service, the browser freezes, and then the whole system freezes. It typically takes about 5-7 minutes to load a very minimalistic page, and I can't use my browser or my system during that time.
    This started with the release of Firefox 5. I use it on Ubuntu. I haven't experienced similar problems with any other websites.
    I have already contacted the Yandex team about the matter.
    I guess it's just a little weird that one of the Yandex services won't work in Firefox, as Firefox comes with a built-in yandex-bar in many cases. And it sure is frustrating.
    Thank you very much and I am looking forward to your reply.

  • Set a default RSS reader when clicking RSS button in Safari?

    When I'm in Safari and I click on the RSS button in a web page, it loads up my podcast app (Downcast) which does me no good.  I use Mr. Reader for my RSS reader (it's a Google Reader client) -- how do I get Safari to load that up instead?  And then presumably it would then create a new subscription feed in Mr. Reader for that RSS feed that I clicked on in Safari.

    I use Reeder. I thought I had this same problem with the last version of Safari but somehow I was able to turn it off (I want to see it first and choose to add it myself to my RSS reader).
    But since Mountain Lion, I haven't been able to turn it off.

  • Adding google reader RSS feeds to mail

    I have a gmail account for my email and RSS feeds which all syncs nicely with my phone (using google reader and email client)
    I also use "mail" on the imac which is set up with the gmail email account. i expected that because the RSS feeds in google reader are linked to the same gmail account that they would also sync onto "mail" but they don't. At the moment there are no RSS feeds.
    Is there anyway of syncing the google reader RSS feeds into "mail", so that if i read or add an RSS feed on the web it will also appear in "mail"
    Thanks in advance

    I have a manual way that will work. It will take a few steps but you can import in whole or in batches. If you have many feeds you may want to do in batches so as not to mix them up.
    This will work with Vienna. It may just work with other readers too.
    1) open Safari, and get to the bookmark manager (menu bar/bookmarks/show all bookmarks)
    2) create a temp folder we can use to import the feeds. (*1)
    3) open vienna & select a single feed or a range of feeds. (*2)
    4) drag & drop the feeds in to the temp folder in safari you created in step 2.
    5) open mail, got to (menu bar/file/add rss feed). Select the temp folder (*3)
    6) click the all the check boxes and click add and your feeds have been imported. (*4)
    If you had to do it manually this worked for me. Beats cut/paste links or manually typing. There is probably other ways to do it. Hope Apple patches this RSS feature soon. I dont want to wait for OSX 10.6 to see an improvement.
    Notes:
    *1 - Create a temp folder for each sub folder in your news reader. This will speed things up.
    *2 - Unfortunately it does not drag and drop the folders you physically have to select the range of feeds. If your selection does include the folder (eg. your selection strattled 2 folders it will still process your selection. In other words it ignores the folder and drags your selection.
    *3 - If you did create a temp folder for each folder group you had in your RSS feeder this is a step you would repeat at selecting the various temp folders. But read not 4 before you do.
    *4 - Yes you have to individually click each box. Another grip is that even though you highlighted a folder in Mail it will import the feeds to the RSS main folder. This means you have to select & drag/drop into the sub-folder.

  • RSS feeds in Web Dynpro

    Hi experts,
    I'm looking for a way to show RSS feeds inside a Web Dynpro Application. I didn't find any information that really helped me.
    Who can help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Edwin

    You don't have to use these classes from Sun that I used then, there are certainly other alternatives in the meantime, e.g.
    https://rome.dev.java.net/
    In essence, you have to create an action to read from the RSS feed, parse the retrieved XML file and fill a context structure from these data, and dynamically recreate the UI elements that display these RSS items.
    If you are on NW 7.0, you can probably use the RowRepeater UI element to display the RSS items stored in the context node.

  • RSS Feed Title and Description

    Can somebody show me how to show the description with this?

    Hmm, I may be a little late, but its here if anyone else needs it.
    ActionScript 3 Code:
    //startScript
    import flash.net.URLLoader;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import fl.managers.StyleManager;
    import flash.text.TextFormat;
    import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
    var logFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    logFormat.font = "Arial";
    logFormat.size = 10;
    logFormat.color = 0xFFFFFF;
    logFormat.bold = true;
    StyleManager.setStyle("textFormat", logFormat);
    //RSS Feed
    var rssLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var rssURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://yourFileHere.xml");
    rssLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, rssLoader1);
    rssLoader.load(rssURL);
    var rssXML:XML = new XML();
    rssXML.ignoreWhitespace = true;
    function rssLoader1(event:Event):void {
    rssXML = XML(rssLoader.data);
    trace(rssXML);
    for(var item:String in rssXML.channel.item) {
      "your list component name here".addItem( {label:rssXML.channel.item[item].title } );
    function selectLog(event:Event):void {
    "your description box here".text = rssXML.channel.item[ event.target.selectedIndex ].description;
    "your list component name here".addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, selectLog);
    //endScript
    Note: You can use a classic text "Dynamic Text" box, size it to how big you want the text to f. From there, get a UI Scrollbar from the components, put it somewhere, and go into its Properties. Go to where it says "Component Paramaters" and then "scrollTargetName". Set this to your textbox/description box name. And there you have it. A full working RSS Feed Title and Description file.
    Let me know if you run into any trouble!

  • RSS Feeds that worked prior to SP2, now do not work

    I am working with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise edition.  We have several wiki pages with RSS feeds that have been working well for a while.  Once we added the SP2 patch, the RSS feeds no longer work unless the page is checked out.
    Once checked out, you can set them up, see the feed and all is good, until the page is checked in again.
    I tried removing the RSS feed and recreating it and have the same issue, works fine until the page is checked in.
    Could someone help direct me to a solution?  I looked through many forums on RSS feed errors and haven't seen anything helpful.  Thanks!

    Hi staci,
    It was a known issue from 2013 February CU and it had been fixed in 2013 June CU, however you can also install 2013 August CU for your SharePoint 2010 per the following article, this issue disappers without any side affects, you

  • How to display a simple rss feed?

    Hi,
    I've build a simple application that has a httpservice called rss that calls "http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/GlobalBusiness.xml" and retrieves the rss feed. Under test operation I can see it returning the feed.
    When the init() function is called the httpservice is called and passed to a datagrid.
    However, when I run it I get the following fault.
    Security error accessing url
    Destination: DefaultHTTP
    In the console I get the following messeage:
    Warning: Domain www.nytimes.com does not specify a meta-policy.  Applying default meta-policy 'master-only'.  This configuration is deprecated.  See http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files to fix this problem.
    Error: Request for resource at http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/GlobalBusiness.xml by requestor from http://localhost:8888/Newsroom-debug/Newsroom.swf/[[DYNAMIC]]/4 is denied due to lack of policy file permissions.

    [Unload SWF] /Newsroom-debug/Newsroom.swf
    I have checked different posts online and in this forum describing crossdomain.xml and settings in the flash player global settings to resolve this issue, but I can for some reason not get it to work.
    I want to be able to take rss feeds from any site and display them in a simple datagrid?
    Any suggestions?
    Below is the application code.

            <mx:columns>
                <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Feed" dataField="headline" />
                <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="description" dataField="description"/>
            </mx:columns>
            </mx:DataGrid>
    </s:Application>

    OK.
    Tried out your suggestion and it works!
    Thanks saisri2k2
    1) I created an http service which calls a php file:
    <mx:HTTPService
                id="rssNewYorkTimes"
                url="php/newyorktimes.php"
                result="rssNewYorkTimes_resultHandler(event)"
                resultFormat="e4x" />
    2) The php file then gets the feed and passes it back to the rssNewYorkTimes_resultHandler:
    <?php
      $feed = 'http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/GlobalBusiness.xml';
      $rawfeed = @file_get_contents($feed);
      print $rawfeed;
    ?>
    3) the resulthandler then processes the feed and puts it in an arraycollection that can be passed to the datagrid:
    protected function rssNewYorkTimes_resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
                    var xmlList:XMLList = event.result.channel.item as XMLList;
                    for each(var item:XML in xmlList)
                        rssCollection.addItem({title: item.title, description:item.description, source:item.link});
                    buildRss();
    Thanks also to Chris Black for his post which explains in detail how this trick is done!

  • RSS feed, repeated password prompts

    I experience this issue on both Mac OS versions that I use: Mac OS 10.5.8 with Mail 3.6 and Mac OS 10.6.4 with Mail 4.3.
    I want to subscribe to an RSS feed for a blog. However, the blog and RSS feed are on a private, encrypted website. I can successfully add the RSS feed to the Mail program by...
    1) In the "File" menu, select "Add RSS feeds..."
    2) Paste the "feed://......" address.
    3) Click "Add".
    4) When prompted, enter my username/password as assigned by the website.
    The RSS feed successfully appears in Mail's sidebar and the contents load.
    However, later in the day it starts to fail. An exclamation mark (within a triangle) appears alongside the RSS feed. Clicking on the symbol results in the message below. I again enter the username/password, but later that same day, it will fail again, and again, and again.
    "To view this feed, you need to log in to area "Mac OS X Server Web Services" on wiki.chsj23.org:443.
    "Your login information will be sent securely.
    "Name: ___________
    "Password: __________
    "This password will be stored in your keychain.
    "{Cancel} {Log In}"
    Thoughts?

    I do not know if this is a permanent solution, but off-list I discovered something. If I access the associated website, I am of course prompted to log in. I now checked "Remember Me" via that login window, using Safari as my web browser. If I go back to "Mail", the RSS feed now works.

  • Rss Feed Dead

    Hi! For the past couple of days, in Mail 4.2, there is a little warning triangle next to the RSS Feed for Apple Hot News. The message I get is: "The RSS feed could not be updated because no associated URL was found. This feed will no longer receive new articles."
    I used the Update RSS Feeds command, but nothing changes. In Mail Preferences, under RSS Feeds, my Default Reader is Mail, and is set to check for updates every day and remove articles manually. The only download I've done recently is Safari 5.0 earlier in the week, though I use Firefox 3.6.3 as my browser.
    Any suggestions on how to clear this up?

    Go to File>Add RSS Feeds, check 'Specify URL for a Feed' and copy this URL in:

    > subscribe to RSS feed from an external website to have the data available in a list or library
    As a link or as a list of data from the feed?
    If as a link:
    An RSS feed is just an XML delivered via a URL. Add the Link to a Document content type to your library and then just link to the RSS feed using its URL.
    See here:
    http://techtrainingnotes.blogspot.com/2007/08/sharepoint-adding-hyperlinks-to-doc.html
    If as a displayed list of data:
    Just use the RSS web part, a third party web part or a SharePoint Designer Data View Web Part to connect to the data and display it as a list of items.
